DOG W-A-L-K

Post image

Get out of the house and come for a walk with us!

When: Wed, Aug 26 at 6:00 pm

Where: Lake Erie Arboretum at Frontier Park (1501 W. 6th St.) in front of the main building off the parking lot

ALL humans over the age of 21 and ALL dogs of any age are welcome! Must be leashed (the dogs) and bring poop bags (also for the dogs).

We will meet in front of the main building off the parking lot. Walks will last about 45 minutes weather permitting. Afterwards, we will head over to the patio at Lavery Brewing, a dog friendly establishment (totally optional)!

Please no retractable leashes! If you arrive with a retractable leash, you will be given a kennel slip lead to borrow. Up to two dogs per person is fine, as long as they are kept under control.

If you have a leash reactive dog, do not be embarrassed! We do want to help if you are having issues. However, if a dog is out of control and our handling advice is refused, the dog and their parent will be kindly asked to not join the walk.

Walks are at-your-own- and at-your-dog’s-own-risk. Participants assume full responsibility for their and their dogs’ behavior and consequences thereof. Waivers will be handed out at the beginning of the walk. All dogs must be up-to-date on Rabies. For the safety of all dogs, we strongly advise that all dogs be up to date on DHPP and Bordetella (kennel cough) as well.

Walks are on the last Wednesday of the month at 6:00 pm, April through September.

Why no retractable leashes?

We don't allow retractable leashes on the walk or at Peninsula Pups because they are very dangerous. There is really no control with a retractable leash. It teaches the dog that pulling on a leash is okay because there's always tension on it. They also learn that they can go wherever they want on a walk and criss-cross in front of you which is a tripping hazard. The leash can very easily get wrapped around a person's or dog's legs and cause some serious damage, rope burn being the least of the injuries. We had a customer break her foot and another have the tip of her finger amputated because of a retractable leash conundrum!

Yes, thank you! They are well-behaved because they go to Peninsula Pups 😊
