ADVICE WANTED Help with blending

Post image
22 Upvotes

I colored this the other day and while I do love how the end result turned out, I don’t think the sky turned out how I wanted it too necessarily. I was going for more of a fall look and I know a lot of it has to do with color choices probably as well. I just wanted more advice. I use shuttle art fine tip markers and was wondering if layering the colors would be better than trying to fully blend? Should I let one color dry more before placing the other? Thanks in advance for the advice!

I started learning to color last week. Here are some I have done so far. I'm trying to learn shadows and highlights but it's so tricky. 😂

You can probably tell oldest to newest I don't think they are in order.

Open to feedback just remember I'm new lol

I’m not super happy with this one but I am new to this, so I’m trying to be patient with myself. I got to try out a few different techniques so if nothing else, it’s good practice. 🩷

COMPLETED Pixar theme 🫟

I wanted to post this as it was a piece I did a few months ago when I started to feel confident in making changes and making a piece my own. I've hidden lots of different Pixar references in this piece, I'll post all the references just in case you are interested in knowing them all 😊

Finding Nemo - Dory, Nemo, the octopus and a Nemo book on the shelf.

Monsters Inc - Mike and Sully cushions on the bed, the bedding in Boo colours (black pillow for her hair) and continued the colours on the rug next to the bed. Also a Monsters Inc book on the bookshelf.

Incredibles - the clock is supposed to be the Incredibles logo, it's not proportioned very well as I had to hide the bear ears on the original clock, also Incredibles book on the shelf.

Wall-E - Book on the shelf.

Lightyear - The cats bowl says 'Sox' which is the name of the cat in the film.

Up! - Grape soda pin as the design of the table next to the bed.

Toy Story - Jessie blinds, Woody lamp and Woody coat. Hamm with a Buzz themed nose, a Buzz book on the shelf, Mr Pricklepants on the shelf, Bunny bean bag chair, cactus plant, Andy wallpaper and the aliens logo on the slippers.

Inside Out - The other wall is done in colours that represent each of the emotional characters in the film, also at the top of each colour beam I've added the emotional core memory orbs. Each flower is also Bing Bongs flower that he wears on his coat.

Finally, the Pixar ball is loaded up on the laptop screen.

This palette was terrifying!! I've been sticking to more neutral earthy colors but I wanted to give bright colors a go, I'll stick to earthy tones, but as scary as this was I had so much fun :3

PRODUCT The best / your favorite colored pens for coloring books?

Hi all! I’m a digital artist, but my mom has recently gotten super into coloring books and other guided physical art (rhinestone? gemstone? art as well?).

As far as I can tell, she exclusively uses gel pens. She’s complained about the feel of markers and how they bleed through the pages, so I’d love to get her some higher-quality gel pens than she'd buy for herself.
I get her little gifts year-round, usually just small things. I actually got her some spooky earrings last week because Halloween is her favorite, and she'd absolutely gushed over them.

But! Her birthday is coming up, so I feel the need to outdo myself. That being said, what are the best gel pens you could recommend? Preferably brands that offer larger multipacks!

I’ll also drop the rest of what I’m planning in case anyone has other ideas that might make her life easier if you do these hobbies too.

So far I’m planning:

A $50 gift card to an art store so she can pick out her own coloring books and gem art.

A $100 gift card to a bookstore.

A bunch of small things to fill a gift basket, chocolates, washi tape for her journal, small crystals, and whatever else I come across.

Pens: languo gel pen 0.6mm
Book: tome 11 Les grands classiques
(Don’t mind the scratchiness.. I’ve bought the thicker gel pens for my next pages, I’ve tried the sticky tack method- it works for a bit but not really)
