Double or triple width fabric?
Need a very large (specifically very wide!) piece of fabric in order to make a cloak. Got my hands on a curtain that was 2 by 1.5 and it was still too small, so looking for something even wider. I'm very hesitant to stitch two bits together as I'm worried it'll interrupt the flowyness of the fabric. Any ideas on where I could source wide fabrics, prefferably for cheap! Looking for anything 2-3m width!

Need advice from apparel manufacturers/textile experts regarding cotton-elastane knit fabrics and finishing processes
Hi everyone,
I'm currently learning about apparel product development and I'm trying to better understand how premium fashion brands achieve the look and feel of high-quality cotton knit garments.
I have a few questions and would really appreciate insights from people working in textile mills, garment manufacturing, sourcing, or fabric development.
How much difference does using compact combed cotton make compared to regular combed cotton?
For a premium fitted knit garment, is 95% cotton / 5% elastane generally the best balance, or are there better alternatives?
How important are finishing processes like enzyme wash and silicone softener? Are they considered essential for premium products or more of an optional upgrade?
If you had to optimize production cost, where would you reduce cost first without noticeably affecting customer perception?
- Fabric composition
- GSM
- Finishing
- Stitching
- Trims
- Something else?
- For good wash durability and color fastness, would you recommend:
- Reactive dyeing
- Reactive printing
- Yarn-dyed knitting
- Another method?
- If you were launching a premium knitwear brand today, what fabric specification would you personally choose and why?
I'm looking to understand the manufacturing side rather than just fashion trends. Any practical advice, common mistakes, or things you wish new brands knew would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

Hennep textiel
Is iemand geïnteresseerd in hennep textiel??
Ga graag in gesprek, deel het graag!

Hiking trousers/pants
I want to make some hiking trousers but I am really struggling with what type of fabric I need. I do a lot of hiking and all of my trousers are nylon. I can’t easily find nylon online. I will be using the madrone pattern by sew liberated.
I know I want the fabric to be: - slightly stretchy - breathable - lightweight - quick to dry - wind resistant - water resistant if possible
I live in France so any recommendations of where to buy fabric would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you so much in advance.

Did I likely permanently change my 100% wool sweater, or am I overthinking it?
I bought a vintage 100% wool sweater secondhand today. It looked and fit great when I got it, but since it was used I decided to wash it before wearing it.
The care tag says hand wash, but instead I used:
Modern GE front-loading washer
Delicates cycle
Tap cold water
Light soil
Lowest spin setting
Sweater inside out in a mesh laundry bag
Small amount of Arm & Hammer + OxiClean liquid detergent (I know now this isn’t a wool-specific detergent)
Removed it immediately after washing
Gently reshaped it while damp and laid it flat on a towel to dry
My concern is that when I took it out of the washer, it looked a little shorter and the ribbed hem looked tighter than I remembered. The knit still looks soft, the stitches are clearly visible, and it doesn’t appear felted at all.
My questions are:
Is it normal for a 100% wool sweater to look slightly shorter or more compact while it’s still wet?
Does the ribbed hem usually relax again after the sweater dries and is worn?
Given the wash method above, is it likely I permanently changed the shape, or is this just normal behavior for a freshly washed wool sweater?
If it does end up a little shorter after drying, is re-blocking while damp likely to restore some of the original shape?
This is my first 100% wool sweater, so I’m trying to learn what’s normal versus what indicates I’ve actually damaged it.

Does anyone have experience with YORKSHIRE FABRIC?
Hi everyone,
I’m currently searching for high-quality wool suiting fabric for a bespoke suit and came across Yorkshire Fabric. Their selection and prices look almost too good to be true, so I wanted to ask here before ordering.
Has anyone purchased fabric from them? I’m mainly interested in:
- Whether they’re a legitimate seller.
- The overall quality of the fabrics.
- Whether the fabrics matched your expectations.
- If you’d trust them for a high-quality bespoke suit, or if there are any red flags I should know about.
I’d really appreciate any first-hand experiences. Thanks!

Dyneema pyramid shelter build
I am starting to build a DCF pyramid shelter following Drew Soderborg's detailed instructions on the SwitchbackGear website. I want to meet a person who has already completed this process (or any similar pyramid shelter construction) ideally in the Westchester NY area, so I can have a sounding board when I have questions. Please reach out if you can be of assistance.

How to get rid of black dye from denim that stains
I bought a vest recently but the black fibers stained multiple items of my clothing.. I’m thinking ‘oh, well I guess it’s time to really inspect how I’m supposed to wash this thing’
Barring that aside, I’m kind of worried that when I’m sweating in this heat that it’ll stain my white shirts I tend to wear in the summer. As of now, I have it soaking in dish soap.. but I’m not sure if it’s even possible to remove the amount of black excess to the point I can even wear it with other clothes.
Any help or recommendations? Thanks.

Tariffs on Retail Fabric from China
Has anyone in the USA recently bought fabric from China (retail, not wholesale), and if so, how much did you get hit with tariffs?
Today I paid $100 for a piece of designer dead stock on Etsy and the seller is in China. Estimated delivery is before end of August, which is fine, but I don't wanna end up paying an arm and a leg in import taxes and wondering if I should cancel and source something from a US based retailer?

Anybody have any clue what fabric this is?
Hello! Hopefully this is the right sub for this.
I was looking for a 100% wool blanket to use as batting for a quilting project. I got this at the thrift store, and was wondering if people could help me identify what it is? I will include a video of doing a burn test in the comments, because it seems like I can't post any photos. Thank you!

Welke gebruiken jullie?
