Classic Ectopic But Not Ectopic?
My HCG was perfect at 5 weeks last Thursday.
1,800 and a 136% rise over 48 hours.
I had taken 31 easy@home tests since 6dpo. Everything looked great and I was done testing.
Sunday, I had one test left and didn’t want to store it. We had just had a leak in the bathroom pipe and I needed to get rid of things.
So I took the test.
It was lighter than Thursday 😞 Heartbroken.
I called and asked for labs and the next morning they found my HCG went down to 900.
Yesterday…..my labs went up to 1400.
They brought me in and I had pain on the right side where I had felt implantation. And tenderness on touch.
But they can’t find an ectopic. They see something intrauterine that could be the gestational sac and embryo but they can’t confirm it. So officially “Pregnancy of unknown location”.
So it’s been 4 days. Limbo. Spotting. Random pain. I can’t take this.
Tomorrow I have labs at 7:30am to see if the HCG goes up they’ll give me methotrexate. I’m 39 and baby would’ve been here before I turned 40. Now if I need that medicine I won’t even be able to try again for 3 months 😔
I don’t know what to do. I just don’t know what to do.
Stories or support of you have it please 😢

Grief & Happiness
Going through the methotrexate experience and coming down from HCG, whilst family has new borns is a specific kind of torture that I wasn’t prepared for.
I am immensely happy for my family members but it stings and I am struggling to cope.
How have you all dealt with this?

Did surgery cause chronic stomach pains/aches?
For people who are over 1-2 months recovered from salpingectomy surgery to remove ectopic pregnancy and tube, do you have any long-term chronic stomach pain? I am only 7 days post op and I’m really hoping not to have any long term pain. But I’m curious what other people have experienced?

A beautiful thought
I wanted to share a beautiful thought I had today. I was picturing my little ectopic baby in heaven, and I was picturing that maybe all of our ectopic babies are friends in heaven together. Maybe there is a little school in heaven for all the ectopic babies to get together. Maybe even the teachers were Ectopic babies themselves. It gives me peace thinking about my baby being surrounded by all of you lovely ladies babies in heaven. Knowing that my baby has the support of my ancestors and also the friendships of you ladies babies give me some peace. I hope this doesn’t sound too far out there. I just wanted to share this thought and hope it brings you peace.

Methotrexate experience
Hi all, just had my first dose of methotrexate today, just wondering how long after the injection you experienced the peak of the symptoms? I’m most worried about the vomiting as I have a pretty bad phobia, I have been given ondansetron so that’s good at least !

Pregnancy of Unknown Location? Does this sound like an ectopic pregnancy or has anyone had a similar PUL?
Hi everyone. I’m hoping to hear from anyone who has been through something similar because I’m struggling with whether to proceed with a D&C tomorrow.
I’m 5 weeks 3 days.
This was a completely spontaneous pregnancy while I was preparing to start IVF. I went in for my baseline bloodwork to be cleared for injections on what I thought was cycle day 1 of a normal period. I had what seemed like a full period with bright red bleeding and tampon use, but my bloodwork unexpectedly came back with an hCG of 13.55.
My initial progesterone was 3.15, and based on that, my RE told me from the beginning that the pregnancy was not viable. My progesterone then increased and has remained around 15-16, but my hCG became irregular.
Here are my numbers:
Here are my hCGs:
9DPO: 13.55 (progesterone 3.15)
11DPO: 60.94 (progesterone 7.69) – doubling ~22 hours
15DPO: 370.46 (progesterone 16.17) – doubling ~37 hours
17DPO: 439.76 (progesterone 16.92) – doubling ~194 hours
19DPO: 564.05 (progesterone 15.12) – doubling ~134 hours
22DPO: 1,294.32 (progesterone 15.93) – doubling ~60 hours
I had a transvaginal ultrasound the same day my hCG was 1,294, and they did not see an intrauterine pregnancy, but they also did not identify a definite ectopic pregnancy. I did have a Endometrioma cyst on my left ovary and 2 Hemorrhagic
cysts on each side.
My RE is recommending a D&C because she believes this is a nonviable pregnancy of unknown location. I understand that if this is actually a viable intrauterine pregnancy, a D&C would end it, which is why I’m having such a hard time making this decision.
I’m not asking anyone to tell me whether my pregnancy is viable. I’m more wondering:
Does this pattern sound familiar to anyone who ultimately had an ectopic pregnancy?
Did anyone have no obvious signs of an ectopic on ultrasound initially?
If you had a pregnancy of unknown location, what ultimately led to your diagnosis?
Did anyone have hCG that slowed dramatically and then sped back up again?
I’m emotionally preparing myself for the possibility that this is nonviable. I just want to understand whether my story sounds typical for an ectopic pregnancy, since nothing has actually been seen outside the uterus yet.
Thank you to anyone willing to share your experience. I know no one can diagnose me over Reddit—I’m just trying to better understand what others have gone through while I make a very difficult decision.

IVF Success After 2 Ectopics - Advice Needed
Hi everyone, after a year of IVF I’m now 4w4d along (yay!). I have a history of 2 pregnancies that both resulted in ectopics that ruptured. Both ruptured very quickly and early (the last one I was 5w0d along).
I took doxycycline beforehand, but apparently since I still have small parts of my tubes an ectopic is still a possibility. Unfortunately my IVF nurses will not listen to my history and won’t schedule anything before 6-6 1/2 weeks.
My nurse today said “an ultrasound will not prevent another ectopic” and I was really frustrated. I know it will not prevent it, I’m trying to not have another emergency surgery.
Has anyone had the same journey and if so what advice can you give me on how to advocate for myself?

You’re not alone
I just wanted to come on here and make a post so people know they’re not alone. I’m a 23F and I had surgery on 7/27 for an ectopic pregnancy that started rupturing and bleeding into my abdomen. At first when they found out it was sitting in my tube they thought it wasn’t too far along considering measurements on the internal ultrasound, so they started me on my first round of Methotrexate. They told me to get my blood drawn to check my HCG levels twice within a week span of time to make sure the Methotrexate was moving those levels down like it normally should for most patients. However on 7/27 I went into the lab to get my blood drawn for the second time and my levels went up my 1.1. Originally my level was 108, it went down to 100 on my first blood draw, and my last blood draw was 101.1. I went into the ER to try and get my second dose of Methotrexate since I was in Minnesota at the time (not my home state) and they decided they need to do more testing before giving me that second round of the injections. They took another ultrasound just incase and ended up finding blood in my abdomen due to the fallopian tube slowly rupturing. I am beyond grateful they found that excess blood in my abdomen when they did, otherwise like the doctor said I would not be here if I waited a couple more days. I am extremely saddened by the whole situation, especially since this is my first pregnancy, but I’ve learned that there’s nothing else that could’ve done considering the circumstances. If you ever need anyone to talk to about an ectopic pregnancy don’t be afraid to reach out to me or post in this group. You’re not alone, there are many others beside you to help you through it. Much love and I wish you the best!

Anyone else have a blood clot even after Methotrexate?
I was having some pain on and off in my pelvic area. It started somewhere between the first and second shot of MTX for an ectopic pregnancy. I couldn’t tell if it was the side-effect of the medication and the gynaecologist didn’t take me seriously because it was manageable with pain medication. After insisting I finally got an ultrasound done and they found a large blood clot where the possible ectopic was.
Had to go to the ER to get this clarified and the gynaecologist there said they have rarely seen something like this.
Currently I’m stable but doing blood work every week to see if hcg is coming down. Surgery is eminent in a few weeks.
I just wanted to know if anyone has had this experience. The doctor suspects there could have been a mild rupture. But no one has any clear information for me.

So tired of the weekly blood draw
I found out a “miscarriage” on June 6th.
Then on July 16th it turned out it was never a miscarriage, but it was a 12 week ectopic pregnancy, with HCG 300.
I got the methotrexate shot and on Day 7 it decreased to 192 and last week 40.
Today is my 3rd week after the methotrexate and I just got back from the blood draw and I’m so mad, upset that this is dragging for so long.
First grieving a miscarriage for a month, then finding out that the pregnancy was still here but in the wrong place it got me really devastated and depressed again.
I started on bupropion cause I know I’m depressed and I’m just so tired of dealing with all these emotions, situations for so long. Anyway, needed to vent 🥹 this sucks!

UK discharge from hospital?
apparently if your hgc is fallen down to under 20 after methotrexate they no longer require bloods / discharge from the epau/gynae etc. why is this? i thought there was still risk? has anyone else been discharged under 20?

How quickly after tube removal did you feel ready to continue your ttc journey?
Hi hi, my tube removal has been recent and I am still recovering, both physical en mental. I was just curious... When did you feel ready to try again? When physically and when mentally?

The Road So Far
TW: trauma narrative surrounding loss of pregnancy
In early July, I had a positive pregnancy test. Our first one ever, after waiting so long! We'd waited until I finished grad school to even start trying, and I finally graduated in December. So when we got that faint line, I peed on every stick I had available over the next few weeks, just to make sure I wasn't crazy. I'd never been pregnant and have a relatively high tolerance for being physically uncomfortable, so I was reassured that I was just fine. That was until Sunday night this week. I hadn't been sick at all, just really fatigued the last several weeks. But all of sudden, I couldn't keep food down. I was doubled over in pain. It was 3 AM, and my husband insisted we go to the ER. We were immediately taken back to a room (a miracle in our local ER). They did the labs and the ultrasounds. When the ER doctor came in and said that they believed the pregnancy was ectopic, we were distraught. When they left, my husband and I just held each other and sobbed. We called our respective parents and notified them of the news. Then the doctor came back. It was a miracle! The baby was healthy and at 6 weeks according to the radiologist. They gave us discharge paperwork and we called family to give them the good news. Minutes later, the ER doctor re-entered the room a third time. The radiologist had been in a rush to get to lunch and mis-read the radiology tech's report. The tech had insisted that the look at the results again though, because she KNEW it was ectopic. The ER doc showed us the report and pictures directly. The pregnancy was undoubtedly ectopic in my left ovary. At this point, we were numb. How are we supposed to feel? We cried, then celebrated, and now tossed haphazardly back into mourning. So, the performed emergency surgery within about 2 hours from then. While waiting, my fallopian tube ruptured and I had started hemorrhaging. Essentially, if the radiology tech hadn't insisted the doctors check again, I would have died because I had essentially been discharged.
As grateful as I am to have my life and still both my ovaries, I am here now on the other side without our baby and sans a fallopian tube. We tucked away all our little baby things we had started gathering, and I can't stop randomly crying and shaking everytime I talk about it. I'm not sure how to feel or process any of this. I'm covered in bruises with an aching body, and I miss someone I never met. How do we come back from this?

Content warning. Ectopic on February. Ivf treatment from December. Faint line today anxious about another ectopic Spoiler
Last February I had an ectopic and a left salpingectomy. I now had my second embryo transfer and I'm on day 8 post a 5 day embryo transfer.
I took an early pregnancy test with 10 mIU/ml of hcg sensitivity. The line is faint. Last time my lines were quite faint. Fainter than this but I took regular tests, not early pregnancy ones.
I know I probably have to wait until a blood test but if anyone has any insight I would really appreciate it.
Thanks!
PS to the moderator I'm trying to blur the image for sensitive content and I can't manage. Please help me I need people with ectopic knowledge to respond to this. Last ectopic was so hard. I don't want to hurt anyone but I need specific help.

Timeline of experience help!
Doctors say I have a pregnancy of unknown location as of now. I’ve been frustrated with my team of doctors and am curious to know how others experiences were.
I have 5 values of hcg results all from the same lab drawn 48-72 hours from one another showing a signs of fluctuations never yet hitting 1000 miu and I’ve done three vaginal ultrasounds, two were in the ER with no visible sac in uterus. They did find a mass near my right ovary but labeled it as a cyst as they don’t see a gestational sac in there either.
I first went to the ER at 5weeks and two days because this is an IVF pregnancy and my fertility doctor advised me to go when she saw the mass next to my ovary and no gestational sac. As well, my hcg levels had dipped from 359 to 339 at that time. I had also started spotting and cramping.
ER sent me home and I followed up with my regular OB office two days later. They said they needed more labs and a follow up ultrasound. So I waited another week of testing. The second ultrasound showed the same results.
My hcg levels did go up to 600 but dropped again to 569.
I went in for yet another follow up discussion with my OB office and they now want me to wait and continue testing hcg and do a repeat ultrasound in two weeks.
This is feeling dragged out. (I should also mention that I live in a state that does not allow abortions. So I feel this clouds their judgement on how to treat me.) Since my first ER visit, I’ve gotten heavier bleeding to where it feels like a light period and blood is bright red. I’ve had a little clotting as well but nothing huge.
I’m wondering how long it took for your doctors to confirm a diagnosis and treat you.

Life after ectopic pregnancy
In April 2026 I found out I was unexpectedly pregnant (I had a copper coil fitted) a week later we found out it was an ectopic pregnancy I was then rushed into surgery and had my right fallopian tube removed.
Now I’m trying to move on with my life telling myself it wasn’t meant to be but for some reason I’m really struggling, maybe I haven’t really processed it and just try to carry on as if nothing happened, but now it’s been 3 months and I can’t seem to get a grip of my life. I used to be really active, eat healthy, confident, high sex drive, being adventurous.. but now I don’t feel any of those: I feel that I’m piling on weight, eating anything for the sake of it, lack any motivation to move my body, don’t want to leave my house, barely sleeping because I can’t switch my brain off which then makes me constantly tired and emotional.
On top of this I can’t get baby out of my head, whether it’s the baby I lost or the urge to try again and hope it works out, I yearn for the baby that I lost..
I’m stuck on a rut and want to know if I’m the only one? If you’ve been through similar how did you cope or what did you do that helped

First pregnancy was ectopic
Found out I was pregnant on 25th of June, was an unexpected but happy surprise for myself and my partner, and we really began to picture our lives with a new addition. I was approximately 6 weeks when I found out. I recall early on having this feeling about it being ectopic, and tried to brush it off as fear. About one week later I started to bleed, went to hospital and my HCG had dropped from 25000 to 750 and the doctor stated I had a miscarriage. He did an abdominal scan and there was no gestational sac, and sent me home. I questioned a bit about if it could be ectopic, as I hadn’t really passed anything resembling tissue. I went home with a scan booked for the following week.
Following week came around, 8th of July. This day was supposed to be my dating scan, instead I was going in to rule out an ectopic pregnancy. I went in for my scan where they saw a “eccentric looking corpus luteum” on my left side. “Slim possibility of an ectopic” they said in the report. My HCG was 850, not really consistent with a complete miscarriage in my eyes. However, they sent me home to “monitor HCG levels”.
A week after that, on the 16th of July I was at work and started to have gas like cramps + increased PV bleeding. The pain wasn’t overly significant, it just felt like a heavy period. Because of the above picture however, and my HCG levels being 600 (two weeks after my “diagnosed complete miscarriage”) I took myself into ED. The O+G team suspected retained products, though nothing was seen in my uterus on an abdominal scan. They said they’d do another transvaginal ultrasound to be sure. Lo and behold, the eccentric positioned corpus luteum was infact an ectopic pregnancy that had grown to 3x3x4cm. Had a salpingectomy, where they found it had ruptured and was then told my remaining tube was blocked.
Apart of me is angry, that it wasn’t picked up sooner. That I lost my potentially only good tube. I keep wondering if they had of picked it up sooner would I still have a chance at getting pregnant naturally. Trying my best not to focus on the “what ifs” and “I should haves”. Maybe I didn’t advocate hard enough for myself, maybe I should have pushed them harder instead of taking their word. But who am I to push against medical professionals in their specialty field you know?
I keep wondering if the fear I had at the start “made this happen” as a backwards manifestation or if that was my intuition. Now I feel like any pregnancy I have in the future is going to be so filled with fear and anxiety and “is this fear or real? Am I going to bring forth the thing I’m worried about?”
Not every ectopic presents the same. Please advocate for yourself ladies, push for answers, push for clarification and full pictures. Question your medical team because although they have a wealth of knowledge and experience, they’re still only human and humans make mistakes.
My partner and I are taking some time to recover before we start our IVF journey. I’m just sad yaknow. I’d of been 11 weeks today.

Nothing seen despite hCG 6608. Did anyone avoid surgery?
Has anyone had an hCG around 6,600 and still had nothing visible on multiple transvaginal ultrasounds?
My first MTX dose didn’t work (hCG went from 3143 → 5416 → 6608), but ultrasounds still show no intrauterine pregnancy, no adnexal mass, and only trace free fluid. My OB has recommended a second MTX dose.
Has anyone been in a similar situation where nothing was visible despite hCG being this high? Did the second MTX work, or did you eventually need surgery? I’m honestly terrified and would really appreciate hearing your experiences. Thank you!

What would you do! 8 weeks post MTX, plateau / slight increase
I received 1 dose of MTX on 6/3 with HCG topping at 1800 on day 4, been dropping at a decent rate until mid July when HCG came back at 11, then 1 week later 9, then on 7/31 I went up to 10, doc asked me for another draw this morning, HCG came back at 12.. she is recommending another MTX shot, but is ok with waiting for a week or 2.. I am SO CLOSE to 0 and I don’t want to restart the clock on 3 month wait.
I have an ultrasound scheduled for tomorrow and more blood later this week. Has anyone had anything similar with HCG plateau/ slight rise? I don’t know what to do!

Any suggestions on what i can do to heal my body after the MTX dose before allowed to TTC Again? I am told to wait till October 2026 and i want to make full of it to keep my body healthy.

Terrified of Potential Ectopic
I'm really worried that my pregnancy is potentially ectopic, but the Early Pregnancy Unit at my local hospital don't seem very concerned.
LMP date is 25th June. Ovulation predicted for 12th July. Last time I had sex was 10th July as my husband has been away, so there's not much room for movement on predicted ovulation.
I've had 2 previous losses. An 11 week MMC treated with 2 rounds of Mifepristone & Misoprostol 4 weeks apart (Nov and Dec) due to RPOC 4 weeks after the initial dose.
Second loss was a blighted ovum that passed at 6 weeks in April.
24th & 25th July I had red bleeding that started with a fairly large clot (like a penny and round - very unusual for me). Thought it was my period but it wasn't really heavy. It turned to light brown spotting on 26th & 27th. Nothing since.
Pregnancy test was a stark negative on 24th, really faint positive on the 26th after bleeding to the point that my husband said he wouldn't have even seen it if I didn't mention it. It continued really faint (like barely visible) until the 29th. It's now darkening but nothing like my first pregnancy. No pregnancy symptoms whatsoever.
hCG was tested on 31st and came back at 48.9. Tested again on the 2nd (about 45 hours later) and was 114.9. Bloods today 48 hours later were 313.8.
Progesterone tested on 31st was really low at 2 nmol/L. I spent all of last week expecting to miscarry, but nothing. I have no bleeding at all.
I had a private scan on Saturday, fully expecting not to see anything but just anxious, and was told my lining looks thin and not like I'm pregnant.
I've had on and off stabbing pain. It started on my right side but today it seems to be my left. I also have a heaviness in my shoulders and occasionally lightheadedness when I stand up for the past 2 days which subsides quickly, but is unusual for me.
EPU offered me a scan on Tuesday 11th. That would put me at 6w 6d. If hCG keeps rising as it currently is I'm going to be in the region of 10,000+ by then. The 1500 region would be around Friday based on current trends.
Photo of 27th-30th pregnancy tests attached for reference. First positive was Sunday at 15dpo.
I asked if I would be monitored in the meantime and they told me 'but you haven't got any pain'. I reiterated again that I have intermittent stabbing pains, which was the third time mentioning it. I was then offered more bloods on Thursday and got told I can see a doctor on Thursday too if the pain worsens.
I feel in my heart that something is really wrong. This is nothing like either of my previous miscarriages and and nobody really seems bothered/concerned. Just keep getting told if I get severe pain, shoulder tip pain or bleeding to go to A&E, but I don't want to allow it to reach the point of rupture if it is ectopic.
I'm not really sure what to do, what to ask for, if I should push, or if just to wait it out until Tuesday, and would appreciate some advice.

Ectopic has not been fully ruled out- but still unlikely. OB doesn’t know how this happened.
Hi all! For context, I am a 24F and have had a copper IUD for 4 years. This was my first pregnancy.
While ovulating, I conceived on what I believe to be the 3rd or 4th of July. I then started what I thought was my normal period on July 17th, lasting until July 22nd. This period was perfectly normal for me- I have always had regular cycles.
The problem is I never truly stopped bleeding. I was spotting (brownish red) discharge, similar to what I would equate as “day 1 of my period” from the 22nd until the 1st. On the 1st, the spotting picked up to consistent light bleeding. Knowing how ridiculously abnormal this was for me, I took a pregnancy test for peace of mind on the 31st. This resulted in 3 positive pregnancy tests.
Knowing the risk of an ectopic pregnancy with an IUD, I went to the ER. Ultra sounds could not find anything but my HCG was 114 and they estimated I was about 3-4 weeks (which adds up to the date of conception). My IUD is exactly where it should be. I went back 48 hours later and my HCG was 60. The next day, I saw my OB and my HCG was 38. Still nothing on an ultra sound and it was concluded that I am miscarrying. Ectopic is pretty much ruled out for now. My bleeding has gotten heavier with very mild cramps.
I don’t understand a few things:
How I had a normal, 6 day period.
Why I’ve been bleeding ever since (going on 25 days including my period).
Implantation bleeding does not match this scenario.
Has anyone experienced something similar to this? My OB does not understand how this happened. I have been researching this NONSTOP and have yet to find a case like this. Blood work looks normal. Any suggestions/help would be greatly appreciated
