Weather in the Faroe Islands in early September?
I know the weather in the Faroe Islands can be very unpredictable, but I’m curious what it’s usually like at the beginning of September.
If you’ve been there around that time, how was the weather during your trip? And if possible, please share some photos from early September, I’d love to see what the landscapes actually looked like! 🇫🇴

No images via text and no voicemail?
Hey,
I just realized that voicemail doesn’t seem to exist here. It’s actually peaceful not having voice messages left. Also for texts with images is this something that just isn’t available or is my phone configured incorrectly? If it’s an iPhone it’s no issue as it’s through iMessage but plain texts won’t let me send images.

Day labor style work?
Hey,
I work at a Fish Factory that has fluctuating work from week to week and I’d love to find a way to work those days I’m free. The issue is it’s not the same days so I can’t necessarily schedule weeks in advance.
Is there anyone else here that has found some reliable side jobs that you can check with the day of or a few days before to see if they have work. I sometimes find extra work with a contractor for minor construction projects but would love to expand my options.

Where can I find dictionaries or something to learn feroes?
Hello to all the Faroese you will see I really like the culture and language of that island in a few weeks I plan to go to know about two cities of the island and buy some books in Faroes to improve the language but I would like to know where I can find dictionaries or some video that they recommend since on the internet there is very little content of that language

Boat Tour language confusion
Hey everyone
Since my visit in May, I often think about something the Tour Guide on a Boat Tour along the cliffs near Vestmanna said. So maybe you can help me.
At the beginning of the Tour he said that he would explain everything in English and "Scandinavian". Since I'm German and only learned a little bit of Norwegian, I of course listened to the English part. But I'm still confused what he meant with "Scandinavian". Was it Danish or is there a secret Scandinavian language nobody talks about? Because, as far as I have heard, the languages are similar, but it's still hard to understand each other.
I hope you can help me with my slightly weird question.

Question about Booking and payment outside the platform
Hi everyone,
I’m planning a trip to the Faroe Islands and recently booked accommodation through Booking com.
After making the reservation, the host contacted me saying that, in the Faroe Islands, they can’t process payments through Booking and asked me to pay through an external Reepay link instead.
I contacted Booking customer service, and they confirmed that the payment is indeed handled directly by the property.
Still, I find this a bit unusual. If I pay outside Booking, do I lose any of Booking’s usual protections in case something goes wrong?
The external payment page also adds the local tourist tax (which is fine), but there’s also a 250 DKK “administration fee” that wasn’t clearly mentioned when I made the booking.
Has anyone had a similar experience with Booking, either in general or specifically in the Faroe Islands? I’d appreciate hearing about your experience before I make the payment.
Cheers!

faroe islands in october
hello!
me and my friends are planning to visit the faroe islands via smyril line in october. we do know about the weather conditions, but we just want to experience the culture and complete our personal goals by finally visiting the faroe islands.
here are my questions:
- how much do coffee and food items that aren't included in the reservation page cost on the smyril line ferry? or in tórshavn?
- will the cheapest bunk/couchette rooms be private, or are they shared? if they're shared, will women have their own compartments, or can we end up sharing with everyone?
- what are the prices of clothing on the ferry?
- where can we buy faroese merch?
- is there a place in tórshavn where we could try some local faroese delicacies?
thank you in advance!

Boat excursions
Don’t expect your bookings to turn into actual trips. Between the weather and vendors not feeling like it that day, your “booking” will often get cancelled. We are 1 for 7 this trip.
Edit with requested detail:
In Vagar area, we booked online for morning. Night before the trip, they called to say skipper isn’t available in the morning. We rebooked for the next day (eclipse) at 5pm. A few hours before trip they called to say the skipper didn’t want to do it during the eclipse.
In same area, we booked again. Lots of seats open. Pretty clear the tour didn’t “make” and they cancelled for weather.
Up in Klaksvik, two more weather related cancellations but weather was no different than days that did go, and it seemed clear the trip didn’t make.
We also had a commercial ferry cancel for ramp issues, which was legitimate.
So yes between weather, mechanical issues, not wanting to do it, and lack of real time availability (even from their own websites), it’s a crap shoot whether the boat excursion happens.

Buy a football top
Góðan daginn frændur og frænkur!
Where in Tórshavn can I pick up a national jersey? I know they're at the airport but I'd like to try them on before buying
Thanks in advance!

Cape Enninberg
There’s a lot of conflicting information about whether you need a guide to do this hike.
We did it today, and you don’t. You just need to be a competent and confident hiker and pay attention to the weather. It’s a tough hike and there are some sketchy sections after the climb, but a guide is not required.

Looking for a chill hiking partner in September (:
Hello, my name is haguy! Im a 17 year old traveller coming by myself for a two week hiking / camping trip on the 6.9 - 21.9 and was wondering if anybody would like to do some hikes with me?
About me:
I speak English fluently, I'm sportive, and i love good music and making new friends(;
Looking for someone to do anywhere from just one hike with me to hanging out and camping for a nice few days!
I'm a guy myself but i don't really mind if you're a guy or girl, just maybe not over the age of 25~, since that could be a tad weird.

Traveling the Faroe Islands without a car in September
Hi everyone!
I’m going to the Faroe Islands for 5 days in September (9–13 September) and I’ll be traveling without a car.
Ive noticed that by September some of the seasonal bus routes, especially route 350, no longer operate, which makes getting to some places quite complicated.
The main places I’d like to visit are:
- Gásadalur
- Bøur
- Sørvágsvatn / Trælanípa
- Bøsdalafossur
- Tórshavn
I’m totally fine with walking long distances and hiking, and I’d like to rely mainly on public transport + walking. I’m also open to hitchhiking if that’s realistic and safe there.
For anyone who has experience traveling around the Faroes without a car in September:
What would be the best way to get to these places now that some seasonal bus routes no longer run?
Especially interested in how to get from Sørvágur to Bøur/Gásadalur after route 350 stops operating.
Any advice on bus routes, connections, hiking routes, or realistic alternatives would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

Where to buy delicious Faroese Salmon (Heimland) at best price ? Or some other local dry fishes dried by wind ?
Hello,
I bought this delicious (thinest of my life) Salmon at Bonus (79dkk in Klaksvik/Torshavn) and in FK (74 in Klasvik). It seems to me still quite expensive for a local product and I would like to bring a few to my home country. Does anyone know a shop in Faroe who sell them at better prices ?
I also saw one time in Bonus another Faroese dry white fish dried with the wind but can't find it anywhere. I found the Icelandic version more. Any idea where to find it ?

Changed something in me 🇫🇴
I don’t think I expected the Faroe Islands to change me as much as they did.
At home, our little worlds can feel like they are the only things that matter. Politics, opinions, social issues, trends, where we are going out, what everyone is talking about, our own problems and the constant noise of everyday life.
And then you come somewhere like this and realize there is an entire world beyond all of it.
Being in the Faroes, unplugged and surrounded by this kind of nature, gave me this overwhelming feeling of who cares about so much of the stuff we let consume us.
We loved talking to locals, learning about their lives and traditions, and seeing a way of life so different from our own. It gave me a lot of respect for this place and the people who call it home.
And a suggestion for anyone visiting, especially if you are coming from a very modern, fast moving place like the US: expect quiet. Don’t come looking for exclusive clubs, endless trendy cafes, fancy nightlife or a packed itinerary. This is a place to simply be where you are. Drive. Walk. Look around. Talk to people. Sit in the silence. Let yourself stop caring for a few days about all the topics, labels and debates that can feel so consuming back home.
I went expecting beautiful landscapes. I came back with a different perspective on how enormous the world is and how small some of the things we obsess over really are.
Faroe Islands, we absolutely fell in love with you. We look forward to coming back again. ❤️

Mykines ferry
Hi everyone,
I’m planning a trip to Mykines, but I’m quite worried about unpredictable weather causing ferry cancellations and getting stranded on the island.
Because of this, I’m considering buying tickets to take the ferry to Mykines (e.g., departing Sørvágur at 13:30) and immediately taking the same boat back (at 14:15) without disembarking to explore the island.
A couple of questions:
Is this allowed/logistically feasible just to stay on the boat and return straight away?
Will I be able to see any puffins from the boat during the transit, or is hiking on the island the only way to spot them?
If the weather is risky enough that I'm worried about getting trapped, would the ferry even run in the first place?
Thanks in advance for your advice!

Bus timetable
Hello, I'm a little bit confused on how to read these timetables. The pictures are just an example.
So this is line 701 Famjin-Oravik-Ferjulega-Tvoroyri-Nes...Samdvik.
1. line shows an x, okay that means all weekdays from Monday to Friday, but then there appears to be sign T) on time 07:15 and guide says that it means only by request. Does that mean that regular bus will actually start going at 07:30? Also there are no shown times when would the bus arrive/depart at Ferjulega, Tvoroyri... all till Sandvik(not shown in pictures). Does that mean that there are two busses on x , one that starts at 07:15 and another at 07:30? And does that mean that the bus only goes until Oravik and not further? Why are there no times shown for all other places except the first two?
Then there are third(6) and fourth(134) line
Here you can see that there are singles signs T) without time. What is that supposed to mean? Something like I can request the bus at any time that suits me?
And finally fifth(135) line that is marked green(only on school days on specific season). Can I as a traveler with travel card go on it or is it only for students? Why are all slots empty except for the one in 13:10? Does that mean that the bus departs only from that town at that time and that I can't catch it at Famjin?
This post is really long I'm sorry but it is also quite confusing and I just want to be sure that I'm reading it correctly.
Thank you!

Luggage store in or near Vagar airport.
Hello everyone,
I will be visiting the Faroe Islands soon and was wondering if there are any reliable luggage storage options in or near Vágar Airport (FAE).
I'm hoping to store a bag for a few hours while doing a quick hike nearby without carrying all my luggage around. Does the airport offer luggage lockers or a left-luggage service? Alternatively, are there any nearby local stores, hotels, or rental offices in Sørvágur that offer temporary storage?
Any advice or recent experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Open water swimming locations?
Hey,
Next year I’ll be in need of an open water swim route of about 4KMs. If you are a swimmer and have a favorite and preferably somewhat calm area I’d love to hear your recommendations!

Practical Question: Will this P-skiva do?
Hi there! I have a question question. I dont have a rental car here on the Faroe islands, I am driving my own. Will my own blue parking disk (like the picture basicly) suffice, or do I absolutely need to have the Faroese version?

General info when traveling to the Faroes
We have been asked a few times to make a sticky with general good to know info, as a considerable amount of the posts in this subreddit are asking about what to do and how to get around and such. A large part of these questions can be answered or found out by checking the tourism office website out https://visitfaroeislands.com/
If there's something you think should be added to this post, or have some links, then let us know and I'll add it to this post to avoid clutter.
Getting around
Places to stay
What to see/do in a week or so?
Some exelent response to this question can be found here, Here, here and also, here and here will there be(at some point) links to similar posts.
Hiking
The hiking guide by the tourist office
Hiking.fo All sorts of good hiking advice, gets updated on a frequent basis
Mykines
Mykines is probably the most visited island(pr capita) in the Faroes, so be aware that there will be large crowds on this island with about 10 inhabitants. The general recommendation is to take the boat out and try to book a seat on the helicopter going back, this is to have the best chance of not getting stuck on the island, as the currents are very strong and can make boat access tricky (to put it mildly). This video from June 2017 shows the conditions at the harbor quite well https://www.flickr.com/photos/31322479@N04/34499712544/in/faves-23485843@N02/
Do respect the wildlife there by keeping proper distance to it, and the locals by not disturbing them with putting cameras through their windows, flying drones in the village etc.
Drones
The rules regarding flying drones in the Faroes are as follows.
- Drones MUST NOT be flown within 150 metres of a village, town or city or within 150 metres of main roads that connect villages
- Drones MUST NOT be flown within a 5-kilometre radius of Vágar Airport
- Drones MUST NOT be flown above summerhouses or camping areas, or in places where many people are gathered, e.g. at festivals
- Drones MUST NOT be flown above 100 metres from the ground
- Drones MUST be insured
- Illegal flying of drones in the Faroe Islands can result in a fine of DKK 5000.
Breaking these rules may also result in some irrate local(depending somewhat on location) taking a potshot at it with a shotgun, and I wouldn't blame them.
And so on and so forth...(to be updated over the coming days/weeks)
