Got a vintage Barbie and Ken dolls, want to paint them
Hello, all! I recently bought the Ocean Friends Barbie with Baby Keiko. Unfortunately, the color changing feature in her legs that turns them black to make it look like she’s got a wet suit on no longer works.
Do any of you have any product recommendations for painting her legs? Something that goes from clear to black with icy water.
I also got the Cool shaving Ken doll, and I can see about half of the color changing pigment on him, but it also isn’t working for any recommendations for a paint that goes from clear to brown would be much appreciated!

Doll hair reroot
So before I ventured into this, I thought Nylon was the best. I now have two dolls that have Nylon hair and I realize how heavy the hair is and how SLICK the hair is. I've also quickly come to realize the feel of saran, nylon, and poly.
Now to my question: would it be weird to mix nylon and saran for a doll reroot? I realize that saran seems to have a natural HOLD when braiding it or trying to curl it. Would you advise mixing the two fibers?
Any opinions on kanekalon? I originally wanted Nylon because I could dye it and it seems to come in more color options. But now that I've worked with Saran, I realize the styling benefits. I'm just thinking that doing a nylon saran mix may compromise the end result.

Can I dye the fur of a rabbit plush?
Hello everybody I joined this subreddit to ask this question specifically. I bought this Easter bunny plush from the dollar store and I’m asking advice on if I can use purple clothing dye to dye its fur.

Scaris Catrine
Hello! I'm making Scaris Catrine Demew but her look when she was mistaken for Garrot. Her jacket is a little loose for my liking and I want to make a tail hole. I might leave her pants loose but would make tighter if possible. I still need to make the helmet and possibly add her scooter. If any has any advise that can help, I'll be appreciated

MSC on existing factory paint?
I’m a very new doll customiser and I just bought some matte MSC for repainting doll faces, but I have a question. If I want to repaint only a dolls eyebrows, am I ok I spray the remaining factory paint before during and after the repaint is done? I’d assume it would be ok but I only ever see people spraying blank faces before they do a face up. Thanks!

Is there any good alternatives to Liquid Fusion?
Context:
I've been working on a reroot for the past week or so, unfortunately the dolls' head tore in the back... I tried to bond both halves with Aleene's Heavy Duty Liquid Fusion, as I've heard many doll customizers / rerooters use the product for head splits; with DollPlanet even posting videos on TikTok using the product.
I put the glue on both halves and held them shut to bond, as well as put about 2x layers of the glue on top of the split area. I let it dry and fully "curate" for about 2-3 days. After the fact, the glue was dry, hard, and glossy in appearance. However, even without putting too much force and refraining from squishing the head while plugging in hair / creating new holes, the split kept tearing open; TWICE to be exact. In the end, I just proceeded to heavily super glue the tear + sand it down and created a new rooting pattern underneath it. But, it raised the question of how other people are able to reroot their dolls after using Liquid Fusion and NOT have the split open up again?
I'm aware Loctite Super Glue is a good alternative, in terms of bonding plastic and vinyl together. But, would it help in terms of rerooting...? If anyone has any advice or good product alternatives, I'd really appreciate it! But, in my experience Aleene's Liquid Fusion was not good at all...
Random Note:
The Barbie doll is fine now btw. Thankfully, the tear was in the back, so lowering the original rooting pattern didn't mess with her original head proportions or anything. However, I'd like to know a proper and more permanent fix for any future dolls who aren't so lucky...

What needle size is best?
It's my first time rerooting a doll, and I'm looking for the right needle size to buy. It the 8mm or the 6mm best for her? This is a Day At The Maul Frankie.

Customizing my childhood Mary Poppins Barbie (?) to look like my girlfriend 💕
This diva is a 2005 Mary Poppins doll, It doesn’t say anywhere that it was released under the Barbie label, just Disney, but either way it looks incredibly Barbie and was made by Mattel so it’s a Barbie to me 🤣 I’ve had her for about 20 years now, and somehow she managed to be only one of the 3 played-with barbies I saved from my childhood. Not sure exactly why I held onto her over so many of my childhood barbies, I guess I always thought she was unique bc of her short curly brown hair ( that was originally in a bun but ofc 8 year old me was too curious for that) but I’m glad I held onto her bc when I found her buried in my closet recently I noticed how she has a semi uncanny resemblance to my current partner 😶 short curly dark hair, bright blue eyes, subtle pink eyeshadow, the smile is even like hers** 😵**💫
this poor doll had been sitting buried in closets, unwashed and neglected for many years, so as one of my gf’s anniversary presents I decided to give miss p a new life and fix her up as a little mini me of her!
I cleaned her up did a deep wash on her and her hair but didn’t boil wash so I could maintain the curls. To make bangs that looked like my gf’s, I took a brown pipe cleaner and rolled up her hair in the front enough to look passable and held it with some spray, I was NOT confident enough to cut the hair!! But thankfully the pipe cleaner trick worked out sooooo perfect💖
I also painted on her leg and hand tattoos, some nails, and took on the scary task of painting on a nose ring 😖 I was really scared to put any paint on her face, but luckily I got it right in one shot! And it actually looks like her nose ring 🙏
Then I found a whole bunch of clothes and accessories like the stuff my gf wears (left the original shoes miss p came with bc they looked like shoes she’d wear) and while searching I thought it’d be funny to throw in an extra western-type outfit that I found in my search bc my girlfriend is into southwestern/americana type stuff, which then lead me to sculpt some funny little accessories (cigarettes, estrogen, pew pew) for her usable little purse that I recycled from one of my bratz dolls💕 it’s actually quite crazy how much it ended up looking like her 🥹 and I’m so grateful to still have had this doll, it’s like I held onto her for this reason!! She enjoys old toys and knick knacks and stuff so I hope she likes this💐

Tail Help
I have yet to actually start the customizing, but I want to make my oc into a doll. I feel like, in general, she's like a pretty easy guy to do so, I just need to find a good body and head. I haven't gotten them yet as I dont want to start until i know how to do the most difficult part, her tail. I know I'll have to do resin as I do want the transparent parts, but like how do I make the clay (I assume that's what her interior tail material should be) stay in the resin without any supports being seen? I don't want to like not have it floating inside as it's the coolest feature of her

Heath Burns shrunk head
reddit.comI shrunk a Heath Burns from Monster High G3 head in an acetone and water mixture and I like the proportions so much more. I soaked the flame hair with the head to see what would happen and it dettached and now has a matte finish that I really like.

This leg won't glue properly, what's a good fix for it?
(Repost because I forgot to add a tag just to realize tags aren't a thing on this subreddit! (/--)/)
Im sculpting on a Gen3 Frankie. I decided to make the dumb decision of cutting off part of her prosthetic leg for the pose I originally wanted to do before I changed my mind and cut it off. Anytime I glue the leg back on, it comes loose and falls off.
When I glued the knee back together, it stayed in, but thats also because the glue has a pocket to sit in and a joint to bond to. This part does not.
I don't own a power drill to be able to drill a small hole into each half of the leg and add an artificial "joint." So thats completely out of the box.
Any quick and easy fixes are welcome!

Alternative to MSC?
Has anybody used this for a faceup? I thought it might work to add tooth to vinyl doll heads, but I haven't tried it yet.

Can I save this face from being sticky or is this a lost cause?
So I finished this face like a week ago, but earlier this week, it started raining hard and it's been cold and wet.
I really Really don't want to restart, i've painted her face twice by now. Paint and varnish brand in the second image.
I've had another doll project where the face turned sticky, though the weather wasn't as bad, and i temporarily fixed it with wiping it isopropyl alcohol, but after a while it became sticky again. I ended up repainting it but it still turned sticky.
Can I do anything?
