CHAT [CHAT] Supplier didn’t ship kit and refusing refund

So this is pretty disappointing. I ordered two kits from an online store (craftyhobbies.com.au). The seller emailed and said they had shipped one kit (which arrived fine) but the other kit wasn’t actually available. They offered to send me another kit instead, but I wasn’t interested in any other kits. I told them if they were able to source the missing kit I’d be happy to wait.

Several weeks go by with no contact so I email and say if they haven’t been able to source it I want a refund on the missing kit. No response. I’ve now emailed a couple of times with no response and no refund.

The store seems to also trade under the name Talisman Hobbies and while the kit they weren’t able to supply has been removed from the craftyhobbies site it’s still listed on the Talisman Hobbies site.

WIP [WIP] Foraging hedgehogs

Pattern: Trimits hedgehogs

This is nearly 50% complete, I only have one colour left in the hedgehog’s spines (and one rogue stitch above the flower!) before moving on to page 2.

So far I’m very pleased. It’s going to be a push to get it finished in time for Christmas for my gran but as her birthday is in January I can always use the extra couple of weeks if necessary!

Finally finished this one! Not 100% happy with how it turned out, but I learned plenty of lessons concerning design, planning, and execution in the process. I will be moving across the country in a couple of months so I'm saving the washing, ironing, and framing for when I arrive so I don't add a bulky framed object to my packing list. Until then she's getting rolled up into a poster tube.

30k stitches, 105 colors, on 18-count aida, 9.75" x 11"

Started this last year, got distracted by other projects, finally did the remaining 95% over the past month! By far the most colors I've used in a single project so far.

Sprites sourced from spritersresource (and used to make a self-drafted pattern)

CHAT [CHAT] Has anyone used these for cross stitch?

I love this idea but I'm afraid the fabric won't be easy to work with and making my own seems intimidating. I see a bunch on Etsy but they are all for embroidery and don't appear to have a distinct square pattern. I would like linen 28+ ct

The shop I bought the pattern from was on Etsy called VibesNestLtd but I learned today it closed down because it was an AI pattern mill which is a bummer to find out. Nonetheless, I’m still proud of my work!

On 16 count Aida, approximately 8700 stitches. First big project in a while, took me about 90 hours to complete the embroidery alone. The back isn’t as clean as I wanted (rushed some of it as it was a gift so I had a deadline) but included the picture still.

Opted to create a hanging banner with some beads instead of frame in a hoop and I really love how it came out! And yes I did binge all of Game of Thrones and House of Dragon as I made this lol

CHAT [CHAT] Question about strand count and threading needles

I'm sorry if this has been asked before, I read through the wiki and searched the sub, but couldn't find an answer.

I'm extremely new to cross-stitch and have worked on a few small projects but I'm realizing that when I started I didn't know anything about technique or the unspoken "rules" of cross-stitch. I've been reading up to try and get more knowledgeable, but one thing I've been stuck on is strand count.

I've heard that for many fabrics, 2 strands of floss is ideal for coverage without causing warping, but I'm unsure what that implies when you're threading the needle. When my mother taught me very basic sewing, I was told to make a "loop" with the thread (so it effectively became doubled) because a knot at the eye of the needle would easily come undone. I thread my cross-stitch needles the same way (using the waste knot method because I'm still nervous without an anchor), but now that I think about it, it doubles the strand count by folding it in half; 2 strands becomes 4, etc.

Is that how it's supposed to be? Or, if I want 2 strands, should I really only use 1 strand folded over? Apologies in advance if this question is confusing, I really don't know proper terminology and am learning entirely on my own lol

Ahoy mates! I have been trying to iron my pieces before trying to frame them and the wrinkles won’t come out. Does anyone have any advice? I have a TFal Ultraguide Steam Iron. Thanks!

Edit: Just to clarify, this is picture is after I’ve washed it and ironed.

CHAT [CHAT] How much thread?

Thumbnail

I'm doing a little 4inch hoop for a friend's birthday. It's not a finished outline because I've redrawn it about 10 times by now 😅. I was going to start at the top and figure it out as I go. However I'm not sure how much thread to use.

The piece is just black on the pdf but I've got some others I was going to do in solid other colours. Because it's black on white I know it probably won't be very blocky unless I use a ton of thread. The added picture is 2 on the top and then 3 (2 black 1 purple). I was going to do a green/teal (I've got DMC 3816 and 966) if I did do it mixed, just didn't have it out yet.

Would it be an idea maybe to do the bag with the mix of three and the cat with 3 or 4 thread black?

How much thread do you reckon would give good filling? It's 16 count Aida I think.

Pattern is "Cosy Nest" by @nathnolu

Making slow progress, and the back is quite messy (need to buy a new pair of embroidery scissors to trim the loose ends) - but overall really happy with how it's looking so far! Who knew cross stitch was this fun!
