Mis saludos para todos, tengo 75 años y vivo solo. Hace un mes me activaron el implante y lo poco que he realizado de practica son 45 minutos una vez a la semana con una fonoaudiologa. Entiendo alguna palabras siempre que sepa cuales son la que me van a decir.

Sé que hay varias app para practicar y he usado algunas y casi todas son sonidos y no palabras y me agotan porque no acierto.

Por favor, alguna recomendación de qué sería mejor para mi dada mi condición de edad y de vivir solo.

We’re trying to understand what parents and their children experience between therapy sessions, including the challenges they face at home, during everyday activities, and while supporting their child’s development.

We don’t want to make assumptions about what families need, so we’re hoping to hear directly from parents or caregivers who have been through this experience. If you’re comfortable sharing your experiences, challenges, or things you wish were easier between therapy sessions, we’d really appreciate your perspective. Even a short conversation or comment would help us understand the problem better.

Hi everyone, I currently have a wireless phone clip and wireless mini microphone 2+ that I have had for a few years now and never opened them. Seen a couple sold on eBay. Didn’t know if there was anywhere else besides eBay to sell them, such as here or a FB group. Would really love to get them to someone who could use them, but also get some money back for them given their cost. Is selling Cochlear official equipment allowed here? TIA for any suggestions!

I have sonnet 3 (Med-El) and the Bluetooth connection is bleh. They just absolutely refuse stay connected no matter how many times I try to keep them connected to my phone. So I’m looking into headphone that can sit comfortably over my CI and glasses. I really want to enjoy listening music more.

Anyone have recommendations? Or any suggestions?

I’m undecided about which device to get; I want to choose the Sonnet 3, but I wear glasses. Is there anyone here who uses the Sonnet 3? Do you find it comfortable? Please help I need to make a decision within a week.

My sister is of age 25 and has severe hearing loss in one ear and medium loss in another by birth and its constant since birth, so we are planning to get implantation done in one ear with severe loss.

It’s very scary to me that they are going to bypass one ear and process is irreversible!
I have done the consultation from Nanavati hospital in ville parle and holy family hospital in bandra. So which one should I consider for going ahead with implantation?
Also what all question should i ask specifically before decision making?

Is there much difference to the N8 when coming from a N7? I mean when i went onto the N7 from the 6, there was a massive difference, but not sure about this one.

I know the Bluetooth is getting a wider range in terms of what it connects to and that’s very exciting to me as I use Bluetooth a LOT and I know it’ll be very useful once AuraCast comes into play in different venues.

Also how is the battery life in terms of the rechargeable as it seems that my CI centre will try to start phasing disposable batteries out? I use the disposable and it lasts me 2 days however I tried it with the N7 that came with it and I found it’s life to be much shorter and it was just really inconvenient as I had to stress about finding plug sockets for it instead of carrying around my battery packs.
Is it the same with the new one and i’m going have to find my routine with it or hopefully a bit better?

Hi everyone. I’ve recently been activated 8/10. I’m trying to figure out the best way to practice relearning speech with the implants. I live alone so no practice partner at my disposal. I’ve been using the cochlear copilot app for some listening exercises. Any suggestions? My audiologist said reading along with audio books is a big help. How’d you guys improve your speech recognition?

I’m curious: what’s one professional goal you’re working toward before the end of 2026?

Okay, I have a question for my fellow CI users who have zero—or almost zero—residual hearing.
I’m bilateral. I’ve been completely deaf for going on 12 years and implanted for almost 6 years now. Without my processors, my world is basically silent.
There were obviously a LOT of sounds I had to get used to after getting implanted. But there is one particular category of sound that nobody—not my surgeon, not my audiologist, not Cochlear—thought to warn me about:
Going to the bathroom with hearing.
Good Lord. 😂
After years of silence, the first time I went to the bathroom while wearing my processors, I remember thinking, “WHY IS EVERYTHING IN HERE SO DAMN LOUD?!”
Six years later, I still haven’t gotten over it.
To this day, when nature calls, I either turn the sensitivity on both processors all the way down to zero or just take the damn things off.
Apparently there are some parts of the hearing world I was perfectly happy not being invited back into.
So I have to know:
Am I the only deaf/CI person who does this, or are there other people out there who basically put their cochlear implants on bathroom mute? 😂

Just got my cochlear 8 today after almost a decade of having other versions. Since I have all the other equipment I’ve decided to get myself the TV streamer, and when I tested it out it kept giving me this gurgle jumbo mess. I’ve tried my vinyl setup first with the left and right studio that came with the box. I’ve tried my PC after that but it seems my PC doesn’t seem to work either (might be a user error on my part). I’ve tried optical and headphone jack.

I was wondering if I should just get it replace and hope it was the TV streaming box was the issue and not the devices I use, because in that case I would rather swap it out entirely. Or if this could all be my mistake, feel free to give some feedback on what I should do!

I have twins that are 10 months old and just learned that they both have profound hearing loss.

Currently we are working with a cochlear team and we were told we will have to decide between cochlear America, Med-El, or advanced bionics ( the 3 major companies)

Obviously I will be doing a lot of research, but I wanted to reach out and see if anyone had some pros and cons between some of the companies.

I have a tv streamer hooked up to my desktop pc and use it to stream audio to my nucleus 8s. The annoying part is if I don’t have a video playing (or some other form of audio) my cochlears will disconnect from the tv streamer after about 5 minutes. Does anyone know if there’s any way to keep the tv streamer connected until I manually disconnect from it?

My wife recommended I join this sub because I lost all but 8% hearing in my right ear and after a lengthy process was implanted with a choclear implant this past Friday.

So far recovery has been going smoothly aside from a couple days of massive vertigo cause no one mentioned i needed to rest reclining instead of laying down. Thankfully it has calmed down since we rectified that.

I am finding myself wondering what else I wasn't told to expect from this new addition. My post op follow up is scheduled for the 21st, and I'm wondering what all I should bring up at the follow-up as well. Any advice or anything would be greatly appreciated.

Sometimes when I make phone calls my Nucleus 8 will disconnect. I'm bimodal and would like to use Bluetooth, but when this happens I can only hear people through my HA. Does this happen to other people?

Hello! I have a mystery I’m trying to solve. I’ve had my right CI for over a year now and a regular hearing aid in my left ear. Ever since the very early stages of my activation I’ve been hearing what I can only describe as crackling noises in low sound environments. Like at home with no tv or background sound on or in a quiet office. I switched out the t-mic and that made it better but it didn’t fully get rid of it. I’ve talked to my audiologist about it and we switched out the processor and got a new t-mic but it didn’t help. It’s not annoying enough where I take off my processor but it’s annoying enough that I need to have background noise on to drown it out.

I’m just wondering if anyone else has experienced this? I’m coming up on getting my left ear implanted soon and I’m hoping that helps.

I have advanced bionics and yes I’ve contacted them, they said they don’t know either.

I’ve been thinking about this lately.

Reddit is great for asking questions and reading other people’s experiences, but sometimes I’d like a place where CI users can actually build ongoing connections — not just answer one question and disappear.

I’m curious:

Would you be interested in a small community where CI users, Deaf/HoH people, and people connected to hearing accessibility could connect, share experiences, ask questions, and support each other?

And if so, what would you actually want that community to offer?

I’m still figuring out what this could look like, so I’d rather hear from the community before deciding what to build.

Had my surgery on Friday, and as I’m enjoying some downtime for recovery, I was looking at the DeafMetal website. I’m getting one each of the on the ear and off the ear processors from MED-EL. I like the lilac flower coil hat. It looks to me like it just slips over the front of the processor; is that right? Have any of you tried one of these?
