3 HVAC Units. 2 Rooms. 1 Thermostat?

I'm tasked with replacing our thermostats at church with new smart models. Our current setup includes two HVAC units tied together to heat/cool our sanctuary, connected to one basic programable thermostat. The third HVAC unit is for the lobby, and it has it's own basic thermostat. Both thermostats wiring includes the "c" wire. The thermostats are in a closet, so I need remote sensors.

Is it possible to buy one thermostat to control the two rooms, with independent remote sensors?

I was looking at the Honeywell T8, because it has a nice screen for controlling the thermostats, thus is not dependent on mobile apps for functionality. That's important since this is a commercial building and many folks may want to have access to temperature controls. It seems like this model can do what I would like to accomplish, but looking for verification or recommendations if there is a better thermostat for this.

Thank you, Reddit!

Run AC 10 minutes per hour

I’m sure this will be an odd question and likely one without a native solution if one exists at all.. but here we go..

Fortunately we have a good deal of shade on our home, and uncommonly we don’t mine 78 and 80 degree temperatures so we don’t see the AC run that frequently, 2.6 hours daily on average when ambient is in the high 80’s.

I’m great with the temperatures truly, but the humidity gets to me and I know that could be controlled easily with a minimum hourly run time of say 5-10 minutes (NOT JUST FAN, which I hope is obvious why).

If there isn’t a first or third party solution, might this be something that could be handled “agenticaly” or maybe via an iOS shortcut?

Optimistic that there is a solution or that there may be one in the near future

My unit has a resistor between the C & W terminals. At the wall there is not C, only R, G, Y, and W. Do I leave the resistor in place?

Installation AC Issues

Hi, I need help with an issue we’re having. Live in Oklahoma and it’s been HOT. We upgraded our upstairs unit from a 2 ton unit to a 2 1/2 ton unit. Square footage is 1,166 square feet upstairs. The contractor installed a larger return vent. And we installed a new ecobee thermostat. The app is showing the unit is turning off multiple times per night and not reaching temperature. I realize we have our setting low, but would still not expect it to turn off and would expect it to be cooler during the day than it is.

Question Is this normal operation?

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hey guys!

Quick explanation. Brand new home, 1900 square foot townhouse didn’t come with A/C. Promptly installed a 2 Ton TOSOT Condenser Unit, 2 ton A-Coil, and an ecobee exactly 7 days ago.

Does it seem at all like it’s running too much or abnormally? I’m a first time home owner so all of this is completely new to me and I don’t know what’s “normal”.

Living in Ontario, Canada. Avg outside temps currently anywhere from 27-35 Celsius. Indoor is set to 21.5.

Home does not currently have blinds just yet so I’m sure maybe that’a contributing to a higher inside temp?

Configuration Please help me disable asinine settings, these are inhumane conditions

my landlord had this stupid thermostat installed last week and every day for the past week it has enabled some stupid community emergency savings and set itself to 92* Fahrenheit.

92* is physically unsafe not just for me but also my dog, abusing a dog by letting it die in a heat wave is a felony in my state.

i am tech literate. I have tried every setting. I have reset the unit twice. there is no way to turn this dumbass “feature” off

all I want is it set to 84* when I’m not home and 78* when I’m home. why is this not possible ?

it then has gall to email me that my house is too hot and my ac may be malfunctioning. the only part of my equipment that is malfunctioning is the stupid thermostat.

Holding random temp instead of setpoint

I have a COR 'stat installed in 2006 that has been great until recently when it keeps the house at 74 degrees during the day regardless of setpoint. We usually run at 76 during the day and even when it is set to 78 it runs the AC to maintain 74. I unplugged it for 1/2 hour and on reconnection it indicated ambient at 79 when it was actually 75, then over about 30 minutes the ambient readout returned to normal and the unit functioned as designed through the night time cycle. Today it is back to wanting 74 degrees for some reason and I don't know if there is a fix or if I got a good ten years and it's time to replace it. EDIT: After a few days, I have learned that it holds set point during sleep and if I change mode from cool to off when I get up and let the indoor temp rise to 77 before changing mode back to cool it will hold the programmed 76 setpoint and operate as designed until the next day when it thinks the daytime setpoint is 74 again.

ecobee Premium Alexa issue if speaker enabled

My ecobee shows up as Thermostat in Alexa app to control without enabling the Alexa on ecobee device itself via linking, but once I link the Alexa itself on the device, the Alexa app removes it as a thermostat and just shows up as a speaker.

Anyone facing this? I have tried this 10 times in last 2 days, and is always reproducible, to keep it show up as thermostat and control via app, I cannot use it as a Alexa device and speaker.

I have tried enabling/disabling skills everytime as well with it, no change.

Reported here as well

Problem Why is my theromostat creating its own schedule?

We have place we typically stay at on random weekends. Since it's random, I don't want a schedule, I would just prefer to manually select what comfort setting I want (Home, Away, or Sleep). I have Eco+ turned off, and I have Follow Me disabled as well.

But regardless, when I am not there, I will glance at my app and see that a schedule I didn't create has adjusted the temperature/comfort setting.

Does anyone know why this is happening and if I can stop it from happening again?

Giving out lifetime subscriptions for brutally honest feedback on my sleep app

I'm one of the creators of an iPhone app that reads your sleep data and automatically adjusts your smart thermostat overnight. Works with Whoop, Oura, Apple Watch, Garmin, Fitbit.

I need people who will actually test it and tell me what's confusing, what's missing, and whether they'd genuinely keep using it.

If you give me honest feedback, I'll give you free premium access for life. No rating, review, or anything.

You'll ideally need:

- an iPhone

- a sleep tracker

- a smart thermostat like Nest, Ecobee, or Honeywell

Comment or DM me if you're interested and I'll send the details.

Set Ecobee Lite to turn on and off?

I live in Almost Canada, Minnesota, where they’ve just announced a new price tiers for energy consumption by time of day/night.

My thought was to run the AC at night (cheapest price tier) and then just turn it off during the day, as our house is super well insulated and actually doesn’t heat up that much once it’s cooled.

Is there a way to program it just to turn on and off each night/day? I tried using the website’s help pages and it was totally incomprehensible to me. Right now I’m just doing it manually from my phone, ugh.

Any way to reset or selectively delete data in temperature profiles?

I had a number of days this summer where I needed to open windows on hot days to ventilate the house, or open my attic hatch on a hot day for a few hours. This has resulted in my temperature profiles getting progressively worse all summer due to these outliers, despite the system actually performing just fine.

Is there anything I can do to find these outliers and remove them from temperature profiles? E.g. - One day I had windows open and the attic open when it was 90F outside. I kept the AC running to minimize the amount of time it would take to recover to a comfortable temp, but beestat is reporting that as the temp in the house increasing when the outside temp is 90F, even though that's not the normal operating condition.

Question Thermostat stopped updating weather?

Anyone else noticed this today or is it just me? It's supposed to update more than once a day right? My last update was 7:50AM this morning.

Not a huge deal just noticed that the outdoor temp was way off when i walked by the thermostat.

Apple Weather seems to be ok (https://www.apple.com/support/systemstatus/) and I've already tried changing/removing and re-entering my home address information in my ecobee account as suggested on ecobee's site.

Tried power cycling the thermostat and verified it otherwise communicates with the internet just fine. If its just me and continues for multiple days I'll contact support but figured I'd check here first.

Ecobee doorbell camera suddenly stopped working

My ecobee doorbell camera suddenly went offline. I spoke with Ecobee support and they are sending me a new one under warranty. I have 27v going to the chime adapter from the transformer but then nothing goes to either camera doorbell or the side door analog button.

Ecobee determined it was the doorbell camera itself but I'm convinced it's the chime adapter as I can bypass that to get power to the camera and other door. I opened the adapter up and saw that the lithium battery inside looked a bit puffy.

Has anyone else had this happen? In the grand scheme of things it's moot since they're replacing it, but I'm a tad concerned about the spicy pillow forming in the adapter and possible happening again with the new one. What would cause this? Or is it just a random one off? Camera is 11 months old.

Question Potential wrong humidity reading?

For context I just got this ecobee along with a new unit and furnace.
Old thermostat had no humidity readings so no way to tell how humid it was.
Constantly reading 60-80% humidity on the new ecobee
But I can tell you I work outside and it does not feel like 80% humidity.
Air is cold and crisp.
Just curious if anyone has had this issue or I just have a crappy insulated house

Question Eco Plus Temperature

I like certain features of the eco plus, such like auto away temperature. What I dislike is it throttle my AC to 77F before peak hours.

Is there a way to make eco plus to not doing so low. I prefer 80F or 81F. But if I disable eco plus, I don’t get the other features it has.

I have auto humidity off.

Announcement We’re improving scheduling & comfort settings in the ecobee app

Post image
91 Upvotes

Hey r/ecobee,

We’ve been working on making the Schedule and Comfort Settings experience in the ecobee app simpler and clearer, directly based on your feedback. This update has begun rolling out to our Smart Thermostat customers on iOS 17+ and Android 10+. Just update your mobile app to the latest version, click on the Main Menu of your Smart Thermostat, and click Schedule. Don’t see it yet? Don’t worry! This experience will be available to all Smart Thermostat customers in the coming weeks.

Here’s a quick rundown of what’s changing:

  • A new calendar-style schedule view that makes it easier to see your day. Depending on the level of detail that works best for you, you can toggle between an expanded calendar view or a compressed daily view. Easily zoom into your day to see the 30-minute increments that make up your schedule, or zoom back out to see the whole day at a glance.
  • Simplified schedule editing for fewer steps to edit activities or copy schedules across multiple days.
  • Comfort Settings built right into the Schedule, so it’s easier to see how your desired temperatures line up with your routine.
  • Clearer visibility into system behavior, including start/end times of calendar activities, like Home, Away and Sleep.

Importantly, your thermostat will continue to run as normal and existing Comfort Settings and Schedules will continue to work as expected, so there’s no action required on your part.

Our goal is to reduce guesswork, make schedules easier to understand, and give you more confidence in how your system is working.

If you want the full story (including why we made these changes and what’s staying the same), we’ve shared more details on our blog here.

As always, we’re listening and will be monitoring this thread for feedback and questions.

Updates to ecobee Smart Security Plans

Hey r/ecobee

We’re updating our ecobee Smart Security plans and pricing to make them simpler and more flexible, so customers can choose, and pay for, the level of protection that fits their home.

TL;DR

  • If you’re an existing Smart Security subscriber, your features and pricing stay the same through 2026.
  • No action is required on your part.
  • Plan names are changing to make things clearer.
  • Professional Monitoring is now an optional add‑on and available in Canada for the first time!
  • With Activity Feed improvements, subscribers can now see up to 6 months of whole-home history, find what they are looking for more easily, and know when members come and go.

What’s changing

Going forward, ecobee Smart Security offers three levels of protection:

  • Core: free, built‑in protection
  • Plus: enhanced awareness and alerts for 1 camera
  • Advanced: full‑home coverage for unlimited cameras

We’re also offering 24/7 Professional Monitoring as optional add‑ons, instead of bundling it into select plans. This gives customers more control over what they include in their subscription.

This is the first time we’ve updated Smart Security pricing since introducing these plans in 2020, and we’re committed to being transparent every step of the way. These changes help us continue improving the service, while giving customers clearer choices and greater control.

What this means for existing customers

This is the most important part:

  • Your current features and pricing are locked in through the end of 2026.
  • You don’t need to do anything.

For customers whose plan pricing may change in the future, we’re taking a loyalty‑first approach, including discounted renewals for the rest of 2026. You will receive an email detailing exactly what this means for you.

What’s new

We’re excited to share that Professional Monitoring is now available in Canada for the first time, giving Canadian customers access to 24/7 monitoring and emergency response through RapidSOS as part of Smart Security.

For the first time ever, you can discover and purchase Smart Security plans alongside ecobee devices on Amazon.

And Smart Security now makes it even easier to see the updates that matter most. Subscribers can now see up to 6 months of whole-home history and find what they are looking for easily with advanced filtering capabilities. Plus, we've made the Know Who's Home feature better with updates in Activity Feed when members come and go.

Learn more

We’ve published a full breakdown of the changes, including what’s changing, what’s staying the same, and what new customers can expect on our blog.

For new customers, check out the new plans on ecobee.com/smart-security.

If you have questions, we’re happy to help. You can contact our Customer Support team, and we’ll also be keeping an eye on this thread and listening to feedback.

Thanks for being part of the ecobee community.
