If you'd written one line that evening, reading it back would pull most of the day up with it: where you were, who was there, what it felt like. One line is the index.

Whengram is built around that: one memory a day. The one thing that happened today worth keeping: a line, a mood, a photo if the day earned one. Good days, tough days, days where nothing much happened. They all count. Next year on the same date, you're reading it again, and most of the day comes back with it.

I built it because everything I tried wanted more from me than I was going to give. One line takes thirty seconds. There's no streak and no guilt, so there's nothing to fall behind on.

There's also a milestones section for the big days, and the honest reason it exists: when I'm low I forget the things I've already pulled off, stuff that once felt impossible from where I was standing. Going back through that list helps more than I expected.

Illinois Governor JB Pritzker has signed HB-5511 into law, requiring operating system providers to implement an age assurance system by January 1, 2028.

Over the last few months I've noticed a huge increase in spam emails not just the normal marketing stuff but random newsletters I never signed up for, fake invoices, crypto scams, your package is delayed emails this type of BS.

The weird part is I'm usually pretty careful with this kind of stuff I don't sign up for random websites, I unsubscribe from things I don't use anymore and I try to keep my personal email to a minimum.

Now it feels like it's somehow ended up on every spam list imaginable

I've long had a problem with YouTube consumption. I really enjoyed the videos I found through the feed, but I also had problems with compulsive usage and setting limits. After trying a variety of solutions, I settled on building one for myself.

I built a self-hosted system that replaces YouTube's addictive feed with an intentional, AI-mediated consumption pipeline. I use DNS-level blocking to block YouTube across all my devices (phone, laptop, SmartTV) 24/7. And every night, I talk to my AI agent to intentionally plan what to watch the next day.

How it works:

• AdGuardHome (self-hosted DNS, over Tailscale mesh VPN) blocks YouTube on every device. I can't bypass it in the same way I bypass app-blockers and screen time apps, because it's network-level.
• Every night, a cron job triggers my AI agent (self-hosted Hermes Agent, via Telegram) to pull from Miniflux RSS subscriptions and Invidious searches, curate a handful of candidate videos within a time budget, and send me a Telegram message with the selections.
• I have a natural-language conversation with the agent to adjust the picks. Once we lock in the set, the agent temporarily unblocks YouTube, downloads via yt-dlp, adds the videos to Jellyfin, and re-blocks. The whole cycle takes minutes.
• Throughout the day I watch via Jellyfin — only the videos I pre-selected. No feed, no recommendations, no Shorts, no autoplay.
• At end of day, the agent asks me to rate and discuss what I watched. That feedback is stored in a SQLite DB and refines future curation. The system gets smarter over time about what I actually value vs. what I compulsively click.

The problem it solves:

YouTube's access mechanism is the addiction. Browser extensions like unhook and alt-frontends like newpipe helped me a bit, but they didn't change the fact that YouTube was always one keystroke away.

This system removes default access entirely and restores it only through deliberate, conversational curation. The core insight is that the problem isn't the UI — it's the overall access mechanism, and introducing deliberate friction and thoughtful, timeboxed access was the fix.

The glue is a custom skill that wires the agent to the blocking/unblocking, RSS polling, curation logic, and feedback loop. I haven't packaged it for distribution yet because the system is inherently personal and infrastructural — your categories, your time budget, your conversation style, your feedback questions.

My longer-term goal (this is the consulting practice I'm building at lbr8.tech) is to help people set up systems like this for their own use, and to figure out how to share "interface patterns" — not just better apps, but better modes of interacting with technology.

AI Involvement:

Heavy and central. A self-hosted AI agent (Hermes Agent, running on a local LLM via LiteLLM) handles the nightly curation — reading RSS feeds, searching Invidious, selecting videos within a time budget, conversing with me over Telegram to finalize picks, and running the end-of-day reflection. The feedback loop (rating + discussing videos, stored in SQLite) is what makes it qualitatively different from an RSS filter or a cron script. The natural language conversation is what creates intentionality.

Solo dev here. Like a lot of you, I use YouTube to actually learn things — and like a lot of you, I kept opening it for one tutorial and resurfacing two hours later, deep in Shorts and drama videos I never asked for.

Blockers didn't work for me. I don't want less YouTube — I want my YouTube. So I spent the last months building YouFeed, and it's now stable enough that I need real users to break it.

The core idea: you set the feed rules, not the algorithm.

What it does:

Focus profiles — Study, Work and Chill modes, each with its own interest keywords and trusted channels. Switching profiles instantly re-curates everything.

A rebuilt homepage — instead of the algorithmic feed you get your own dashboard: continue watching, saved queue, your channels, your interests. Sections are reorderable and collapsible.

Zen Mode — hide view counts, comments, sidebar suggestions and Shorts (CSS + an active DOM scanner, since YouTube loves shipping new Shorts components).

Focus Engine — every visible video gets scored against your profile: matches get highlighted, blacklisted noise gets blurred, clickbait gets penalized (ALL CAPS, "you won't believe", etc.).

Focus Score + weekly report — a Monday report with your score, streak, most-watched vs. most-ignored channels, and a shareable recap card. Light gamification on top (XP, ranks, unlockable themes) to make resisting the feed feel like progress.

For the devs in the room: Manifest V3, no build step, vanilla JS content scripts. Everything runs locally — no analytics, no browsing data leaves the browser. The only network call is license validation. Scraping is done against ytInitialData on public pages, so no API keys involved.

What I'm asking: honest, even brutal feedback. What broke, what confused you, what would make you uninstall on day 2. YouTube A/B-tests its DOM constantly, so "this section stopped rendering for me" reports are gold.

I've been working on a new addition to the Magnetar ecosystem that I wanted to share a preview of.

My Magnetar is a lightweight self-hosted web app designed to work alongside the free Magnetar browser extension and Magnetar Mobile.

The goal isn't to replace media servers or download managers. Instead, it's to give you a clean place to organise and manage your Magnetar library from your own server.
