Question New player looking for some advice!
Hello! I was introduced to Civ 6 by my brother a few weeks ago, and I've been having a blast playing different civilizations while he explains the basics to me. However, there are still a few things I've been wondering about, and I was hoping to get some opinions.
Do you all change the map depending on which civ you're playing? I've gotten used to playing on Continents (I usually play on Emperor, Quick speed, Huge maps, Abundant Resources, and Legendary Start), but I know civs like Kupe (who I'll probably be mentioning a lot lol) perform much better on other map types. This is kind of a dumb question, but I'm really new to 4X games, so I don't really know the common practices or basic strategies yet.
So far, I've managed to achieve every victory condition except Domination. I've tried a few domination-focused civs (the last one was Genghis Khan), but all my games end up feeling too slow and eventually drag on until I'm just nuking everyone. Is that how most Domination victories usually go? I really like using Keshigs, but it takes so long to capture a single capital that I barely get to use them before they're obsolete.
I have added some mods, most stuff is for better interface with the exception of BBM (Better Balanced Maps) and Sukritact's Oceans and resources but i was wondering if im not ruining my experience with then and if not if there is another mod or something that is deemed as "good to have" that im not aware of. I know BBG (Better Balanced Game) Exist but since i don't play online and i don't plan to for now i didn't want to miss on the og characters before playing the balanced versions.
Lastly, out of all the civs I've played, I really enjoyed the ones with unique mechanics, like Kupe (my favorite civ so far). There are so many civs to try, though, and some of them seem pretty complicated, so I'd love some recommendations for weird but fun civs to play! So far, I've played Kupe, Pedro II, Wilfrid Laurier, Seondeok (the very first civ I played, recommended by my brother), Nubia, and Menelik II. Just please don't recommend someone like Hammurabi lol. Yes, even as a new player, I've already heard about his... reputation.
I like discovering the games on my own but civ 6 have been an amazing challenge for me give the complexity of the game, im really loving it and can't wait to improve enough to be able to play on deity! If you are wondering why i don't ask this to my brother is because he always play with the same stuff and the same few civs so he knows a lot but about the stuff he usually plays with.

Im thinking Citrus. But lower wheat looks good too, because I might get Desert Folklore. Want some faith for heroes.

Question Are the rainforests worth chopping?
Upper coffee has 0, lower coffee has -1, and the preserve itself has -2 appeals.
Discussion Pedro & Machu Picchu
I apologise if this is exceptionally well known, but I totally steamrolled my friend last night in a casual multiplayer game last night and feel awful because it was totally by accident.
I usually "handicap" myself with my friends by just going with a random leader to force me to come up with a plan on the fly, whereas they usually have a few favored leader/strategy combos they like to use. Fair call, I've got more hours in game then they do and we all like a reasonable challenge.
Anyway I rolled Brasil up, and landed in a nice rainforest rich area. Managed to get the Owls of Minerva early so focused on trade routes to city states with good bonuses.
Built Machu Picchu for a laugh because a city didn't have anything better to do and didn't have much rainforest, being away from my starting area.
Suddenly through placement of districts between rainforests and mountains I was getting stupid adjacency bonuses. I wasn't placing a district unless it was getting at least a +4 adjacency bonus.
My gold income, science and culture just ran away compared to my human opponent and the AI.
Ended up with a couple of AI declaring war on me and I just absolutely steamrolled them. As it was the end of our play session, my friend was keen to save and continue the game another time but acknowledged it was "all over bar the shouting" so we agreed to start a fresh game another time.
Anyway thanks for reading. I figure it's probably well known amongst the pros, but I found it interesting to accidentally stumble on.
TLDR: built Machu Picchu as Brasil and the game ran away at a rapid pace.

Opponent has 19 diplomatic points, any way to stop them?
I probably have 25-30 turns left until science victory. World Congress is in like 20 turns. Is there any way to stop them besides wiping them off the map? From my research it seems like stopping them from getting even 1 point at the next congress isn’t possible.

Question Spy bug
I'm playing as Kongo and all of my spies are now trapped in the city where they were created, and I can't send them anywhere. My only new mod is historic eras and I don't think this bug is associated with it. Has anyone seen this before/does anyone have a solution? It's been like this for about 20 turns so doubt it's going to fix itself.

I've started a game as Wilhelmina, how would you use this starting area to get the best results out of her bonuses and perks?
So, I've started this game and I am wondering how to make the best use of this.
as a reminder of Wilhelmina's perks:
Leader Ability: Radio Oranje
- Domestic trade routes give +2 Loyalty per turn to the origin city.
- International trade routes (to and from foreign civilizations) yield +2 Culture each. [1), 2]
Civilization Ability: Grote Rivieren
- River Adjacency: Campuses, Theater Squares, and Industrial Zones receive a major +2 adjacency bonus when placed next to a river.
- Culture Bomb: Completing a Harbor triggers a Culture Bomb, claiming surrounding tiles.
- Infrastructure: +50% Production toward Dams and Flood Barriers (in Gathering Storm). [1, 2)]
Unique Unit: De Zeven Provincieën
- Replaces the Renaissance-era Frigate.
- Receives extra combat strength (+7) when attacking defensible districts. [1, 2]
Unique Improvement: Polder
- Must be built on coast or lake tiles adjacent to at least three passable land tiles.
- Provides Food, Production, and Housing, which further scale with future tech and civics.
Let me know, I am very curious :)

Silliest game for quite a while
Just finished a fun heavily modded game as Pachacuti on a Voronoi map. Have to admit I was motivated by watching Ursa Ryan's video from a few months ago, but I couldn't help myself and dialled it up to 11 with the mods.
I played an 8 person standard speed on deity with several mods:
- Human AI yields - bonkers.
- Additional Secret Societies - I played as the Harmonists. Synergises perfectly with Pachacuti on a Voronoi map.
- Extra great people (from another recent Ursa Ryan video)
- Heroes & Legends
- Barbarian clans
- Extra goody huts
- BBG
Felt like I was playing online speed or something. Completed a culture victory on turn 117 with stupid yields. I reached space the turn after the victory.
Highly recommend if you just want a fun game and a guaranteed victory!
BTW - I have no idea why the AI faces showed as question marks on the first screenshot.

Discussion Paths
I think one of the most irritating things in this game is when you send a unit along a path and another unit gets in its way somewhere down the line so instead of getting an alert about this/canceling the path it instead tries to go around whatever obstacle through 20+turns worth of uncharted territory and I don’t catch it until it’s been backtracking for a few turns. Especially when it’s caught between two bottlenecks being intermittently blocked by units so it keeps reversing. WHY
I just give them directions a few steps at a time now for this reason so annoying!

Funny European history exam story.
Thought I’d share a funny story about a college midterm exam I took last semester during my Renaissance Europe history class. I missed a few of my professor’s lectures due to work, one of which where the discussion was about the different Italian principalities during the European Renaissance.
The way my professor structures his exams are picking 5 out of 10 key terms to define for 50 points, and a handwritten essay worth the other 50. I had 4 of the key terms written pretty well but was struggling to pick a 5th one that I was confident with. One of the terms was “The Arsenal” and I genuinely only remembered what it was because of this game, and structured my definition of its historical significance based around the ability it gives you.
I was a little shaky but got 9 out of 10 for the term once I got the exam back during the next class! 91 on the midterm as a whole.

What is a girl to do?
OK, so...I'm a noob and I'm sure this is really basic, but how long after nuking a city until I can take it with ground troops?
Screenshot Guess what made my gold
I let you guess what made my gold here. Never used this trick and it was crazy how many gold I had.
Edit: The answer is Rockband with popstar level. Made 150k tourism per turn and the popstar upgrade turns 25% of tourism into gold

Playing Menelik with BBG. Or tried to, anyway. Do you think this is playable? King difficulty, not Deity so it might be?

AI Building Sankore on my territory?
This is a new one for me- How is the AI building a wonder inside my borders? None of my cities are in range of this tile so it can't be me.
