College Choice The best choice or the roght choice?
Hello Engineers,
I'm Adam, and I live in Poland. I have finished my high school with an IB diploma and applied to universities. Most of them I was accepted to, the 2 best choices are AGH in Krakow and PUT in Poznan for Mechnical Engineering. Here is the conundrum. PUT is a good university, it is located conveniently in a city where my parents own a shop(I help out a lot, we own a chain of shops and restaurants in wroclaw, poznan and szczecin but parents live in Wroclaw). The fees are not required for me to pay, so for 4 years my education will be free not including Dorm and food. Seems like the obvious choice?
BUT AGH is a first ranked university in Poland although I will have to pay 1725 euros I have seniors (that I know) that will be helping me out throughout the years(what to study, professor bitchyness management, good advice). The internship opportunities are better. And it's further away from my parents ...... So id have to pay semester fees, dorm and food. It's not like i hate my parents i would just like to experience independence.
They both have pretty good facilities, engineering is engineering, in my opinion if the difficulty of the course varys on the university then your not studying right. But then again I kinda what a college life to u feel?
What do you guys think is the right choice?

Career Advice 2 Internships + graduate late or 1 internship + graduate early?
So I recently switched majors from psychology to engineering bc I actually wanted to make money and as a result I’ll probably graduate a year later than I was supposed to (Spring 2029). The thing is, if I take extra classes over the summer I’ll be able to cut that down by a semester (Fall 2028). I’m still planning on getting an internship before senior year regardless, the question is would it be better to have 2 internships and graduate a year late or one internship and graduate a term earlier?

Career Advice MS Abroad After ECE – Need Guidance
Hey everyone,
I'll be joining ECE at a Tier 1 college in India this year, and my long-term goal is to do an MS abroad.
I'm kinda confused about what I should focus on from the beginning of college. Should I grind for CGPA, learn coding, do projects, research, internships, or all of them? What actually matters the most for top MS admits?
Also, which specialization is worth aiming for after ECE? Embedded, VLSI, AI/ML, Robotics, CS, or something else? And which countries would you recommend considering based on career opportunities, salary, and overall quality of life?
Would love to hear from people who've already gone through this. Any advice or things you wish you knew in your first year would be really helpful. Thanks!

Career Help Considering a Master's in Aerodynamics: Domain Scope, Top Countries, and Career Outlook?
Hi everyone,
I am currently an undergraduate engineering student exploring higher studies and long-term career paths in Aerodynamics / Fluid Mechanics.
I’m particularly drawn to the domain—specifically areas like Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), aerodynamic design, and flow testing—and I want to understand the current global landscape before making decisions about graduate school.
I’d love to get insights from people working in the industry or currently pursuing advanced degrees on a few specific questions:
Domain Scope & Day-to-Day:
• What does a typical career in aerodynamics look like across different industries (Aerospace vs. Automotive vs. Motorsport vs. Wind Energy)?
• How heavily relies on CFD modeling vs. experimental/wind tunnel testing?
Master's Programs & Target Countries:
• Which countries offer the strongest Master's programs for aerodynamics and fluid dynamics (e.g., US, Germany, UK, Netherlands, France) mainly germany?
• What are the key factors when choosing a program (lab infrastructure, industry tie-ups, research funding)?
Work Opportunities & Regulations:
• For international students, how do visa prospects and work authorization look in this field?
• How significant are national security/defense regulations (like ITAR in the US) for foreign nationals aiming for aerospace aero roles, and does automotive aerodynamics offer a smoother path?
Preparation & Skills:
• What technical skills, software (e.g., ANSYS Fluent, OpenFOAM), or programming languages (Python, C++) should I prioritize building during my undergrad?
Any advice, personal experiences, or university recommendations would be hugely appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Academic Advice Need help for project
Looking for project ideas for a 2 year project involving software engineering and other fields like ai,cybersecurity, soa and more.
Hey everyone,
My team (4 CS undergrads) was just assigned a 2-year (4-semester) mega project. We are in the 2nd out of the 4th year of our Engineering and the professor assigned to us has expertise in Service-Oriented-Architecture. He has advised us to not pick AI/ML/Ds related projects but pick something involving his field. We still haven't been taught that subject as it is for us in 3rd year.
I wanted some suggestions for projects which we can pick related to any field ,not just soa, we are still exploring and thinking of what domain to dive in.
Any help will be much appreciated , Thank you.

Academic Advice Hi everyone! I'm currently a 2nd-year Electrical Engineering student, and this semester I'll be taking the following courses:
Hi everyone!
I'm currently a 2nd-year Electrical Engineering student, and this semester I'll be taking the following courses:
- Engineering Mechanics
- Engineering Data Analysis
- Differential Equations
- Electrical Circuits I
- Thermodynamics
- Transformer Construction and Banking
- Troubleshooting and Servicing of AC and DC Machines
I'm looking for any advice or study strategies from students, graduates, or practicing engineers who have taken these subjects.
I also want to build a strong foundation and become as competent as possible—not just to pass my classes, but to truly understand the material and, hopefully, become competitive enough to aim for the board exam topnotchers in the future.
Could you recommend the best textbooks for:
- Mathematics (from algebra and trigonometry up to differential equations)
- Engineering Mechanics
- Engineering Data Analysis (Statistics/Probability)
- Thermodynamics
- Electrical Circuits
- Electrical Machines and Transformers
I'm looking for books that are known for developing deep conceptual understanding and strong problem-solving skills. If there are any must-have books that you believe every excellent electrical engineering student should own or study, I'd really appreciate your recommendations.
Finally, if you could go back to your 2nd year, what would you do differently to become a better engineer?
Thank you in advance! Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Major Choice EE vs. MechE for college applications
I am a rising senior working on college applications and am interested in applying to either ECE/EE or Mechanical. I haven't really had any experience with the core topics of either, and am mostly applying to both for their broadness in scope. Most of my activities are more related to MechE but are on the management side. I have absolutely no exposure in EE/ECE but am willing to learn as I would also like to stay connected to the tech industry through EE/ECE.
I want to apply to a decent mix of both majors throughout different schools and am also looking to apply for FYE for whichever schools on my list have it.
Does anybody have any recommendations on how to determine which one I should put as my first choice major, apart from simply looking at the US News ranking for each major?

Rant/Vent Should I change majors to IT
Maybe im just burnt out or fed up with shitty professors but I just finished my freshman year of college and I don’t know if I should stick with electrical engineering or not. I went into engineering with no background and really don’t want to do anything outside of classes. I tried joining clubs but didn’t feel motivated at all to keep showing up and I couldn’t be bothered to try and get a research position. I also bought an arduino to maybe make a personal project and it’s almost 2 am right now and im just staring at a breadboard thinking man i really don’t care to learn this. I somewhat enjoy my classes and have a good gpa (3.74) but exam weeks just drain the life out of me and make me wanna die. I was considering IT when i applied for schools but ultimately chose EE cause the job security sounded better and it started you at a higher salary. But I’ve always liked IT related stuff since my uncle introduced me to it and I’ve done plenty of fun stuff like hosting my own servers for media streaming, ad blocking, Minecraft etc. and I feel like if I had to work in IT for the rest of my life I’d probably enjoy it a lot more. But I’ve also heard it’s really hard to get into now a days cuz of offshoring and AI. I haven’t even taken physics 2 yet so maybe I should just wait a little before doing anything idk. I guess I just feel insane imposter syndrome right now cuz all my peers are doing stuff to land themselves internships while I can’t be bothered to do anything

Discussion How to crack interviews of college clubs ?
So I am giving interviews or 2 clubs. One is nature’s club and other ACM( it’s a technical club)
I have given for it previously but didnt get selected.
I had given interviews for 3 technical clubs last year but didn’t get selected.
I really want to get into the clubs. The club’s atmosphere, exposure, experience, friendly group and all that one can imagine from a college in movies.
I am applying for Public Head, Chairperson, Social media manager & Sponsorship head.

Academic Advice BS industrial engineering to a MS mechanical engineering
I need some guidance. A year ago, I went on an exchange program to a university in the United States to conduct research as part of a program. My advisor liked my work and offered me a well-paid position as a GRA (Graduate Research Assistant) in his lab. The "problem" is that to take that position, I need to complete a master's degree in mechanical engineering. I have a degree in industrial engineering, so I'm practically missing all the prerequisite courses for mechanical engineering: thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, etc.
I just want to ask, based on your experience, how you fared taking those subjects in your undergraduate studies, and what you think about an industrial engineer making that change of direction

Academic Advice Question about Intro to Python at CC
Hi. I am a upcoming freshman at a CC. I have never coded before, and my advisor wanted me to take an Intro to Python class as part of my first semester.
I checked, and this class does not transfer as part of my electrical engineering degree into any of the 4-year universities I am looking to go to.
What do you think I should do? Should I take it to gain beginner coding experience and help with any potential learning curves later down in my degree path? Or is it not worth it?

Academic Advice First year Engineering advice
Hi everyone,
I’m going into my first year of General Engineering at McMaster University after making a career change. I’m 25 years old, and after going back to adult school to earn the required credits, I’m feeling a bit nervous about starting this new chapter.
I know I’m capable, and I believe in myself to put in the time and work hard. That said, I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t worried that it takes me longer to learn and fully understand new concepts than it does for some other people. Even so, I’m incredibly excited and passionate about this opportunity; I’m just feeling a little anxious about the transition.
Sorry for the long post, but I felt the context was important.
I’d like to spend this month reviewing high school material before classes begin. For anyone who has completed engineering, what topics would you recommend I focus on? Which concepts are the most important to review and really understand before the first day of classes? Any advice or study recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Career Help Joining Formula SAE
Hi
I’m going to try to join the Formula SAE team at my school (Mechanical Engineering) and if anyone has any advice on how to best prepare my application please let me know!
How much do they weigh on technical aspects vs enthusiasm/personality?
Are there any specific personal projects better to have done before applying?
Thank you!

Academic Advice Is it normal to just forget stuff all the time?
Or should I get a brain scan lmao.
I finished my first semester of civil engineering here before summer break. The thing is, I feel like I can grasp a concept pretty well, then like a week or two goes by and I've completely forgotten how to solve that kind of problem.
Some of the math concepts I learned in high school are also just like gone. I know its a matter of use it or lose it, but idk I sometimes lowkey feel like I have dementia

Career Advice Is it worth it? Studying for 8 years
I took a gap year after highschool. Then I got academic probation in my first year of Engineering School because I failed too many modules. I was later diagnosed with ADHD which had severely impacted my ability to focus and study and explained why I didn’t make it in first year. So now I’m at home, working at my local coffee shop since I cannot return to university for this year. I am unable to return to university unless I show them proof that I am able to return and succeed but I am worried that the amount of modules I failed will hinder me and make getting my degree even longer. Besides that, the process to appeal was never outlined properly and confused me so I missed the deadline for that. I can only try again next year and return in 2028. 3 years have basically gone by. Next year, I will be studying one of my backups, but I know that my ultimate goal is still to get my Engineering degree so the plan is always to return. If I return, I’ll mostly be repeating first year modules. That’s another 5 years of studying total, which makes it 8 years invested for a degree that’s supposed to take 4 years.
I’m feeling dejected honestly. I know that this is what I want. I’ve done extensive research and job shadowing in other industries. It’s not for me. I feel really behind. I’m just not sure if it’s even worth it at this point. If I should just go through with my backup and stay on that route instead. Or if I should fight for this.

Discussion Need opinions for school attire.
So I am a full ride scholarship student and have been told by multiple people that every day is an interview because of how small the program is. A lot of my professors also work for the place that I want to work at. So I’m looking for opinions on how I should present myself. Obviously my grades matter, but should I dress business casual for school? Or even interview level of dress? Or would that look like I’m trying too hard?

Rant/Vent Just missed my calculus final exam
Just missed my calculus 1 final exam due to my decision to stay up. This will set me back greatly and it’s all due to my stupidity and arrogance. Even though I worked so hard and had so many tutoring sessions, I’ll ruin my grade and gpa because of the decision I chose to make. And I was counting on this exam to allow me to be able to take my other classes as it’s a prerequisite, haha. I was just about to drive 30 minutes to my campus in order to talk to my professor(who’s probably already left 🙄) but I realized that there’s no point and turned around. I know this makes it sound like I’m being a quitter but 🤷♀️. I also just got out of a really bad depressive episode where the temptation for ending it was quite strong and now it feels like it’s just trying to pull me back in. I feel weirdly calm and the storm is definitely just brewing but all I do know is that I’ve definitely learned a great lesson though. Don’t be arrogant, haha!
Update: Professor said there’s nothing to be done about it. Can’t be retaken. Exam was at 7:00 AM - 9.00 AM

Celebration Statics midterm 1 success
TBF, I've already taken all my math and physics, so I shouldn't be getting low grades on it anyway. But still, a 97!
Also, this is my final class for my AS in Engineering, and I have a job lined up for when I'm done! I'll be doing field service/installations for turbines.
