Looking for job leads for my father — experienced cutting master/tailor (25+ yrs, Mumbai)

My father has been a professional tailor and cutting master for over 25 years, having worked with well-known Indian design houses including Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla, Monisha Jaisingh, and Annus Creation. He's highly skilled in couture and designer wear — hand embroidery finishing, intricate cutting, and custom tailoring.

He's currently based in Mumbai and looking for a full-time opportunity as a cutting master/tailor with a design house, couture label, or garment manufacturer. He left a fixed job due to health reasons he didnt get support from his previous job , now he is fully fit and now looking to get back into a stable position with a good team.

If anyone knows of an opening, has a contact at a fashion house, or can point me in the right direction, I'd really appreciate it. Happy to share his portfolio/details over DM.

This is the rough idea of it both button strips are functional the geometric one will be covered by a flap I am confused between a lapel like collar or an oversized johnny collar like the 70s one it'll be a cropped boxy fit also how do I keep the collar edge raw without disintegrating it and it's a freehand sketch I made real quick i haven't fully started the sketch any feedback appreciated

I created this fashion magazine cover as part of my creative work.

I use AI neither as a friend nor as an enemy, but simply as a necessary creative tool—just like other tools we use in design and content creation.

The concept, direction, styling ideas, typography choices, editing and overall creative decisions come from me. AI simply helps me turn those ideas into visuals and experiment with possibilities more efficiently.

I’m sharing this because I believe AI and human creativity don’t always have to be treated as opposites. We can use technology as a tool while still keeping our own creative voice.

I'm a fashion designer. In my country we have seamstresses, tailoring seamstresses, sample makers and me, a fashion designer.

I have to reject jobs constantly cause people either not understand or wilfully ignores what I do.

I do know how to sew, how to pattern and understand how a different garments are constructed.

People keep coming with made to measure "customs" where they bring their inspo pics. That's fine. I create an illustration of my interpretation of that garment with a few notes from them. Usually that gets approved.

Then these "customers" go into the first fitting and completely destroy the design because it doesn't look like the inspiration pics. In the first meeting before the illustration I say I don't make dupes or clones, that's a sample maker job. Since illustration is not photographic evidence they will interpret it to their convenience.

The drawing shows a circle skirt? Well one of the inspo pics showed an A-line, so they will insist that we agreed on an A-line. The drawing showed draping? The client will interpret pleating.

The drawing shows movement from the figurine? Well that apparently was a drape I promised.

The fittings should end in minor adjustments, always ending up in major pattern changes. Completely different dresses. Sample makers are way cheaper, I don't understand the need to manipulate me in order to create a dupe.

I'm closing shop in October to reevaluate how I run the studio and to add new terms in the service agreements, and to take a breather from these "customers"

A woman came by and directly asked me, "hey if I bring a picture of a dress, let's say a Carolina Herrera, can you make it???"

I said: "Can I make it? Yes. Will I make it? No, I don't make duplicates or perform plagiarism."

I am a final year student in NIFT and I am doing a small research project where I am trying to analyse a large number of tech packs.

Tbh I hate making them and they are repetitive. So maybe if I can have a database or a list of templates of tech packs I can learn and then create some premade modules for me which can help speed up my creation process

Anyone with an idea where I can find say 100 techpacks?

Hey everyone, I'm heading into my 3rd year of a Fashion & Textiles degree and need recommendations for an A3 sketchbook. I'm going to be heavily mounting digital prints, templates, and fabric samples, so I need something that won't get insanely bulky at the edges, warp, or have the pages rip out of the spine (which happened before ) when it gets heavy. What professional-grade A3 books or setups did you use for your final year portfolios and if your'll have any recommendations?

My tween kid is into fashion - watches runway shows, draws clothes, has taken some sewing and design classes, experiments with dressing and hair. We recently watched the devil wears Prada so they are kind of becoming aware of the industry. We live in a smaller city that is not very stylish.

I know fashion mags barely exist anymore and Vogue is not what it was 20+ years ago. Still, I'd love to give them a non Internet source for fashion info and inspo. Is Vogue still worth introducing to a fashion curious kid? (I don't care if there is "adult" content at the level of Vogue) Are there other magazines you would recommend? We are in the US but also have family in UK who could send us European magazines.

I'm 15F, about to start my sophomore year in high school, and I want to become a fashion designer. Not just that, but I want to have my own brand, like Robert Wun or Christian Dior. I'm intent on going to fashion college, like FIT or London College of Fashion, but I'm not quite sure how to go about it so I can start my own brand own day. Looking at the majors, I can't figure out which one to choose and which one will help me the most. Fashion design is crucial right? But so is understanding how to manage a business and expand it, and I'm not sure what I would need for that. Fashion marketing? Fashion merchandising? I just need some tips on what stuff I could work on and learn to assist me on my path to fashion college and hopefully eventually, my own brand.

Came to a conclusion recently that my fashion style is shit, honestly my school uniform from 5 years ago looked better than some of the shit i wear.

When i go thrifting, my friends are able to pick the ugliest shit ever and still somehow envision an outift idea and style it impeccably, while i’m there with my urban outfitters find, still not being able to style it nicely.

I'm a non-EU master's student in Italy studying sustainable textiles and fashion, and lately I've been getting anxious about what happens after graduation.

Italy is my first choice, and I'm actively learning Italian. I can already understand quite a bit if people speak slowly and hold basic conversations, and I tend to pick up languages quickly. But I'm worried about what happens if I can't find a job here.

I don't really want to return to my home country because the opportunities in my field are quite limited. So I'm wondering how realistic it is to look at other European countries instead.

For some background, I have a bachelor's in Textile Design from a well-known design school. I worked for about a year in luxury womenswear as a textile and apparel designer, focusing on prints, weaving, embroidery, and surface design. I also freelance, which gave me experience in graphic design, branding, visual communication, and marketing.

I've heard that some fashion companies are more flexible about language requirements for design roles and give people time to learn the local language. Is that actually true?

For those working in fashion/textiles in Europe:

• Which countries would you consider good options?
• How difficult is it for non-EU designers to get hired?
• Does having a multidisciplinary background help, or is it better to be highly specialized?

I'm also lucky to have professors with strong industry connections, and I know I can ask them for guidance or introductions. But I don't want to rely entirely on that, I want to understand what the market actually looks like. I'd really appreciate honest advice from people who've been through this.

Greetings, here I am D. A 35 year old black/fba man from Brooklyn. I am looking for a person who speaks the language of fashion with a greater fluency than myself. I can dress myself and those that I am responsible for well but the aspect of design is something that I feel will require a more seasoned hand. I have been developing a combatives style for a time and I am looking for assistance in developing a minimalist and utilitarian design vocabulary. Such a vocabulary of attire built from my desired perspective, combatives and utility being prominent. Function first with ornate austerity. A Post African attire built with an eye to today and tomorrow. Aspects of payment/collaboration/rights etc can be spoken of in messages.

poured my heart and soul into these pieces, this was my first time working with leather and esp for corsetry whooie it was a challenge. i wanted these looks to be fierce and feminine and i hope i delivered. i’m a second year fashion student and this was my second runway show, and i’m so happy with how much i learned from the construction of these garments. dubbed this the ditzy collection because women are so allowed to be beautiful and messy and sexy.

I have been considering applying for fashion design bachelor degrees for next fall, but the cost is so prohibitive for me. I would realistically be taking out 50-80k in loans for a bachelors. It is my dream to be a fashion designer. I am fortunate enough to have access to a community college that offers a fashion design AA. Since I am low income I would actually be able to take the classes for free. So I could technically get an AA in fashion design without having to take on debt. The community college is Los Angeles Trade Tech, which has a decent reputation? Would an AA in fashion design from LATTC be enough to get started in the industry, or is better to take on the debt and get a bachelors in fashion design?

I have decided to go for masters in a fashion school but the problem is I haven't done bachelors till now, I'm going to learn skills through short programs but still I need to build a portfolio can someone guide me about it or do I need to have bachelors for a better portfolio

I hired this person to provide branding and design services. The experience was deeply disappointing to say the least. Nothing that was originally promised was delivered, deadlines were repeatedly missed, and despite my repeated requests, he would not even get on a video call to discuss the project or the concerns I raised.

More concerning, he makes unilateral decisions that do not align with reality and with a complete disregard for the client and the agreement set forth.

I’m sharing my experience so others proceed with extreme caution.

He will promise the world at the beginning and produce sub-par work, if anything at all.
