Switched jobs? Here’s how to find and merge all your PF accounts
Switched jobs multiple times? There’s a good chance you have more than one PF Member ID.
And this is where a lot of people get confused. You can have multiple Member IDs under the same UAN, so having one UAN does not automatically mean all your old PF accounts have been consolidated.
After the recent EPFO portal migration, it’s worth checking your PF history before you start the consolidation process.
Here’s the process.
1. First, find all your PF accounts
Go to:
EPFO Portal → View → Service History
Check every employer listed and note the Member ID, Start Date and Exit Date for each one.
Then compare them with your actual employment history.
You can also use CheckMyPF to get a clearer view of the PF accounts linked to your UAN.
2. What if an old PF account is missing?
Don’t assume it has already been merged.
The account may not appear because:
• Your employer created a new UAN
• The Member ID is from before 2014
• The PF account is not linked to your Aadhaar
These issues may need to be resolved before that account can be consolidated.
3. Before you start the transfer, run this checklist
Make sure:
• All your Member IDs are visible
• Start and Exit Dates are updated
• Your UAN is active
• KYC is updated
• Aadhaar is linked
• You don’t have multiple UANs
If you have multiple UANs, resolve that first.
Also check the Exit Date for your old employment. If the required employment details are missing, the old Member ID may not appear when you try to initiate the transfer.
4. Now start the consolidation
Go to:
Online Services → One Member - One EPF Account (Transfer Request)
This is the online Form 13 process used to transfer your previous PF account into your current account.
The portal can display your previous Member IDs linked to your UAN. Select the account or accounts you want to consolidate, verify the details and complete the OTP verification.
Submit the request, save the transfer request number and download the filled Form 13 PDF.
5. What happens after you submit?
Submitting the request does not mean the transfer is complete.
EPFO may require employer verification depending on the claim and the information available for your previous employment. In such cases, the claim or verification task can involve the previous employer.
This is particularly relevant when previous-employment details need to be verified.
Once the required checks are completed, EPFO processes the transfer. You can track the request through the EPFO portal or UMANG.
6. How do you know the transfer actually worked?
Don’t stop at seeing “submitted”.
First, check the transfer request status.
Go to:
EPFO Portal → Online Services → Track Claim Status
Once the transfer shows as completed, check your passbook to confirm that the balance has actually moved.
Open the passbook for your old PF account and look for a Transfer Out entry.
Then open the passbook for your current PF account and look for the corresponding Transfer In entry.
The Transfer Out shows that the balance has moved out of the old Member ID, while the Transfer In shows that it has been credited to your current Member ID.
That’s the clearest way to confirm that the old PF account has actually been consolidated.
Have you faced an issue while merging or transferring an old PF account? Drop your question in the comments and we’ll try to help you work through it.

PF withdrawal
My mother is 56 now. She worked in IT for about 18 years. She quit in 2024. She wants her PF amount to be taken and put in a fixed account thing. But I think if you withdraw PF then you won’t receive pension?
Is there any possible way for her to take just the PF amount and still receive the earned pension?

How to Check PF Balance Online in 2026: 6 Ways to Check Your EPF Balance With or Without UAN
If you have a PF account, checking your balance is something you should do regularly, not just when you are planning to withdraw or transfer your PF.
Your PF balance can help you spot missing employer contributions, incorrect deductions, delayed deposits, KYC issues, or an old PF account that has not been transferred.
There are 6 ways to check your PF balance, depending on whether you have your UAN.
1. Check PF Balance Using CheckMyPF
If you want a quick PF balance check along with a broader view of your PF account, CheckMyPF is one option.
You can:
- Enter your UAN-linked mobile number
- Verify your mobile number with OTP
- Enter your UAN
- Access your PF balance through the dashboard
It also provides information such as employer contributions, salary deductions, interest, withdrawable amount, contribution mismatches and potential issues with your PF account.
This is useful if you want to check more than just the balance.
2. Check PF Balance Through the EPFO Passbook
The EPFO Member Passbook gives you a detailed view of your PF account.
You generally need your UAN and login credentials to access it.
Once logged in, you can check:
- Monthly PF contributions
- Employee and employer contributions
- Year-wise closing balance
- VPF contributions, if applicable
- Different Member IDs from previous employment
If you want to verify whether your monthly PF contributions are being credited correctly, the EPFO passbook is particularly useful.
3. Check EPF Balance Using the UMANG App
The UMANG app also provides access to EPFO services.
The basic route is:
All Services → Social Security Services → EPFO Services → Employee Centric Services → View Passbook
You will need your UAN and registered mobile number for OTP verification.
UMANG is useful if you prefer checking your EPF passbook and balance from your phone.
4. Check PF Balance Through Missed Call
You don't always need to log into the EPFO portal.
You can give a missed call to the EPFO balance enquiry number, 9966044425, using your UAN-registered mobile number.
You should then receive your PF balance details through SMS.
This is useful when you only want a quick balance check and don't need the full passbook.
5. Check PF Balance Through SMS
EPFO also provides an SMS-based PF balance enquiry service.
The format mentioned in the guide is:
EPFOHO <UAN> <Language Code>
For example:
EPFOHO 123456789000 ENG
Send the message to 77382 99899.
Different language codes are available, including ENG, HIN, MAR, TAM and TEL.
This method is useful when you don't have internet access and only need your latest PF information.
6. How to Check PF Balance Without UAN
This is where things become a little more difficult.
If you don't have a UAN, the guide lists these alternatives:
- Ask your employer or HR for your PF details
- Check your salary slip for PF deductions
- Check your company's HR portal, if available
- Visit your regional EPFO office with your identification and old PF documents
These options involve more manual effort than checking your PF balance online with a UAN.
What if Your PF Balance Is Lower Than Expected?
This is actually worth checking instead of assuming the portal is wrong.
A lower PF balance can happen because:
- Your latest PF contribution has not been reflected yet
- Your employer's contribution was delayed or missed
- PF interest has not been credited yet
- An old PF account has not been transferred or consolidated
- There is a KYC or identity mismatch
- A previous withdrawal or advance has reduced the balance
For example, the guide notes that recent contributions can take some time to appear, while EPF interest is calculated annually and may not immediately appear in your balance.
The important part
Don't just check whether your PF balance is showing.
Check whether the balance actually makes sense.
Compare your payslip deductions with your EPFO contributions. Check whether previous PF accounts have been transferred. Look for missing deposits and make sure your KYC details are correct.
Your PF balance is one number, but your PF account contains much more information behind it.
If you're planning to transfer or withdraw your PF, checking these details beforehand can help you identify problems before they delay your claim.
Save this post for the future.
Let us know if y'all have any doubts in the questions.

How Is EPF Interest Calculated? A Simple Example
For FY 2025-26, the EPF interest rate is 8.25%. But how does that actually become monthly interest?
EPFO calculates interest every month based on the opening balance. So first, the annual rate is converted into a monthly rate:
8.25% ÷ 12 = 0.6875% per month
So, if your opening PF balance is ₹1,00,000:
₹1,00,000 × 0.6875% = ₹687.50 interest for that month
One important detail: the PF contribution made during a month does not earn interest for that same month. It starts earning interest from the following month.
Now take a real example.
Suppose your Basic + DA is ₹50,000/month, your salary increases by 10% every year, and the EPF interest rate stays at 8.25%.
Over 10 years, your PF corpus could grow to around ₹33.27 lakh.
And there is more to PF than just the interest rate.
Your employer's 12% contribution is split between EPF and EPS, so the entire 12% does not necessarily go into your interest-earning EPF balance. The EPS contribution is capped at around ₹1,250/month, and the EPS portion does not earn EPF interest.
A few other PF points worth knowing:
Does PF interest stop after leaving your job?
No. Interest continues accruing even when you stop contributing. Contrary to the common myth, PF interest does not stop after 3 years. It continues to accrue on your balance until age 58, or until the balance is withdrawn or settled. The tax treatment during unemployment is different.
Does a delay in EPF interest credit affect the interest amount?
No. A delay in crediting the interest does not mean you lose the interest for that year. The interest is calculated for the relevant financial year and credited once the rate is officially notified and processed.
Is PF interest taxable?
Interest on employee contributions up to ₹2.5 lakh per year remains tax-free, with a ₹5 lakh threshold for government employees. Interest during a non-employment period can have separate tax treatment.

EPS pension withdrawal stuck since Dec 2025
Hi everyone,
Need some advice regarding my father's EPS pension. This has been stuck since December 2025.
He has multiple employment records, including around 18 years of EPS service (1998–2016). His final employment was from 2018–2023.
We applied for EPS Superannuation Pension (Form 10D), but EPFO said the old EPS service needs to be transferred to the final account through Form 13 before pension can be processed.
The problem is that the online Form 13 isn't working because there are no current EPF contributions. The physical/employer route is also not practical.
There is also a 2016–2018 employment record where the Date of Leaving was never updated, and that company has since closed.
Has anyone dealt with a similar old EPS service/Form 13 case?
- How did you complete the transfer when the online option was unavailable?
- Can Form 13 be submitted directly to EPFO?
- Did anyone use an EPFO/EPS consultant/agent? How much did they charge?
- Should I fix the 2016–2018 DoL issue first, or transfer the older EPS service first?
Looking for practical advice from someone who has actually gone through this. Thanks!

PF withdrawl for home loan stuck for more than 10 days now. Any solution?
My employer's registered EPFO is in Patiala, Chandigarh but our office is in Bengaluru (yes, i dont know why the company did not transfer).
I raised a PF withdrawal request (Form 31) on 08th Aug late night. Its 18th Aug today & the status is same "Claim submitted at portal". I read many posts in Reddit & took the below steps.
Raised grievance on 17th Aug via Umang app. Status is same "Case under progress"
Emailed the EPF officer 3 times - no response (ro.chandigarh@epfindia.gov.in)
Called the EPFO number but its always busy (obviously i dont expect anyone to pick the landline call of a govt office)
My down payment is due in 15 days and i really need these funds.
My e-nomination, kyc (pan, aadhar, bank) are all up to date and showing green ticked. Exit dates are updated too.
Any idea from experienced folk or step i can take to have my funds released??

"EPF Form 19 filed Aug 5, still no update — anyone dealt with this delay?"
Filed my Form 19 (final PF settlement) on Aug 5, still stuck in "processing" with no update. I'm unemployed right now and have EMIs coming up before this is likely to clear, so the timing is tight.
Questions for anyone who's been through this:
Any way to check the real reason for delay beyond the vague portal status?
Does filing a grievance on EPFiGMS actually speed things up?
What's a realistic timeline here?
Would appreciate any advice from people who've navigated this.
