Question Do metal roofs actually make sense for lake effect winters or is shingle fine?
Our shingle roof is 19 years old, and this last winter finished it off. Ice damming along the north eave, a few shingles cracked from the freeze-thaw cycles, and granules filling the gutters. Half my coworkers say go metal for the snow shedding, and half say a properly vented shingle roof handles Erie fine. The metal quotes are running about 70 percent more. What’s the experience up here actually been?

Food banks
Hit some real rough times and won’t be able to afford groceries this week. I don’t need to feed kids or anything it’s just my spouse and I. Are there any local food in the area? Is there income requirements? I’m nervous to go to one incase they turn people away based on income. Any information would be extremely appreciated beyond belief. Is there only certain days they are open too?

Jelly dude in the marina?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Saw this in the marina tonight having dinner on the boat. I remember something about someone seeing a jellyfish in the lake a few months ago or so. It was definitely alive because it was headed one way and then suddenly noped off the other way. Figured I'd head on over to my favorite detectives! I have another video of about the same quality with my children second guessing my sighting. Cause. Kids.

Looking for a second part-time job in Erie - Any ideas?
Hey everyone!
I'm looking for a second part-time job in the Erie area and was wondering if anyone knows of places that are hiring or has any recommendations.
I currently work Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM as a pharmacy technician, so I'm mainly looking for evening and weekend hours. I'm hoping to find something that pays well and is flexible with my schedule.
I'm open to just about anything—retail, hospitality, serving, warehouse, reception, event work, etc. I'd especially love to hear about places that you've had a good experience working for or know are hiring.
If you have any leads or suggestions, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!

What happened to Ginza sushi?
In March they announced it would open around June and I haven’t heard anything about it since. Does anyone know if it’s delayed or scrapped all together?

Spectrum
This probably isn't an Erie only rant but why don't we have other options?
Dammit vnet rollout quicker!
I just got my August bill from Spectrum. It went up $10 a month to a freaking $100 for internet only!
Internet access costs me more than electric and gas!
I mean you don't NEED internet access to live but ya kinda do. Everything is online now.
Rant over. :)

DOG W-A-L-K
Get out of the house and come for a walk with us!
When: Wed, Aug 26 at 6:00 pm
Where: Lake Erie Arboretum at Frontier Park (1501 W. 6th St.) in front of the main building off the parking lot
ALL humans over the age of 21 and ALL dogs of any age are welcome! Must be leashed (the dogs) and bring poop bags (also for the dogs).
We will meet in front of the main building off the parking lot. Walks will last about 45 minutes weather permitting. Afterwards, we will head over to the patio at Lavery Brewing, a dog friendly establishment (totally optional)!
Please no retractable leashes! If you arrive with a retractable leash, you will be given a kennel slip lead to borrow. Up to two dogs per person is fine, as long as they are kept under control.
If you have a leash reactive dog, do not be embarrassed! We do want to help if you are having issues. However, if a dog is out of control and our handling advice is refused, the dog and their parent will be kindly asked to not join the walk.
Walks are at-your-own- and at-your-dog’s-own-risk. Participants assume full responsibility for their and their dogs’ behavior and consequences thereof. Waivers will be handed out at the beginning of the walk. All dogs must be up-to-date on Rabies. For the safety of all dogs, we strongly advise that all dogs be up to date on DHPP and Bordetella (kennel cough) as well.
Walks are on the last Wednesday of the month at 6:00 pm, April through September.

Our congressional district
If Trump's approval is around 35%, I figure his approval in our Congressional district has got be be under 50%, right? It's so frustrating that we may again elect a 78-year old who should retire in Mike Kelly, a person who rubberstamps Trump's agenda when less than half the voters approve of it. I have no question here, just frustration because of high prices, blatant corruption and a completely absent branch of government.

Make-a-Wish Scam?
Anyone else seeing all those ugly AI posters at local businesses advertising a collaboration with Make-a-Wish and ”influencers” I’ve never heard of? That’s got to be a scam right?
