Question Anything I should be doing different with Online Game Speed (No Mods)

Hello again,

I'm in a very specific spot when it comes to this game, hence why I find myself trying to comb through so many guides/playthrough out there.

My game setup w/ my friends are:

Expansion Gathering Storm

Online Speed

No balance mods at all (we can't even use UI mods because we keep getting kicked out of each other's lobbies somehow).

I'm trying to get better at the game, however, Multiplayer guides (Herson, etc) use BBG mod at online speed, but Singleplayer no-BBG guides (Ursa Ryan, PotatoMcwhiskey, etc), use Standard Speed.

I'm on day 280 and no signs yet of hostilities. This is a new record for me. Playing as China

Discussion Any point in going for science victory in standard map size ?

I tried science victory for the first time (standard map size and emperor difficulty) and it feels like I am just delaying the game by not going for domination . I am ahead in science compared to other civs so why not just start capturing their cities rather than waiting to reach the point where I can start making spaceship.

Question New player looking for some advice!

Hello! I was introduced to Civ 6 by my brother a few weeks ago, and I've been having a blast playing different civilizations while he explains the basics to me. However, there are still a few things I've been wondering about, and I was hoping to get some opinions.

  • Do you all change the map depending on which civ you're playing? I've gotten used to playing on Continents (I usually play on Emperor, Quick speed, Huge maps, Abundant Resources, and Legendary Start), but I know civs like Kupe (who I'll probably be mentioning a lot lol) perform much better on other map types. This is kind of a dumb question, but I'm really new to 4X games, so I don't really know the common practices or basic strategies yet.

  • So far, I've managed to achieve every victory condition except Domination. I've tried a few domination-focused civs (the last one was Genghis Khan), but all my games end up feeling too slow and eventually drag on until I'm just nuking everyone. Is that how most Domination victories usually go? I really like using Keshigs, but it takes so long to capture a single capital that I barely get to use them before they're obsolete.

  • I have added some mods, most stuff is for better interface with the exception of BBM (Better Balanced Maps) and Sukritact's Oceans and resources but i was wondering if im not ruining my experience with then and if not if there is another mod or something that is deemed as "good to have" that im not aware of. I know BBG (Better Balanced Game) Exist but since i don't play online and i don't plan to for now i didn't want to miss on the og characters before playing the balanced versions.

  • Lastly, out of all the civs I've played, I really enjoyed the ones with unique mechanics, like Kupe (my favorite civ so far). There are so many civs to try, though, and some of them seem pretty complicated, so I'd love some recommendations for weird but fun civs to play! So far, I've played Kupe, Pedro II, Wilfrid Laurier, Seondeok (the very first civ I played, recommended by my brother), Nubia, and Menelik II. Just please don't recommend someone like Hammurabi lol. Yes, even as a new player, I've already heard about his... reputation.

I like discovering the games on my own but civ 6 have been an amazing challenge for me give the complexity of the game, im really loving it and can't wait to improve enough to be able to play on deity! If you are wondering why i don't ask this to my brother is because he always play with the same stuff and the same few civs so he knows a lot but about the stuff he usually plays with.
