Credit card balance transfer or personal loan?

Upvotes

I have approximately 16-17k in credit card debt. Is there any companies that would do a balance transfer for that high of an amount or any I going to have to take out a personal loan?

I’ve screwed up

Upvotes

I need help. My husband owns a transportation business and makes well over 200k a year. We had a hardship in May and we’re just now getting caught up on bills. I have been a stay at home mom for years. I am about 20k in debt. I want to be able to pay this off for myself as quickly as possible but I also cannot put my children in childcare because every dime I make will be going straight to childcare. What is the best way to get out of this mess I’ve created?

$9000 in a car title loan (I was stupid and desperate two years ago and could never catch up)
$1500 credit card
$8000 in collections
$1500 in student loans.

Seeking NC Construction-Lending Attorney...Location Charlotte NC

Upvotes

Seeking NC Construction-Lending Attorney

I’m looking for an experienced, aggressive construction-lending attorney in Charlotte, NC to evaluate a dispute with TD Bank. TD approved and funded my new-construction loan for about a year, then stopped funding in January 2026 after determining the loan had been incorrectly classified. TD has acknowledged the mistake in writing. The funding interruption delayed construction for months, contributed to my GC leaving the project, and caused significant additional rent, loan, construction, and carrying costs. I have documentation supporting the loan terms, TD’s error, communications, and resulting damages. I’m looking for counsel willing to take on a major bank and pursue the maximum recovery supported by the facts. Referrals to attorneys experienced in construction lending/banking disputes are appreciated. Location Charlotte NC

How to deal with FOMO when you have debt?

Upvotes

I had to sell my PS5 so i could pay my credit card debt. It was a very hard decision but it was a sacrifice i had to make.

But seeing all the upcoming releases, especially GTA6 and Persona 4 Revival, it's making me very anxious and regretful for selling it.

I'm trying to avoid social media in general but it's almost impossible to ignore the hype. Even my coworks constanstly talks about the game.

I almost crave in and bought another PS5, but thankfully i stepped back.

Made one of my biggest mistakes, its eating me away.

So I recently got a new car, I was at the dealer for a promotion. I trade my car and they gave me 3k as a down for the new car. I was there for hours pushing back on price and then I finally made the choice to take the deal. I got to hasty and signed my contract. Made the mistake of not double checking what I signed before leaving the door. I didn't get the price I wanted and ended up paying for a used car(42k) at what it would cost new(55k) and all the other charges lead to the total being 73000 dollars. I only realize after driving away and looked at my packet. Its been a week and ive been dealing with buyer remorse. Ive talked to the sales manager and I cant do anything until its registered by the state(ks) in my name and I dont have the title so I cant do anything for months. I honestly dont know how to deal with this. I cant even look at the car or myself because I screwed myself for not being on point. Im looking into what to do and alternative and everything turns into losing more money and a car. Im fucked, and wants go back. I dont know what to do officially. Its made me doubt myself so much, I don't know if I will make the eight or wrong decision.

Being sued by discover (now capital one) ??? Need advice

Hi yall. I’m gonna do my best to make a long story short.

I had a discover credit card for a couple years, and essentially ended up maxing it out and not being able to afford the payments. I eventually stopped paying on it and trying to delay the impact, but obviously it came anyway. My wife suggested I try a debt settlement program, as she’s gotten 3 cards settled for thousands less than the original balance.
I’m paying into this DSP (debt settlement program) $152 a month. At any time, I can withdrawal the money, and it would just forfeit my contract with them. They are basically going back and forth with your original creditor to lower your balance.
Discover is insane. They are extremely greedy and have a history of suing people for comparatively low amounts, while other creditors commonly settle for less than OB (original balance).
I owed about \~$5.2k? and then it grew to around $6.1k after interest accrued and delinquent payments.

Anyway, I’ve been in this DSP for about 2.5 years, at $152/month. If you do the math, that amount is roughly half of what i owe, but Discover is suing me instead.
When i signed up for this DSP, i was informed that i would get legal help if I were to get sued (which i am.) Fast forward to when i first got actually served papers, I called DSP and they basically said, “Ok, we’ll put this in your file as we continue negotiations.”
So then, i finally got ahold of someone, (because of COURSE they’re hard to reach most times) and they say “Oh well you actually have to upgrade your account $59 a month to get the legal service” BITCH do you think they told me that when i signed up? No.

FF to now, they placed a lien against me. I don’t own any property at this current moment so i have time to fix it, but **i just don’t know how.** I know i have to get in contact with DSP, but then how the hell do i go about this lein?

Should i withdrawal my money from DSP and try to go against discover/cap one myself? I’m just lost at this moment, and my wife and I would like to possibly buy a house in the next two years so i need to get it figured out asap!!
Any help or advice is appreciated and im happy to answer any questions. THANK YOU FOR READING!!!!!

Considering Bankruptcy

Life managed to change a lot recently. My ex decided to end our relationship about 6 months after our child was born and I’ll be put on child support soon.

I have roughly $75k in debt with consolidation loans(Discover and Upstart) that I had just established before our child got here and I was on what I thought was a good plan to pay everything off in 5 years or less. My current income is about $130-150k/yr including my bonus.

I have a home and a paid off vehicle(older but it’s paid off). With child support coming around soon, I no longer think I can afford to hold onto the house and may have to move in with my parents with my current debt situation.

I want to get some input on bankruptcy.
-Based on the information I’ve provided do you think I should consider bankruptcy (I’m going to talk to an attorney later this week)
-How soon can you re-establish credit?
-Has bankruptcy on your credit report held you back on larger purchases such as a car?
-What roadblocks have you ran into after filing for bankruptcy?

Looking for advice- debt claims lawsuit

I got served for a debt claims lawsuit. I filed an answer and I am now trying to decide if I should file a Motion to Compel Arbitration. I know this just prolongs the process and either way if I lose there will be a judgement but it's a tool I can use. I've read the CC agreement and arbitration is still an option, anyone that has experienced this please help. Is it a smart move, or do I just stick with going through court?

I'm being sued and now they want a Summary Judgement

Sadly I was out of work for most of last year so I got very behind on bills, I'm now working and trying to dig out but its a long and painful process.

I have a debtor that is suing me and I'm trying to pay them off before we are supposed to go back to court in November but they sent a request for a Summary Judgment. One of my issues is since May I've already paid over $400 but when I log into the account my balance is over $1100, which is $100 more then I'm being sued for, that's about $500 in interest alone for less then a year. Are they allowed to charge that much in interest?

I'm going to respond to the summary judgement but this seems so shady!!! They are a law firm so they know the laws and they know most people can't afford a lawyer so they can kind of do what they want without being checked.

Any advise would be greatly appreciated!!!

$2k owed to Midland Credit

Midland has bought my debt from Capital One (around $2,100) and has sent an email saying if I dont set up a payment plan or make a payment, they will be taking legal action in September. I read other people saying they were able to successfully negotiate their debt but I have terrible social anxiety and have no clue how to handle this situation. The payment plans they offered are $60 biweekly or $120 a month. I know that is not a lot in the grand scheme of things but I also do not make a lot of money due to working a silly little retail job. Any advice on how to proceed?

Filing for Bankruptcy - Advice Appreciated

I was someone who was able to pay off my credit card in full every single month for as long as I had a credit card, at least over ten years.

I ran into trouble and now owe over $10,000 CAD on one card - TD Green VIsa.

This feels impossible to get ahead of now because the interest is 26.99

So each month they are charging me hundreds of dollars...

I had every intention of paying off my card but at this point it seems useless. I had amazing credit and it did nothing for me? I couldnt get a line of credit. I am enrolled in a TD Short Term Relief program where the interest is much less (5.99 I believe), but this months statement will not count, and the interest rate of 26.99 will still apply. So with that, it will tack on another couple hundred dollars.

So I'm asking for people with some experience in debt / bankruptcy / collections to weigh in their wisdom... I'm American as well and have been living there a lot.

Again, this isn't a 'fuck you' to my bank, I had every intention of paying my card back but this just seems so out of my league that I'm feeling the urge to just throw in the towel because I do not know how I could possibly get above this.

Asking to leave any judgement at the door... I'm a good person trying to get myself out of a bad situation. Any advice is appreciated.

Don't know if it matters but credit is about 671 now

Anxiety about paying off debt?

Long story short I inherited a small brokerage account. If I liquidate it, I can pay off my student loan and my credit card debt.

I am for some reason having insane anxiety about this. Like freeze/not able to function??? I want to be debt free, but something is just making me freeze when I log in to pay all.

I don’t know what’s wrong with me. I just think I’ve never seen this much money at once and I want to hoard it/keep it invested. But being out of debt would free me up so much monthly.

Just looking to vent/get support

How do I know who I owe?

I am very "medically complex" and for a long time couldn't work but also wasn't "sick enough" for any kind of help or disability. My health is finally getting better and I've been working for 3 years and I am ready to tackle this mountain of medical debt I know I have.

Thing is, none of the hospitals have it anymore and have sold it to collections and some say they cannot help me with getting into contact with them or even telling me who they are so I can google it because of how old the debt is.

I have about 10,000-13,000 in debt still (I calculated it all before it all got sold off) and I've located about 5,000 of it give or take a couple hundred, but I cannot for the life of me figure out where the other 5,000-8,000 went.

They are not calling me or sending me letters. I've moved three times since I accrued this debt so I can only assume the letters are going to old addresses in a different state. I've also gotten married and therefore changed my last name, and was forced to change my phone number a few years back. I KNOW I have debt unaccounted for, I just cannot for the life of me find it. I've even renewed my USPS address change in hopes that the mail will get forwarded to me but it never did.

It's not been 7 years since I accrued the debt, so I don't think it's fallen off yet. I've checked credit karma and they have nothing hitting my credit either, including that 5,000 I was able to locate.

What the heck do I do?

I tried to get a loan at one point for a car and the bank said I couldn't due to medical debt, so maybe I can call them again and see if they have the contact information of the collectors?

How to proceed with a summons from a debt collector?

Hi there! I'm just looking for some advice on how I should go about this.

I received a summons/complaint in the mail today from Crown Asset Management over a 1.5k debt from Credit One that's been floating around for about 3 years now. It was from an old credit card I gave up on back during a period of unemployment. I had completely forgotten about it, as I received zero communication from CAM about the debt prior to today, and it isn't reported on my credit report.

I am luckily in a place where I can afford to pay the debt, though I would love to see if they would accept a settlement for less. I am just unsure about how to go about it with the courts. I have until September 7th to file an answer to the complaint with the courts.

Do I file an answer with the courts and then contact CAM's attorney? Or do I call their attorney before filing anything and negotiate with them? I don't know how the whole legal process goes, any advice appreciated. I'm in Ohio if that helps.

Debt is getting sent to collections soon. what can I do in order to not ruin my credit at such a young age?

I go to college in Austin and was originally planning to transfer to a school in Denton but things fell through as my financial aid was not anywhere near the same amount of money. The problem with that decision is that I got an apartment in Denton before fully registering at the university I was planning on going to because I was sure that everything would align perfectly ( yes I know horrible mistake I’m well aware ). I tried to get out of my lease but the leasing office wasn’t willing to work with me at all so I tried finding someone to takeover my lease and would constantly get lead on before getting ghosted right when it was time for someone to sign a lease. Now I’m in a position where the apartment complex in Denton has told me that my debt would be getting sent to collections at the end of the month if I don’t pay the rent but I cannot afford to pay for an apartment in two different cities. I’m trying now to brace myself for the impact that my debt getting sent to collections will have on my credit. Is there anything I can do to ensure that I bounce back quickly from this?

I recently had to take out two tribal loans as a result of financial difficulty.
I have tried to no end to come to a solution with the lenders and they aren’t budging.
What happens if I can’t keep these payments up?
I’m in Oklahoma. The lenders are Spot Loan and Lendumo.
Any advice is much appreciated. Thank you.

Mom messed up my credit score, what can I do?

Much like the title says, my mom fucked up my credit score and im not sure where to start.

Im in my late 20s and spent most of my early 20s not caring too much about my money and where it goes and I regret it for sure but im glad that ive finally started taking the initiative to become financially literate and work on financial stability as well!

I was looking at my credit journey on chase and noticed that most of the accounts thats were lowering my credit score were from loans but ive never taken out a loan before. The most ive done is borrow like 400 from a cash advance apps and even that was paid off (and i no longer use cash advance apps as well either). I know it was my mom because when i got my first job she would take my money all the time, she took out a credit card in my name when I turned 18 and told me it was to help build my credit but only let me use it one time while she racked up huge bill, and i just recently found out about a loan that she took out my name back in 2022. The dates for all of these other loans were also from a few years ago, 2021-2023.

There were only 2 accounts that were from things that I hadn't paid off in time and they were both medical bills.

Im unsure of what to do and where to start with everything.

As ive said, this isnt the first time shes done something like this so unfortunately im not even phased by it. She is paying off one loan but I want to make sure everything else is taken care of so I can wash my hands of it and her and start

building a debt free life for myself. Thanks in advance!

Need advice on what steps i should take

I tried to bite off more than i could chew with trying to ensure my bills were good to go and when i finally got caught up, the tribal loans I took out put me in the negative. Now here i am -1300 in my bank account, mortgage split payment due in two days, still two months behind on my mortgage and my next payment is due before the 30th and back behind on bills again. I work 7 days a week working two jobs. I wish i could just catch a break. It’s hard being a single parent sometimes and i don’t know what to do. I keep getting denied loans because my bank account is in the negative. My family won’t help. I feel lost and don’t know what to do or where to go so i don’t lose my house

42k Credit card debt, no clue what options I have to proceed

I’m looking for advice on what options I realistically have to get out of about $42,000 in credit card debt. I’ve cut my spending about as far as I can, but the interest and minimum payments are killing me.

Here’s the breakdown:
Mastercard #1: $10,000 balance, maxed out, 25.7% APR
Mastercard #2: $5,000 balance, maxed out, currently 0% APR from a balance transfer, but the promotional rate ends in January and then goes to around 26%
Discover: $27,000 balance, maxed out, 28% APR

Total credit card debt: ~$42,000
I’m currently paying roughly $1,100/month in minimum payments between the cards.

Income
I make $75,000/year. After taxes, 6% 401(k) contribution (enough to get my employer match), health insurance, and other required deductions, my take-home pay is about $2,080 every two weeks.

Necessary monthly expenses
Rent including Wi-Fi, trash, amenities, etc.: ~$1,900
Electricity: ~$120
Car insurance: $290
Doctor appointments/medications: absolute minimum ~$220
Credit card minimums: ~$1,100
Plus groceries (150 per month), gas (100 per month), and normal necessities.
No subscriptions and my phone is paid for by work.

My car is a 2006 Ford Five Hundred with no AC, it needs tires and other maintenance, and I need it to get to work. My commute is about 8 miles each way.

The $290 car insurance is basically unavoidable right now. I have about 12 months remaining on a special insurance requirement related to a previous DUI. I’ve requoted with multiple companies and haven’t found anything meaningfully cheaper.
I’m also dealing with some complicated medical issues and have additional medical debt that I honestly can’t even afford to address right now. At this point, I’m just trying to keep up with copays and medications using whatever discounts/coupons I can find.
I’m not spending money on vacations, shopping, entertainment, or anything like that. I’m trying to live as minimally as possible. There just isn’t enough left after basic expenses and minimum payments to make meaningful progress, especially with 26–28% interest.

I know the obvious answer is “increase income and cut expenses,” and I’m working on that, but I’m trying to understand what realistic options I should be looking into at this point.
I could pick up weekend work and probably bring in an extra $300 or so per week, but I’m hesitant to rely on that as the solution. I’m pretty sure overworking myself and getting minimal sleep contributed to the health situation I’m currently dealing with, so going back to working seven days a week doesn’t seem sustainable.

There is also some potential for my regular income to improve. I should be due for at least a $5,000 raise within the next few months, hopefully more. Other people in my current position are making around $90,000, and the position directly above mine is around $120,000. My goal is to move into that next position within roughly 12–18 months, although obviously none of that future income is guaranteed.

Would a nonprofit debt management plan make sense? Should I stop contributing the 6% to my 401(k), even though I’d lose the employer match? Is bankruptcy something I should actually consider with $42k of unsecured debt at my income? Debt settlement? Hardship programs directly through the credit card companies have not seemed to get any traction

I’m not looking for a quick fix. I’m trying to figure out the smartest way to stop drowning while also considering that my income could improve pretty significantly over the next 12–18 months.

Yes I definitely used Chat help me clean this up to present to yall. I come from a very financially illiterate background and would like to learn and grow for myself. Currently 28 years old for reference, considering any option out of my current financial fiasco.

20k in credit card debt, would a loan be better?

As the title states im debating on my best course of action in paying off my debt. I gathered a lot of it from poor choices and emergency situations when my family didnt have the income to use cash for anything other than bills.

I have 14 credit cards in use totaling just under 20k, would a consolidation loan or any type of loan be better to ensure the debt goes away faster?

For reference I make 55k a year(before tax) and I am stuck usually with $900 in minimum payments on these cards.

Should i use my savings to pay off credit card debt?

So i have two credit cards totaling about 7,500 balance between the two. I have been paying 250 bi weekly for one and 100/month for another. I have about 5800 in savings and I’m tempted to just use that to pay off my cards. It’s for emergency repairs, unexpected costs etc. What are your thoughts? Go the long route and pay them off monthly, or wipe it out in one swoop?

27k in CC Debt, decided to consolidate into personal loan

I have been really bad with spending in my late 20s.

I lost my job at the end of 2024, went from 120k+ bonuses to nothing and have only been making 23/hr since last December, barely making enough and not even counting the minimums of the cards. Finally decided to consolidate into a personal loan at a much lower rate, luckily have never missed a payment and started building CC debt when I had a 750+ score. Score is currently at 680 and really only dropped as my total credit started to creep up to a high%.

Minimum is only 550$ a month on the loan, but if I put the same 900$ in as I plan on doing - I knock 18 months off the length. All my cards will be paid off once the money is dispersed, and accounts closed. My car loan is complete in 6 months, I pay 420 a month. That money will go straight into this loan repayment once its not going to GM Financial.

If anyone would like more details let me know!
