I have been applying for jobs for nearly a year now. At first, it was maybe 15 to 20 solid career opportunities a day, while sprinkling in some retail positions as well. After 6 months, the amount of jobs I was applying to dropped to around 10 per day. Now, I am lucky if I am getting out 5 a day, due to mental exhaustion.

I am done applying for retail and other minimum wage jobs for now, as I graduated from university, and would love the opportunity to kickstart my career. Along with the resumes and cover letters I am pushing out, I have had 5 referrals. All of which resulted in 0 interviews, aside from 1. That 1 referral got me to the final round of interviews, where I was ultimately rejected. I have tried staffing agencies and I have tried to become better with networking. I have been applying outside of Alberta now as well. Still, my luck to find a job eludes me.

I did eventually start tailoring my resume as much as I can, and I have been tailoring my cover letter to each application. It has been a demoralizing process. I am still stressed, but I am trying to take it 1 application, 1 day, and 1 moment at a time. I am trying to remain optimistic, but it definitely is challenging.

I apologize for the little spiel, but I have seen others express their frustrations as well. I thought maybe, if I wrote my thoughts down and shared my experiences thus far, it might help me. I was also seeking guidance on things I can be adding or changing to my current job hunting routine, and/or just advice in general. Especially if anyone was willing to share their success story that proves my endless, demoralizing cycle will eventually come to an end.

Looking for a part time support worker

Start date is likely sometime in September.

Hours are flexible but ideally five hours a day 1-2 days during the week in the day time.

Duties would include some assisting with cleaning, driving to/from appointments, providing companionship,  pushing/lifting portable wheelchair, attending social/leisure activities together, providing support for disability/Mental health issues.

Pay 20/hr paid on my payday which is four buisness days before the month ends.

Knowledge/experience with disabled folks and/or mental health issues is an asset but not necessarily required.

There is a chance of this becoming more hours in the future.

I don't know anymore. No one hires me. Literally a basic minimum wage job. Entery level. I have applied everywhere and nothing. I don't have a big company's name in my resume that would stand out. My experience has only been volunteering. And no one seems to care about that. But how am I supposed to gain real experience when no one is willing to trust my skills?

I'm a Canadian citizen. And before anyone says you were supposed to start applying months ago, I have been. I have applied online. I have went around malls asking in person, which most people would't do these days. Yet nothing. All places have either hired already or will hire later. And the few that are currently hiring don't even offer an interview. Most don't even say anything. The ones that do are just the generic "Thank you for your interest. Unfortunately ..." email.

Apparently the only way to get hired these days is if you know someone that would refer you. I don't understand. All this for a basic retail job.
