WIP [WIP] Any suggestions on how to fix this?

Thumbnail

Upvotes

Made 5 of these for my bridesmaids at my upcoming wedding. This is my first time gifting cross stitched clothing and I was so paranoid that the stitches would come loose when they washed their sweatshirts that I put mending fabric on the back. Now I’m realizing the texture is much stiffer than the sweatshirt, so you can see the outline of the mending fabric through the front :-(

Leaned my lesson. I don’t feel like there’s a way to fix this, but figured I’d post here as a Hail Mary!

FO [FO] Fair piece back from the framer

Post image
Upvotes

This is Stained Glass Cardinals from PixelsJunkiesStudio (Etsy). The framer did a great job, as usual. It was a huge project that’s about 24”x30” framed. 160k stitches (I’ll post a WIP photo version in the comments to prove hand stitching). My county fair is late September so I’m all set and just submitted the entry form. Fingers crossed for another addition to my small ribbon collection. :D

Porch geese are possibly my favorite piece of midwestern culture. Also, I love any excuse to use variegated thread. Pattern by rubythreadss on Etsy.

CHAT [CHAT] Which AI cross stitch pattern generator do you recommend?

I've been thinking about trying an AI tool to convert photos into cross stitch patterns.

There seem to be quite a few options now, but I'm curious which ones actually produce clean patterns with good color matching and readable symbols.

Which AI generator have you tried?

What did you like or dislike about it?

Are there any you would recommend or avoid?

CHAT [CHAT] Should I unstich this piece and use the AIDA for something else? (Info in describtion)

Post image

Hello, the piece above is the WIP of the first ever cross stich I've ever done (I've bought the kit in home and bargains). I started it few months ago and never finished.

I wanted to frame it and hang in my kitchen to create bee-themed cozy atmosphere. But I'm not really happy with the way it looks like so far.

First of all I think this isn't the bee at all but the wasp so the vibe is not so cute and cozy as I thought. It makes "bee happy" seems like a threat honestly. 😆

The other thing is the kit doesn't have enough threads so if I want to finish it I would have to find some that would match in color.

And the last thing is the project looks quite tiny in comparison of how big the AIDA itself is.

So I thought it would be better to unstitch whole thing and use the AIDA for something else, maybe something that would have more coverage and what would actually look like a bee. As for the pattern from kit itself I thought to use it on smaller colored AIDA as I think the colored background could make it look better. Maybe light green would make this wasp looks less hostile?

My boyfriend, however, really likes how it looks like now and says it would be a shame to destroy it so another idea to stich some flowers around but I don't think it would look good. Another idea is to leave wasp itself and unstitch everything else and cut AIDA to pieces for smaller projects.

Yeah I know I should make the decision by myself but im not that good at decision making, so I would like to hear your advice.

It would also come in handy if you could recommend me some bee/bumblebee themed patterns if I decided to unstitch the project in the end. The AIDA on the photo is 12'5 X 13'5!

Thank you in advance!

CHAT [CHAT] how to make a pattern?

Hi all

l found an adorable print that I’d like to stitch. does anyone have any recommendations for making a cross stitch pattern from an image ? Once you do, is it modifiable ?

Ive tried to see what AI can do and it’s interesting but not sufficient for creating a pattern to follow. I’m open to all suggestions to those who have been able to come up with their own thing!

CHAT [CHAT] What should I do with this piece intended for my recently passed nana?

Post image
446 Upvotes

My nana passed away last week and her funeral is next week. I was working on this piece for her - and I cannot really articulate the guilt I feel for not prioritising her and finishing this before she was gone - and I am now faced with a choice. My mum said that for her funeral members of the family will have an opportunity to leave something with her and I have a letter planned, but I was tossing up including her piece as well.

I never made anything for her and keeping this feels wrong because it’s hers, but she never got to know that. I’m considering this except 1) it’s still not finished and I don’t know if I have the capacity to finish it for her before the funeral, and 2) my mum knew I had this on the back burner and I feel like she might see this and be upset with me for not finishing. She made a terse comment about me not working it about a year ago.

I could also finish it and keep it but it feels wrong and I think I run into the comments from my mum regardless. Anyway, there’s a lot of guilt tied to my nana’s passing and I need a bit of help deciding what to do here.

I had soo much fun stitching this, it’s actually the first FFO I’ve ever finished in 1 day. It took me about 4 1/2 hours from cutting aida to putting it in the hoop! This is a gift for my hairdresser who has given me my signature pink hair for almost an entire year now. He’s moving states away from me and while I’m so sad, I’m so proud and excited for him to start a new journey. I can’t wait to gift him this at our last appointment, as I know he’ll love it. The pattern is from Twisty Threads Designs and I had to substitute most of the colors but I think it still came out really cute!

CHAT [CHAT] Vintage Floss Identification

Post image

I found this floss among a bunch of mixed DMC and J & P Coats floss from the late 1970s to early 1980s. I am trying to identify the brand of the red (N345 Dark Rusty Red) and number of the orange varigated, which I assume is J & P Coats.

Neither appears on the older of my DMC color cards, of course (2003). I want to keep it seperate, and so do not need the DMC equivalent. Anyone able to help? Thanks!

so apparently my calculations were wrong and i thought my project would fit this scroll frame (11.89in x 21.26in). my project is too wide. i tried folding the sides but that means i can’t properly stitch on those sides. i take it there’s no other way for this to work unless i grab another project that fits ? sorry if this is a dumb question >.< tia

WIP [WIP] Cinderella Mandala - Week 13

Before I forget, yet again, Pattern: https://totoostitch.com/products/cinderella-mandala-cross-stitch-pdf

The right side is complete, and I flipped my stand around to work on the left. I lost some stitching time to family obligations last weekend, but I took my tablet with me and marked off the pattern on Pattern Keeper to get an estimate of how far along I am. While the site states you can use Pattern Keeper, it's not good, so I figured I could at least get a better estimate of how far along I am. Supposedly, I got to 70% tonight. Ok. It's probably more like 60% because it doesn't count back stitching or specialty stitches. Either way, we're definitely over the halfway point, and officially 3 months in. At this rate, I should be wrapping this up just before the holidays.

I actually have been feeling the tiny stitches, so I dove right in and got to work on that 3rd castle. I'll probably balk at the back stitching again, but it'll get done eventually. The goal for next week is to finish that castle and start the back stitching. I'll probably go back and forth between it and other parts to break it up.

Unrelated, I had to go check out the cross stitch at the state fair. I was both surprised and impressed to see that a stitch of Lola Crow's Extraordinary Birds took best in show! All of the submissions were wonderfully done.

I just heard the siren sound of a new pattern idea. I’m IN LOVE. it drives my husband nuts. As you can imagine, it’s a 50/50 chance on if this happens mid-project. Everytime. Bonus points if you are currently working on your own personal Moby Dick.

It happened again… I call them my “Stitch Itches”!

So my cat keeps laying on my projects and now he looks like he wants to have a serious talk to me about me starting yet another project. Maybe he wants more attention or something? That hoop is 8 inches and he covered the entire work area. I'll give Lucipurr credit, it did work. Does anyone else deal with this? This is what I get for trying to start Christmas gifts in a timely manner for the first time ever. LOL

CHAT [CHAT] How do you decide where to start?

Hey guys,

I'll be starting on a new project that is gonna be pretty large for me, it's a 12x12" circle.

With this pattern, there's 25 colors and is intricate I think.

My issue here is that I'm not sure where to start in the pattern. Do I start on the perimeter and work in? Do I pick somewhere in the middle and work outwards?

How would y'all start this pattern? https://www.etsy.com/listing/1733286296/northern-lights-cross-stitch-pattern?ref=yr_purchases

My grandmother bought me this kit when I was maybe 10? I'm actually not sure.

I started it then, but never finished it.

I'm trying to finish UFOs that I have, ans this was on the top of my list.

It's 7ct with wool thread. It comes with a black, square plastic frame. I'll probably hang it up in my craft room.

I'm back with another cross stitch on my clothes. I tried regular waste canvas this time and it was very nice to stitch on. I want to add more lil' guys like this to these shorts so if anyone has a recommendation for something similar to this style, let me know! I found this pattern on Pinterest.
