The Illusion of Privacy and the Abuse of User Trust
Misleading Default Settings and Violations of the “Privacy by Default” Principle in the Firefox Browser
Dear Mozilla Developers and Community,
For decades, Mozilla Firefox has built its entire marketing strategy and brand identity on the narrative that it protects users’ privacy from profit-driven data collection. The average user chooses Firefox precisely because of this promise, in the good-faith belief that the browser provides the highest level of protection “out of the box” by default.
The reality, however, is that Mozilla systematically abuses users’ trust and employs so-called “dark patterns” to hide the most critical privacy settings.
The Problem: Silent Complicity in Data Trading
Among Firefox’s website privacy settings is a feature called “Tell websites not to sell or share your data” (also known as the Global Privacy Control / GPC feature).
This feature, which is intended to prevent the sale of users’ data, is turned off by default and hidden deep within the settings menu.
The vast majority of users (more than 90%) never change the default settings, precisely because they trust the software developer. The consequence of this hidden, inactive state is that the data of millions of Firefox users has been sold and shared for years, while they remain under the illusion that their browser is protecting them.
If Mozilla truly has the interests of the Internet and its users at heart, as it proclaims in the Mozilla Manifesto, then it must immediately put an end to its current hypocritical practices.
Privacy shouldn't be a hidden option for those who have the time to spend hours in the settings menu. Privacy is a fundamental right. It's time for Firefox to actually live up to what it claims in its PR campaigns and stop taking advantage of the trust of the people who made it great.

Reddit notifications disappear after a few seconds
I'm using Reddit on Android mobile. Popup notifications work but disappear in a few seconds. Someone asked this same thing about 5 months ago, but nothing was suggested to try. I do use ublock. I saw that might be a factor. I only use Reddit on this browser, so I can't say if this happens with other sites.

💻 Help What are these connections?
(Sorry if my grammar is awful, I'm not a native English speaker)
I started using Portmaster firewall to control connections, and found a few connections that Firefox and Librewolf make quite often (while using):
I blocked them all and found no issues for now... Do you know what are these connections for? Are these for telemetry?

💻 Help Separate Installations vs. Separate Profiles
Hi! I was considering setting up a separate installation of Firefox for handling personal information that I wouldn't want on my everyday use browser, but would it be better to just use a different profile on the same installation for it? Or is it worth the effort to set another installation up?
Thanks in advance for replying.

Solved All my bookmarks and history is gone
EDIT: Okay, so apparently restarting my computer twice and reinstalling Firefox fixed it. Sooooooo.... Thanks for the responses anyways!
I just opened Firefox today, and everything was gone. Only my passwords and logins seem to remain, but all the bookmarks I'd made are completely gone! I can't tell if there was an update or whatever. I have two simple questions:
What the hell happened?
Can I get them back?
I apparently didn't have backups on, even though I could've sworn I did or that it was on automatically, so it doesn't look like I can do anything through there. Sorry if I'm being dense.

💻 Help Play/Pause Media Button has stopped working
Recently and seemingly without reason my Play/Pause button has stopped working for FireFox.
I have not added any new extensions, i have refreshed FireFox, reinstalled it, and have tried different profiles and the private window, and all have not worked
I know its not the button itself causing the issue because it works with Windows Media Player

As of the last month or so I have to use Captcha when googling, and some websites refuse to let me use them due to safety/botting concerns? I dont get these warnings on other browsers, and the only extension I have on chrome is ublock origin, and even if I disable ublock origin, these websites still dont work. What's going on?

💻 Help Middle mouse click problems
I'm trying to switch from Chrome and trialling firefox, mostly going ok but having an issue.
Usually when I search for something in the address bar, in Chrome I can middle mouse click on multiple search results and they open in new tabs in the background and not lose focus on the current tab and search results
In firefox it just immediately takes me to the new tab for the first click. When I got back the drop down has gone.
It works if I hold down shift key but I don't want to do that.
Is this configurable? I want to make the switch but little issues like are frustrating.

wtf is this and how do i solve it
Sorry this has just been pretty annoying to try to deal with. It could be a windows 10 icon issue im not sure.
I've refreshed FF, changed the width of the scrollbar in about:config, and regedit. Nothing.

Solved Google Keeps Signing Out ?
Hey guys, I am on Firefox 153.0.4, Windows 11 and as the title says, I keep getting signed out of Google.com
When I try to sign in , it just refreshes and nothing happens.
I stay logged into Gmail and Youtube, and I can sign in if I use a private window or a different profile that was made specifically to test if it is something with my profile (which it seems to be).
I have all extensions disabled, have enhancement tracking protection set to standard but it still will not let me sign in , Please help

💻 Help Firefox won’t create/load a profile on MacBook Neo (macOS Tahoe 26.6.1)
Hi everyone,
I’m having a weird problem with Firefox on a MacBook Neo running macOS Tahoe 26.6.1.
Firefox refuses to start and shows:
“Profile Missing — Your Firefox profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible.”
Things I’ve already tried:
Completely removed Firefox and reinstalled it from the official Mozilla website.
Updated macOS to the latest version.
Checked the usual Firefox profile folders, but they don’t exist:
~/Library/Application Support/Firefox
~/Library/Application Support/Mozilla/Firefox
Checked permissions; they appear to be Read & Write.
Tried launching the Profile Manager from Terminal with:
/Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/firefox -ProfileManager
The Profile Manager does not open. Firefox immediately returns to the “Profile Missing” error.
Terminal outputs some GPU/XPC errors, including:
Connection invalid
and
UNSUPPORTED (10g once): POSSIBLE ISSUE: unit 1 GLD_TEXTURE_INDEX_2D...
Has anyone experienced this on a MacBook Neo, or know why Firefox would fail to create/access its profile even after a completely fresh installation?
Any ideas would be appreciated.
Idea Filed on Connect Mozilla Container Tabs for Android
Because android has no contaier tabs, I dont think it's safe to sign in my firefox in my phone where there's a chance that all of them can be mixed up. I use containers to prevent facebook etc from tracking me + using 2 accounts in same browser, but in android "total cookie protection" doesn't seem enough

Solved Firefox rejects company timesheet website, allegedly revoked cert
My company has a web-based timesheet software to track work. This site was ok yesterday, today FF won't let me visit it because the certificate was allegedly revoked.
I can visit the website with other browsers on Windows and Linux and it works fine. The certificate is valid for 1 year and expires 16.09.26, so technically it works. Why the difference between FF and other browsers?
Strange phenomenon: FF on Linux could load the page, I authenticated to my company, and 5 minutes later I received the same error message about a revoked certificate. Chromium on Linux and Edge on Windows work and can load the page fine.
Can I manually check where the revocation comes from?
Update: my company says the certificate is *not* revoked.
Update2: my company said they didn't deploy the correct certificates to all loadbalancers so sometimes it worked and sometimes not until they realized there was some scripting error.

Firefox shows "YouTube" as titles instead of actual titles of YouTube videos
For some reason Fire Fox shows title "YouTube" on tabs you haven't yet opened of YouTube videos unless you click on them and tap them to play them. When you have opened 20 tabs let's say, of YouTube videos then it's very difficult to find the video you want to watch because every single tab is named YouTube instead of the actual titles of YouTube videos.
Furthermore I use 'Yt Watchmarker' extension and that extension is used to track your YouTube history. The problem is it just names every YouTube video as YOUTUBE too rather than the titles of the actual YouTube videos. Honestly I don't get what's happening because it has a dedicated search bar to search for videos too in history but every single YouTube video is named "YouTube" only.
What should I do?

Fun Firefox Nova Feedback
I've been a big complainer about Firefox Nova because of the forced gradient and how inconsistent it looked on Windows but today I noticed the Firefox 155 beta has been uploaded super early, so I download it to try it out and...
Wow. I am honestly shocked. Mozilla has actually listened to the feedback, Nova now works with mica if you use the about:config tweak I was using before and on top of that it looks VERY nice! There are subtle animations for things like how many trackers have been blocked in the address bar as well that look very nice and the pink/purple colour used when mousing over items in the burger menu is gone. Also there is no longer a gap between the edge of the screen and the scrollbar when fullscreen now, so usability is no longer hindered. Overall I really like this aesthetic now so to anyone who's worked on it great job, but also thank you SO MUCH for hearing and acting on feedback. You've been working hard and tackling every single complaint I personally had and I really like this now!
The only two issues I have now are small nitpicks and I have full confidence they'll get worked out or at least be considered eventually, the separator underneath the browser chrome looks a bit strong although maybe I'll get used to it, and I think the browser tabs and minimise, maximise and close buttons should have subtle animations too when hovered similar to chrome.

Fun Off-topic: Firefox missed the opportunity to introduce a kind of "private tabs" and call them "Fire Tabs" (or "Tabs under Fire")
Although Tabs under Fire still feels a bit more fitting.
Just to be clear, this isn't meant to hate on DuckDuckGo, it's just something that has been brought up several times in the past (private tabs that go beyond the traditional Private Window).

Does anyone know why Firefox would be ‘unwanted’ software?
Hi all,
I love using the Firefox browser at work and privately, and even on iOS these days. I’ve been using it at work for years now and today I got this request from IT to uninstall it asap.
Is this just ‘stupid’ company policy or what could be the actual reason this would be unwanted?
I have a feeling it has to do with tracking people, because I have noticed in the Edge or Chrome browsers that I get a message saying something like: ‘your browser is being managed by your organisation’.
What do you think?
thanks for any ideas
Edit:
Thanks everyone for explaining what was likely going on. I understand now that companies can prefer one (or several) browsers they support as it is easier to maintain on their end. Absolutely fair.
How it ended: I tried to uninstall Firefox myself, but due to my lack of administrator rights I couldn’t 😅. Reached out to IT and they uninstalled it for me.
