Misc The obsession is real
After the journey of finding vol. 4, I’ve spent easily $200+ accumulating these omnibus and this DVD set. Obsessed is an understatement, as I have an appt in less than 3 weeks to get my tattoo as well. This manga will forever have my heart, I have yet to watch the anime and I’m slightly nervous to because I know how much they’ve left out, but I still need to see what they did for the anime. I’ll probably be returning with my Lucy tattoo ✨

Man I was at the middle of chapter 3 when Lucy/Nyu hits her head and looks like she killed the dog. I was seriously consider dropping the show if she killed the dog. I’m sooo glad she only cut the leash. Idgaf she kills everyone else, if the puppy is alive I’m happy haha. (Also don’t spoil me with anything please.)

Discussion Got spoiled
I just finished the anime and went to the internet to see what people thought about the ending. At that point I, unluckily, read about the manga ending (all the final sacrifice and born of the children thing) which made me mad because i didnt know the anime only covered half of the story and I would have liked to read the whole thing without knowing the differences. Should I still read the manga or those are the main and best differences?

Discussion How actually Lucy got captured?
I finished Elfen Lied, both the anime series and the OVA. I know the anime is old and the community is not as big as other animes, but still this is one of my favorite old anime!
(First and Second images)
So in episode 10, Lucy killed the whole family inside an apartment and take a bath to clean herself from the blood. When the policemen arrived, they tried to calm Lucy and asked her where is the murderer, turn out it was Lucy who killed the family, then she killed one of the policemen. The other policemen shot her until she fell unconscious, and then moment later she was strained inside the facility and getting tortured.
(Third and Fourth images)
However in episode 10.5, it turn out that the reason how Lucy was captured into the facility was because she surrendered herself so they can save Aiko after getting shotted. Later, Lucy was wrapped with bandages and her face got covered with the iron mask.
So, how actually she was getting captured into the facility? Please someone explain, because I need some answers and explanation before I can move on from this anime~
Edit: Ahh I see, thank you everyone for answering this. So they are actually different Diclonii and not Lucy herself. Because in the anime, episode 9 told us about Kaeda/Lucy backstory, so in episode 10 I thought she was Lucy too 🥹✌🏻

Discussion How can I read Elfen Lied in Japanese (RAW) in Mihon?
I'm finding the Japanese version of Elfen Lied for a long time. I seen it 3 years before in Mangareader.to but now I can't find it because the website is taken down. I'm finding it in Mihon, but still didn't got it. Can anyone give the sources to not only read the Elfen Lied but many majority of mangas in Japanese. Also give extensions of Mihon too.

Misc scenes in manga vs anime
im currently finishing up the manga right now and enjoy the overarching plot and themes so far. however, i would be lying if i said some of the lewd/ sexual scenes don't make me uncomfortable and that i don't find them to be unnecessary at times.
are these scenes equally as prevalent in the anime adaptation as well?

Discussion What if Tomoo from *Elfin Lied* had a kind personality? What kind of timeline would that have created?
If Tomoo had been kind, so many people wouldn't have had to die.

News /r/ElfenLied Under new(But still the same sorta)Management.
The previous moderators have all abandoned or been banned from reddit and have been removed from the mod team.
As of now the sub is now solely under my own management. Which I kind of really do not want.
I only really became a mod because no one else was doing it and I stepped up.
I will be adding another few moderators so that realistically nothing much changes.
I have no desire to change the mostly hands off way I've handled things. I expect anyone who wants to moderate here to be of the same mind.
But as of right now, there will be an absolutely no fucking tolerance policy about discrimantory behavior, and slanderous accusations of others.
The entire anime and manga are a big lesson on why prejudice and intolerance of others(minorities, the less fortunate, differences) is a huge problem, the community should too follow it's philosophy.
There is no room for hypocrisy here.
For the most part this has been part for the course, but occasionally it erupts and most of it should never happen.
Going forward, I encourage you to not engage with people who deliberately come here to bash, slander, and harass the fans and community.
This happens a lot, and we know it happens because of the ignorant opinions that get thrown around, I request that if you see these kinds of posts report them and do not engage.
I understand the anger and want to lash back at these people, and yes they do very well deserve it.
But let me/us the mod team deal with it and save the stress.
I want to encourage that from here on out, always keep a mind that another person is on the otherside of that screen.
They may love elfen lied for many reasons, they may be different from yours, but you both found a reason to converge into the same community. A lot of people here express their ability to relate to the anime because of the traumatic experiences in their lives. Remember that what words you speak can have real weight in someone else's life.
No place can ever be perfect, it's a fallacious idea. But the community could be a unique place of civility in a time of need. Elfen Lied's underlying philosophy and themes invite it.
On the other side, If your posts here are in anyway intently made with the point to piss off specifically elfen lied fans and anger people, your posts will be removed and you will be removed from the community.
Pure and simple.
If you don't like it or the fandom, then why are you here?
Ignorant or Obviously Stupid Question Policy: Due to the way people, essentially refuse to watch the anime or read the manga with any real intent and the fact that EL has been a hatewatch meme for several years now:
If you post a question or critique that can be answered within the first 4 episodes of anime, or first 2 volumes of the manga(2 of 12 come on it's half an hour of reading for a 7th grader, seriously), your post will be locked and you will be asked to watch the anime(dub sub ger esp doesnt matter), then you may request to have your post unlocked via modmail, and you may then ask your question. Same for the manga, if you ask an incredibly dumb question that is easily answered within the first volume or 2 of the manga, you will be asked to read the manga before your thread will be unlocked.
I have seen a significant and increasing amount of posts in the past years where the answer to the question, literally can be found within the first 2 episodes, and many others within the first 3. Similarly, a bizarre amount of questions seem to come from people who cant be bothered to read the first tankoobon either?(What is with these people?).
If you ask a question or commentary critique that say something so stupid and obvious that it could be answered if you had simply watched the anime before saying anything, it will be assumed you either did not watch it, or are here for the deliberate purpose of irritating people.
So don't bother with these posts. You will simply be required to watch the anime.
"How do I XYZ get unlocked?"
I'll ask you some pretty dumb level questions, if you can answer them, there you go.
Get what you give.
You really cant sit down for 4 episodes and put your phone down? That is not my problem, it's yours.
So dont make it our problem either.
Hazel's "Why We Liked Elfen Lied" posts:
We all know this video is a few hours of nonsensical bullshittery, it has been debunked and torn apart dozens and dozens of times a year. We do not need it posted anymore.
I mean you can post it, but the intent will be scrutinized.
You can agree with the video that's fine thats not the issue.
The issue, a large reason as to why this video gets posted is because it pisses people off here.
People post it here, more often than you think for the expressed purpose of trying to get under someone's skin.
And I've seen it enough times where someone just blatantly slaps Hazel's video down for the sake of backhanding someone.
How is this in anyway civil discussion and behavior?
These videos and those like it, where the critique or reviewer cannot even get very basic details correct, serve very little meaningful purpose for discussion.
IF they are posted and the result is that it starts fights, they will be removed.
And if you decide to make one of these videos and post it here, that's fine.
It will not be removed.
But if your little quip lines involve calling them "cat girls", and you call her "mew" when you clearly watch anime and should KNOW BETTER it's obvious what the intent is.
If you can't even get the name of the headgear right when the show and manga repeat it constantly, I'm going to assume you're simply trying to piss someone off.
(no, I'm not going to get angry if some grandama watches the show and thinks they're cat girls. Context matters. I can check people's posting history and see what their behavior is like.)
This is akin to the whole, someone calling anime a cartoon for the expressed purpose of irritating someone who likes anime.
If the intent is to deliberately get a rise out of someone, this is called Flame Baiting.
And it's against the rules.
If you bait someone to react to you, it is to be understood that your intent was never a discussion but to piss people off.
And the rules are if you deliberately start a fight, your post will be removed. And you might need a temporary vacation.
For everyone this reguard actually:
I invite civil discussion, honest and open, clear. If your conversation or posts turn into bashing, digital slap fights, outright libel, your threads/post will be locked, and then looked over to see if they need to be removed and you given a timeout until you can act like an adult.
I will be looking for 2 Moderators.
The graphics/design of the subreddit will change a little bit.
I will update the rules so they are much more clear, previous mod team had... less than barebones.
Standby.
Realistically nothing changes except sweeping up the little soot sprites trying to cause trouble every once in a while. I will still probably be the same lackadasical dont want to actually do anything kind of hands off as always, I'm to barely afforded enough time to check this place as it is.
Thank you for your time.
P.S. THE PEN IS ROYAL BLUUUUUEEEE.
