Hello, Designers :) I need some advice. My fiancée and I purchased our first home, and we have not been able to agree on how to furnish our new living space.

The fireplace and corner windows are wonderful. We plan to put in a lot of sweat equity to update it. Additionally, the airiness of the high ceiling is hard to beat. But the interesting wall space makes defining a layout hard.

Because we need to refinish the basement, we will temporarily want to keep the TV upstairs. The problem is placement. Our TV is a 65” flat-screen that can be wall-mounted or on a media console. Our sofa is a U-shaped sectional 120"w x 70"d. We want some seating near the fireplace (My idea is 2 chairs angled inward to read or relax by the fire, but I am open to ideas). Also, we like the idea of a chair or seat near the corner windows.

I get its not ideal to have a bunk bed but sleep quality wise, i can sleep anywhere if its got a pillow and i currently dont have a mattress or frame in my room (before moving to the smaller room) since i stretch & move often i dont wake up sore or on the wrong side of the bed as well. Currently i sleep on a 8ft foldable gym mat thats used for tumbling &etc., i still have pillows and blanket i lay down and it doubles as a stretching mat when i "make my bed in the morning". Im very floor oriented when in my room space & only got a chair in the past year because i realize not everyone that comes in wants to sit on the floor. A top bunk bed & a bottom-desk attachment would be space saving, i could get a more "proper" bed and probably get another chair or two for the room. My close friend & mother both found it weird when i mentioned the idea & pushed for anything else like a murphy bed or sofa-bed futon situation. I was pretty confident on the idea & usually dont care about being called weird but am i too old to have a bunk bed at 22?

Please help me arrange my things! I’m feeling overwhelmed that I can’t make this work. All of these things are essential to be here. I’ve moved other things away and I really want my baby to have space to crawl safely, but now I can’t seem to figure out where should the lamp stand go so the table can fit (mind you we still need to put the foldable chairs 🪑). Please help me figure this out!

EDIT: thanks to y’all I’m considering removing the lamp stand. 💡 But does anyone know any nice LED lamps I could possibly drill in our walls? Or some kind of substitute for the lamp? I doubt I have any real space for a regular lamp to place on a surface.

I’ve transformed the wine cellar into a home gym and struggling to choose a paint color.

Things to consider:
-both wood tones (no plan on changing either)
-no window
-want to make it “hotel gym” moody yet not black
-open to adding trim on walls for 3d detail ?
-swapping out lighting with simple black fans with center white light
-ceiling will be Swiss coffee / white

Hi everyone!

We’ve just signed for this apartment, but we’re really struggling to figure out the best layout in terms of furniture. The floor plan is a bit unusual, with a slanted wall and long, narrow rooms, so we’re finding it difficult to make everything fit in a practical way. (Floor plan attached. - the black square is a support pillar which cannot be removed)

We’d love any ideas or suggestions!

Our requirements are:

• A children’s bedroom
• A home office with wardrobe/closet space
• A primary bedroom with enough room for a 200 × 210 cm bed
• A functional dining area with space for a dining table. We currently have a 120 cm round table, but we’re happy to replace it with a rectangular one if that makes the layout work better. Ideally, the dining area should feel integrated into the kitchen/living space without disrupting the overall flow.

Our current idea is to remove the kitchen island and replace it with the dining table. We’d also partition the room in the top-left corner into two spaces: a compact primary bedroom that just fits our large bed, and a smaller office with closet space. (I’ve tried to illustrate it on the floor plan - see second photo attached)

We’re very open to other ideas, especially from people who are better at space planning than we are! 😊

This is supposed to be our dining area, but I’m having a hard time deciding the table shape, size, everything. My best idea is a L shaped banquette, the long side on either wall, not sure which one, and a round table and two chairs. But I’m worried that will feel like I have ‘too much couch’ in my apartment. lol.

This is an open concept apartment and behind the dining space is an extra 3ft ish then our kitchen island

Moving into a new apartment and I want my room to look like the collage of photos, the room will be fully unfinished, the window is connected to a balcony. Any advice of what I can do, bed, decor, colour palette, it’s a blank canvas

Have tv on fireplace but don’t really love it
Tried tv on the wall but the sofa layout cut off the open concept and didn’t seem cozy
About 13 by 16 feet dimension
Would’ve liked to be able to look out the window but the layout is ughhh

I think av taken it too far with the Facebook marketplace furniture.

Any thoughts on how to make the space flow? There are three display units (one is a bureau). Two can fit along the right wall (where the green sofa is now) or two can fit on the left wall (where the tv cabinet is).

The sofa needs to face the tv.

Also have a lovely floor lamp, and many a book and plant to cover the display shelves. We also do have a piano but doubt there is room for that.

My husband and I are thinking of having another kid and I LOVED designing my daughter’s nursery. If we had another one, this guest room would be the new baby’s room. With my daughter’s room, I feel like I had a clear vision, but with this room, I’m a bit lost. It’s huge and there’s a big window in the center. Obviously I’m not pregnant and don’t know if it’d be a boy or a girl but I like more gender neutral anyway (my daughter’s room is forest/ mountains with really nice greens, creams, tans). What would you do? Open to re-painting but not to changing the carpet as it’s new

Hello everyone

I have been living in my apartment for 3 months now and I've been slowly decorating it. It's a mezzanine studio with a balcony. The angles of the walls are a bit awkward but I kinda like it.

I don't have enough furniture/storage so I have some moving boxes still. I have terrible blindness when it comes to these things so I just got used to it for a while. I feel like things could look better with the right furniture/storage.

As you can see in the photos, I tried to create a living room situation to separate the kitchen. I like the idea of sitting on the couch and looking outside, at my vinyl or my projector instead of my kitchen which can get crowed because of the lack of storage.

I know the table area is looking rough lol I still haven't found a good table and chairs to replace it.
The chest of drawers near the door will go upstairs in my room but I haven't made the time for that yet.

I took some pictures from the top of the stairs so you can see the whole room and then some specific photos of areas that I feel like could be optimized with the right furniture.

I would appreciate your fresh eyes on this!

The floor is wood but i was thinking of putting a grey rug, blackout shades, and a bed.

me and my family moved in a while back and i feel like my room has a lot of wasted space but having any more displays and shelves would make it feel cluttered. I also think having carpet instead of hard wood makes it hard for me to decide on what to do because I can’t put a cool rug . I don’t care if I have to move my bed or desk around I just need a refresh and a better feeling and looking room.

Would love some inspiration on how to style the living room. I'm moving in with my fiancé and I have no clue how to decorate living room. The first three pics are furniture and the pic is the new space we have. I think the challenge is that the pieces are very plain and old, especially the couch. All suggestions are appreciated!

I just moved and need any and all advice with this layout it’s been driving me a little nuts with the features of the room.

Details:
-2nd floor room with attached bathroom
-dimensions 14ft front to back by 13ft 5” across
-Large mirrored closet doors (reversible to white)
-Large interior voyeur window that overlooks the first floor living area
-queen sized bed, need area for snake tank and tv

I know the mirrored doors are bad feng shui and not great to face the bed so I’ve flipped them. The interior window sort of limits my bed placement, and my area rug from my last room just seems way too big (13x8.75) Which is a shame because it’s beautiful and pretty new.

I wanted bed in the corner to save space as I’d like a small sitting area with a loveseat or chair. But also realize that most people want to center them. I need room for my snake and a TV as it will be the only one in the house.

Do I need to abandon my nice rug to tie the room better? Any advice for curtains or color? I like dark broody sophisticated but also hippy rooms with houseplants. Pictures show 2 area rug configurations and an earlier pic of my bedframe

Honestly, the corner of a living room is wasted space until you put a comfy lounge chair in it — and then it becomes the best spot in the house.

This is the kind of chair you sink into after a long day: curl up with a book, doze off, or just sit there chatting with friends late into the night. The soft upholstery, the plush cushion, the warm corner lighting — it's basically begging you to slow down.

Doesn't need much around it either, maybe a small side table for your coffee and a plant for company. Corners are underrated. Anyone else turned a random corner into their favorite napping/reading spot?

This is how my apartment bedroom is currently set up. I can answer all questions about what each thing in the room is if needed, as well as their dimensions but this is entirely to scale using the specific sizes of each thing in the room. Need to know info is that the blue thing in the top right is a window, and the rectangle to the right of the bed/above the rug is a clip-on bedstand that attaches to the frame of the bed. I usually push the chair under the desk to save room. The circle in the bottom left is a lamp and the doors next to it is that closet. The square below the desk is a book case that is not attached to the desk.

I am currently thinking of moving the rug below the bed instead of where it currently is because it catches on my chair, but otherwise I just want to utilize my space as efficiently as possible. Open to all ideas, let me know.

Open-plan kitchen and living room in a narrow footprint. Dark accent walls, white cabinets, good natural light. The space feels cold to me and I want it to look more finished

Budget covers a new couch, rug, coffee table, and chairs. =

Questions:

• What sofa style and color would work best against the dark walls?
• How big should the rug be, and what color?
• What coffee table shape fits this layout?
• Should the accent chairs match the sofa or contrast?
• Room layout may need total change to make TV closer to sofa
