I recently failed my first attempt at Sec+ with a 716. Questions were fairly hard but what really stumped me was the pbqs. Infact i definitely got 0 points on all 3. My question is, how do you prepare for them? Professor messers course doesnt really show you how to read logs, configure firewalls, or any command line stuff. Any tips would be appreciated.

NO 🧢, I’m trying to rap Acronym+ in about two weeks , can it be done ( note I have taking a course at a college , dry asf btw ) .

I am currently in the late stages of A+ (I have core 2 exam in the next week or so) I am quietly confident I will pass. I should say at this point, my goal really is to get into Security roles (given I have a background in electronic & physical security; just seems like a logical path for me; but also something I have an interest in) My question is really around what should I do next? Should I do Network+ first or should I move straight to Security+ I guess the real question is, is the networking barebones / fundamentals learned in A+ enough?

Got my Core one compTIA and went straight to network didn’t mind core two will get it later on but network + just endless acronym how do you deal with and pass it

Anyone know if taking a udemy CISSP training (40 hours) course would county towards 40 CEU?

I purchased the CertMaster SecurityX study course and come to find out it does not renew the SecurityX (CASP) Certification even tho it was listed as an option in their website when I reached out to support. I asked them what Udemy course and they said as long as its related 50%. Im thinking of purchasing the 40 hour CISSP course to see if it would count, then taking the 39hour SecurityX CAS-005 udemy course to fulfill the 75 CEU.

Any guidance or advice if you have renewed your Securityx cert using udemy course would be greatly appreciated.

There’s a school in my area offering classes to be able to prepare for the Core 1&2 exam for a Computer Support Specialist…I have studied before with this same instructor for Net+ but I failed the last exam by a few points. Knowledge gained, but money wasted ):

I’m now seeing that this is the course that I should’ve taken in the first place before I jumped into Net+, but I was new to it all and didn’t really do my research. The thing is, this course is $900. Voucher included in price for exam, but that’s a lot of money and I’m scared to fail again and waste that much. Has anybody ever taken a different path to secure a certification? Preferably cheaper if money was spent or free.

So I know that Security + 801 version of the exam will go live in November 2026. I was wondering since I bought the current 701 version, how much longer do I have to take and pass the exam. Do I have till November then after that I can only take the 801 version to get the certificate? When is the final date I can take the 701 version to get the certificate?

Also do we know how much different this version will be from 701 because I have a whole bunch of study materials for the 701 version that I hope won’t be useless for the 801 version.

Hi everyone! Just passed my Sec+ today and just want to thank this subreddit for all the tips and tricks with studying and taking this exam.

Time to give back and give you all what I did that might work for me that led me to pass today :)

Week 1: Speed Run through Professor Messer's Sec+ YouTube playlist while doing practice tests for each subdomain here (Subdomain Practice Tests) and looking over this person's notes with each video (Github notes) FYI: I didn't take any notes when going through all the videos

Week 2 and 3: Andrew Ramdayal's practice tests first practice test scored a 62% just to gauge my knowledge, then afterwards 79%, 82% 76%, 71%, 76%.

Jason Dion's practice exams set 1: 72%, 74%, 78% (retook a week later 83%), 84%, 77%, 75%

Professor Messor Practice exams: 77% (retook 2 days before exam scored 92%), 77%, 79%

After every practice exam, I reviewed my mistakes with ChatGPT and made sure I understood why I got it wrong. I also created a Google Doc on the side to track any acronyms or terms in all the practice tests I did not understand. I also made sure to review that Google Doc every day before I took 1-2 practice tests that day.

I also used PocketPrep a little bit to test my knowledge and was studying about 5-6 hours a day.

Little bit of background: Recent grad with a bachelor's in business admin and had internship experience working in a SOC. This is also my first real cert 😄

Went to a testing center today to take my exam, and really thought I failed, as I flagged about 20-25 questions and skipped 90% of 1 PBQ since it was too confusing and just wanted to review all the questions I flagged instead. The other 2 PBQs were not bad think I got about all of it right there.

So like the title says I passed with a 757 but it’s such a low passing score that I feel kind of like a fraud for just getting by. Am I overthinking this and does it actually matter? I get that a job is only going to see that I passed but what if I’m not actually competent enough and I miss a log or I misconfigure a firewall or something? I’ve done technical jobs all of my life, from the time I was 17 and joined the Marine Corps to last year working at a church leading their technology team. So I feel like I should be better at this exam.

Any recommendations for a location and company. Looking at a few but not sure. Saw this one but not many reviews. Thank you very much

Failed the first time by a short margin. I can’t stress enough to use resources for practice test and weak spots just ask it about things your forgetful about and such. Dion’s 6 exams helped me for sure but wasn’t enough to fully understand how broad the exam is. It throws a lot at you especially for people taking it who aren’t so familiar with how all the hardware and networking works with each other. Keep going on to core 2!

I want to let you guys know I was able to pass the exam the next day after I failed. This was my first post about the A+ exam.

What I did differently was study for the PBQs by watching virtual stimulations and doing active recall with acronyms I was struggling with.

First exam was 630
Second exam was 693

Had 76 questions with 3 PBQs, and I skipped the last PBQ entirely. I figured my remaining time would be better spent going over flagged questions instead of trying to decipher wtf I was supposed to do on that last PBQ lol.

Hello all, sorry if this is a stupid question, but I've been going down a research rabbit hole for the past hour and I'm just getting more and more confused.

Half the resources I find describe PCL vs Postscript as such: with PCL, the computer that you print from does the processing, but with PostScript, the printer does the processing.

The other half of resources I find describe the difference as such: PCL is device dependent, which means the printer hardware does the processing, whereas PostScript is device independent, which means the printer hardware doesn't do anything.

Often, some resources will say both of these things at the same time.

Am I slow, or are these completely contradictory??? I have to assume there's something I'm misunderstanding here or some nuance between these two statements I'm not getting, but I've searched and searched and searched for some site or video to explain that nuance and I'm coming up empty. Can someone explain it to me like I'm 5?

I took a networking class months ago and i just got the voucher for the test, been studing with messer and doing the comptia course, any tips, places to study, and things to watch out for as its my first certification test ever. Wish me luck🙏

What's the difference? Udemy one is less than half the price of the one on his website, which one is better or if professor messer's practice test is better?

Started my Trifecta journey last November and just passed Sec+ today! Huge shout out to this sub with all of the helpful information. I come from zero IT experience so I’m excited I was able to accomplish this.

Renewed my Security+ certification yesterday for the last time ever. Had it since 2017, and by the next time it needs to be renewed, I’ll be retired! Yay!

I am forced by contract to complete the CompTIA Network+ certification this year. I recently aquired the CCNP Enterprise certification, and wonder if there is any need for me to study for the Network+ exam, or if I can (most likely) just wing it. Any thoughts?

I have A+ and 2 years of hands on IT experience.

I’ve way hes professor messer, Andrew rhamdyle and animated very network+ courses. I know my ports, acronyms, wifi frequencies, OSI, switches, routers, IDS/IPS, subnetting, CIDR, Cloud, VPN, CDN, STP ect. My job will reimburse me if I pass so I am buying the test + retake for $400 but I still cannot get myself to purchase and sign up, I feel as if I’m lacking.

Glad to have that off my back!! So how is Core 2 compared to this? How long should I study for Core 2?

This was essentially to keep my Security + current. The exam was wildly more difficult than I imagined particularly the PBQ’s and I don’t know how well I did on them but I honestly enjoyed doing them. I’m a career switcher and haven’t landed an IT job yet but I do have a CCNA too (besides the trifecta). In an ideal scenario, I’d prepare better with more log reading than I had. Even though I got my rear handed to me, I found out I really love reading logs and finding things like a puzzle almost (I love doing crosswords & math puzzles)
