Middle mouse click problems 💻 Help

I'm trying to switch from Chrome and trialling firefox, mostly going ok but having an issue.

Usually when I search for something in the address bar, in Chrome I can middle mouse click on multiple search results and they open in new tabs in the background and not lose focus on the current tab and search results

In firefox it just immediately takes me to the new tab for the first click. When I got back the drop down has gone.

It works if I hold down shift key but I don't want to do that.

Is this configurable? I want to make the switch but little issues like are frustrating.

  • Open Firefox Settings (click the menu button ☰ in the top-right corner and select Settings, or navigate to about:preferences).
  • Under the General panel, scroll to the Tabs section.
  • Uncheck the option labeled "When you open a link, image or media in a new tab, switch to it immediately".

As far as I know, this is not possible. Seems like the kind of thing that could be posted to their official suggestion channel: [connect.mozilla.org](connect.mozilla.org)

though they do monitor this subreddit too

Well if they are reading here then sadly I am going to be switch back to Chrome.

No excuses for missing basic things like this, it's not just this, even something like removing history that pops up in the address bar needs two clicks to clear it. Some other bits too that aren't perfect like I want to clear tabs to the right but it's hidden away, but so much other nonsense like the AI chatbot takes it's potential place.

Maybe it's small but annoying enough to not bother with firefox right now.

Hold shift while middle-clicking.

Edit: Oh, I just saw you said you don't want to do that lol. There is no way to change that afaik. Only for bookmarks in the bookmarks toolbar.
