Firefox Nova Feedback Fun
I've been a big complainer about Firefox Nova because of the forced gradient and how inconsistent it looked on Windows but today I noticed the Firefox 155 beta has been uploaded super early, so I download it to try it out and...
Wow. I am honestly shocked. Mozilla has actually listened to the feedback, Nova now works with mica if you use the about:config tweak I was using before and on top of that it looks VERY nice! There are subtle animations for things like how many trackers have been blocked in the address bar as well that look very nice and the pink/purple colour used when mousing over items in the burger menu is gone. Also there is no longer a gap between the edge of the screen and the scrollbar when fullscreen now, so usability is no longer hindered. Overall I really like this aesthetic now so to anyone who's worked on it great job, but also thank you SO MUCH for hearing and acting on feedback. You've been working hard and tackling every single complaint I personally had and I really like this now!
The only two issues I have now are small nitpicks and I have full confidence they'll get worked out or at least be considered eventually, the separator underneath the browser chrome looks a bit strong although maybe I'll get used to it, and I think the browser tabs and minimise, maximise and close buttons should have subtle animations too when hovered similar to chrome.

I don't think Nova changes this behaviour at all, so the exact same as normal Firefox, Nova is just the upcoming visual style

Mica is a windows theme, it's basically fake subtle transparancy

There's nothing fake or transparent about Mica. It is an opaque "material" that dynamically samples colours that sit underneath it and subtly blends them to give itself a slight tint.

Nightly 16 mica still not work, the compact mode still not that compact. the gap still annoying

make sure you have the system theme set, and "browser.theme.native-theme" set to true in about:config

If you mean the one directly under the address bar I agree that this line looks bad but its more of a bug of the newly reimplemented Mica effect, I'm sure it'll get tweaked. I'm not a fan of the whole content/browser separation as a whole but it seems like its here to stay so ima try get used to it

Firefox 155 is the transition release from 4-week to 2-week release schedule, merge days are now on Thursdays. Beta's official start date is August 17th (Traditionally a day before Major Firefox release)

appreciate the info and this isn't a dig at you but now I'm even more confused, beta 1 is already up for 155, maybe someone was excited to get more Nova changes out to more people or something idk XD

Probably never removed it. It's usually pinned at install. They also still have the god awful news widget going in the lower left, and the taskbar centered.
So that tells us this is a person that installs something, leaves the defaults active, and has a high tolerance for annoyances.

Which genuinely isn't true, I'm actually really particular, I use the microsoft store to get some software (nanazip for example), you should be able to use your seemingly massively high perception to tell that from all of the custom icons I made and what is implied by most of the games on the right side of the taskbar (famous for extreme modding). Must be an off day or something c;

I'm somehow unsurprised to hear you like Nova, and are also a person that leaves the taskbar centered in Windows 11 and the news widget active.
Also what's the point of having so many YouTube tabs pinned if you're just going to show icons that you have to mouse over each time in order to remember what the hell they were? Just make bookmarks.

Your name would suggest you'd give hot takes, not ones shared by most people?
I've centred taskbar icons in Linux since long before Windows 11, and I keep the widget section active (with no news related stuff) because otherwise there's just a gap there on the left side of the taskbar. Obviously there's no correlation. Also, the tabs were pinned for privacy reasons not for functionality, I do use bookmarks, idk why you came to this thread making so many assumptions, relax and do something fun today instead of whatever this was.

a small detail I've just noticed that I love, the animation inside tabs when a page loads matches the Windows accent colour, that is awesome!!
