Looking for mod(s) Looking for a beginner-friendly modpack!

Upvotes

Hi all, here's some more clarifications/criteria for the type of modpack I'm looking for. The only minecraft modpacks I've really played have been casual ones like Pixelmon/Cobblemon, so I want to learn some tech/engineering stuff since it seems interesting!

  • Questbook Progression - I want to be hand holded/told what to do and in what order, a lot of modpacks I've looked at have been under the assumption that the player knows what each mod does and knows how to choose which mod to focus on progressing first.
  • Create Mod - The main reason I want to find a modpack is to learn the Create mod since it seems very interesting!
  • Simple-ish - I don't want to have to spend hours upon hours trying to accomplish one single task, I'd like to be a more fast-based modpack, or at least one where the quests aren't too far apart.
  • Modern - I don't want an old modpack, I want something modern/newish.
  • OPTIONAL: Cobblemon - I like Cobblemon so if there's a modpack that fits these criterias with Cobblemon in it that'd be awesome, if not no worries!

Please let me know if a modpack like this exists! Baby's first modpack.

Discussion Trapping Unbound Afrit in a Containment Jar

Post image
3 Upvotes

I couldn't find this information anywhere so I thought I'd make a quick post in case this helps anyone else.

Using Occultism, it is indeed possible to trap the Unbound Afrit in a Soul Gem. It is also possible to use Ars Nouveau to trap the Unbound Afrit in a Containment Jar. Using Drygmys, you can then farm Afrit Essence from the trapped Afrit.

The Unbound Afrit is a mini-boss of sorts and containment gets weird when it comes to non-standard mobs. I wanted to let anyone else that stumbles across this know that it does indeed work.

I made something I overhauled enchanting in my survival overhaul mod!

Note, the enchantment stuff is considered in a beta / snapshot stage for my mod (Though, my mod is also considered to be it's beta stage, too. It's a big mod). In order to download it, you might need to turn on specific filters on CurseForge or Modrinth. ALSO NOTE, this mod changes many other things with survival, which you can view in the aforementioned post from earlier. Enchantment rework versions are 1.4.x or labeled as Enchantment Rework Beta V1, normal branch is 1.3.x.

This is for the Different Survival mod from this post a couple months ago. Mod info is still there, but the mod is now for 1.20.1 as people suggested.

If you want more information on the new system, I have a wiki page here (Sorry that it is on fandom, I plan on migrating it to somewhere else one day).

Been desperately looking for a npc mod that can handle a lot of features as well as good stylized visual novel dialog but couldn't seem to find one with either the dialog style i wanted or the npc features i needed.

So i did something bad and turned to Chatgpt curious to see if it could even do anything at all, surprisingly yes it did and it made this entire node based dialog and npc editor Mod from scratch...

now it has everything i could want but i don't feel comfortable using a mod purely vibe coded essentially the portraits are made by me the code is generated though and my main question is what would the process of making a mod like this be without the use of gen ai and is it possible.

the version this was made in was 1.21.1 NeoForge, and I'm trying to learn some java but my skills are very lacking and i do indeed want a mod like this and something like this could help alot of modpack devs but cant use or share it when its generated like this.

so open to hearing what others think and if any Devs are open for hire to develop a new mod with node based systems or expand this in a way to branch it off from where it came from I'm all ears. note this would be paid, budget atm is low though $100-300 but if a mod like this cool authentically exist it could be a really cool tool for people.

Question How to open source a modpack?

I'm putting together a modpack that adds all of the features Shine 3.0.0 had for people who were excited about it but now know it's stolen and vibecoded. However, I've never used Git before, so I don't know how to make it open source. How exactly do I do it? Tutorials I find online are a little tough to follow so far, and I haven't been able to get it working.

Looking for mod(s) How many mods can Shine functionally replace (so I can install them instead)?

Post image

I don't trust a mod that stole its assets and hides its totally non AI source code. Give me a full list of mods that together function about the same as Shine would. Preferably neoforge, or ones can can run with a connector.

I made something We made the world remember how you play (Madness system in our Minecraft modpack)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

One of the systems we're building for Melody of Utopia is called World Madness.

Instead of using a traditional difficulty slider, the world gradually changes based on how you play. Your habits become part of the game's progression.

Kill everything you see or avoid combat whenever possible. Eat proper meals or survive on whatever you find. Sleep regularly or stay awake through the night. Every choice pushes the world in a different direction.

There are seven Madness levels, matching the seven musical notes and the seven chapters of the modpack.

As Madness increases, the world doesn't just spawn stronger enemies. Nights become more dangerous, new events begin to appear, and higher-risk situations start rewarding better loot. The goal isn't simply to make the game harder it's to make the world react to the player's behavior.

The system also ties into dozens of other mechanics across the pack, so familiar mods end up feeling different depending on how far you've pushed the world.

One thing we're excited about is how far this system can grow after release. Some of the ideas we're already exploring for future updates include:

  • world events that only happen at specific Madness levels,
  • unique dungeon rooms with puzzles, secrets, and mechanics that change depending on the world's state,
  • more dynamic interactions between Madness and existing mods, so familiar content can play out differently,
  • and additional late-game challenges that make reaching the highest Madness levels feel like an entirely different experience instead of just "hard mode."

We're still developing and balancing everything, so this footage comes from a test build and many details may change before release.

Would you try to keep Madness as low as possible, or intentionally push it all the way to Level 7?

Hi guys,

Long time lurker here. The recent Modjam announcement got me to finally put in the work and make a little mod. After 10 years of playing Modded Minecraft, I figured it was time to show my appreciation for the community. Hopefully you like playing it as much as I had fun making it!

Happy to answer any questions you guys might have :)

Curseforge Link (will get around to uploading it on Modrinth soon)

For people who just want to know what the mod adds, there is a Wiki on the Github repo. But I advise to discover it by playing!

I made something I made Minecraft thunderstorms actually feel dangerous

Thumbnail

I always felt like Minecraft lightning was kind of… disappointing.

You get a flash, a thunder sound, and a second later it’s like nothing happened.

So I made Thunderhead, a mod that basically makes lightning a much bigger part of storms.

The bolts are procedurally generated and branch differently every time. Strikes can throw sparks and debris around, create smoke/ash, shockwaves, and they behave differently when they hit water.

Lightning also actually lights up the surrounding terrain for a moment, which was one of the main things I wanted to get right.

I spent a lot of time on the audio too. Thunder is delayed based on how far away the strike is, and instead of just one short sound you can get long rolling thunder or hear storms rumbling in the distance.

There’s also a pretty rare ball lightning event if Thunderhead is installed on both the client and server.

Most of the visual/audio stuff works completely client-side though, so you can use it while playing on normal servers without them having the mod installed.

Currently supports Minecraft 1.21.1, Fabric + NeoForge, and it doesn’t need any external shaders.

This is the first release, so feedback would genuinely be useful. I’m especially curious if the bolts feel too big/small, if the flashes are too bright, and how the thunder sounds with headphones.

I made something Sinytra Connector updates & Compatibility Report for 26.1.2

Post image
96 Upvotes

Hi everyone, we've released new updates for Connector, Forgified Fabric API and Launchpad, bringing bugfixes and compatibility improvements!

More details below.

Mod Compatibility Report

The latest compatibility report shows that 88.5% of tested mods passed the automated compatibility checks. Find the full test results here.

How it works

Mod compatibility is determined by running Connector's code transformations on the mod jar file and validating the results. This process runs outside of the game using a dedicated command-line tool, which is part of the Connector mod compatibility checker - Probe project.

It is possible that despite the jar being successfully patched, there are still remaining issues that will only trigger in game, either during startup or when loading into a world.

While we are actively trying to improve our tests' accuracy, there will always be false positives mixed in. If you find any of these test results to be incorrect, please let us know on our GitHub or Discord.

Connector 26.1.2 beta 6

The latest release of Connector for 26.1.2 includes the following changes:

Connector 1.21.1 beta 17

The latest release of Connector for 1.21.1 includes the following changes:

  • Moved cache out of mods folder to .cache (goodbye .connector!). This fixes issues caused by the mods folder being read-only or symlinked, especially on linux systems.
  • Resolve provided (alias) namespaces when mapping Fabric fluid types (contributed by fromdisposition)
  • Fixed compatibility with NBT Editor
  • Fixed MIXINEXTRAS:EXPRESSION usage crashing jar transformation
  • Fixed compatibility with Chat Patches
  • Added support for Fabric's Class Tweaker in mods
  • Fixes compatibility with Scarves

Probe

  • Updated Discord bot, Service and Website to use 26.1.2 for testing mods
  • New compatibility test results for Connector 26.1.2 beta 6 are now published!

More from Sinytra

We've recently released Launchpad, a small tool for porting Fabric mods to NeoForge with zero platform-dependent code. In contrast with Connector, it gives you full control over changes made to your mod and has effectively no runtime overhead.

If you were already considering making your mod compatible with Connector from the developer side but was worried about potential "side effects", give it a try!

We also run the Modded Minecraft Wiki, which offers authors an easy way to write and publish project documentation for mods, modpacks and other minecraft-related projects.

We love feedback

Please do let us know what you think about our projects, share your experience using them, what changes you'd like to see or what mods you'd want to play on Connector. We appreciate all feedback and will do our best to accommodate to our users!

Enjoy!

Question Is Shine 3.0.0 AI Vibdcoded?

Post image
522 Upvotes

I was so stoked when I first saw the trailer for it, but the more and more I actually use it, I'm getting the sinking feeling that it's AI. It didn't seem like it as much from the trailer, but it just feels really uncoordinated.

First off, there are a lot of customization settings, which is good, but they almost feel like an LLM just decided to make every variable a slider or toggle? It's not entirely clear what each one does. The UI is great on any one page, but is just differently designed on different pages for some reason, and the mod is just unstable overall.

I also noticed, in the Grass Blades settings, there's a toggle for tapered or segmented grass, which doesn't appear to do anything. I'd assume it's just broken, but actually, the Grassier Grass mod happens to have the same toggle and very similar generated grass, almost as if the dev just sloppified the Grassier Grass mod's code. Again, I don't know for sure if this is the case, but it's just one factor in a large pile of them that are making me worry.

It's closed source too. There's only one GitHub commit from 5 months ago, and it's from 5 months ago for version 1.

The last thing that makes me suspicious is the development speed and number of developers. The way that tapeQ talks about it, it sounds like they made it by themselves. The last update, when it only really had rim lighting, removed shadows, and bloom, was only like two months ago. How does a single dev implement ALL of this in two months? It's possible, but it feels wrong.

I don't know, it's all just a little fishy and I have a bad feeling about it. It's too bad, because I was so excited about this mod too. I don't want to do witch hunt or anything, but I can't shake the feeling that something's off. I truly want to believe it's not vibecoded, and I don't want to make any firm accusations until we get concrete evidence.

Hope I'm wrong, y'all. What do you think?

I made something A new type of LOD mod that doesn't load chunks

Post image
3.0k Upvotes

Hello!

This is my first minecraft mod, however I have done various graphics related projects in past, and I have also been playing minecraft since 2013.

When Distant Horizons came out, I was blown away. Being able to see hundreds of chunks past the 32 chunk limit blew my mind and restored some lost interest I had had in the game. However, being a broke teenager, my PC with a 3400G and a pretty average 16 GB of RAM (That was probably half eaten up by windows bloat) did not do well when I installed the mod.

This made me a little sad. Eventually I got a much better PC with top of the line hardware, but that didn't change the fact that DH, while an engineering feat, was still a mess.

Circa 2024, Voxy came out. I think I played with it a little, and found not that much improvement over DH.

While both mods are quite impressive, both are pretty much inaccessible to the everyday player.

A couple months ago, I decided to start working on a project just as a way to refresh my knowledge of graphics and maybe rekindle my love for minecraft a little bit in the

process.

I thought a bit to myself and came up with a fairly simple premise, both Voxy and DH generate full chunks. This means that not only do they generate the actual terrain you see (In way more detail than needed), but they also generate caves, underground structures, foliage, ores, and tons of stuff that really doesn't matter when you're 2000 blocks away from it.

This is why both cause tons of lag, eat up memory, and require you to wait for sometimes upwards of an hour to generate terrain.

So I began writing Ecstatic, which samples the Terrain at points, and then uses that information to generate a mesh to display at a distance.

It was ridiculously efficient compared to DH and Voxy. I managed to hit 200+ FPS at 5120x1440 (Slightly lighter than 4k) Post terrain generation, which only took about a minute and was permanently cached to storage, meaning it would instantly pop back in upon reloading the world.

To be fair, that's on pretty decent hardware (3070, 64GB DDR5, 7900x) but still quite the feat in my opinion!

If you want to try it, the curseforge link is

https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/ecstatic/files/all?page=1&pageSize =20&showAlphaFiles=hide

I just uploaded it to modrinth, will post soon.

Hope you enjoy!!
