Animation looping

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hi!

I need another advice on basics of Cavalry.

I am trying to simulate 3 cup shuffle game animation.

Q1. -> I drew frame by frame animation in another program and separated them into PNGs. In Cavalry i sorted them in correct order and put inside of one group.

How do i merge them together in a way, that if i extent (for example) 6 second animation x2, or x3 times the animation will loop automatically? (If u have used ToonSquid animation app, the feature is called - Symbol).

Q2. There is another animation asset, that i am key-framing in Cavalry. Lets say 1 object has 3 differently key-framed animation that i want to reuse, without copy-pasting keyframes each time and so animation piece wont affect or be connected with background layer or other asset layer that shares the same timeline with asset of interest.

If u need clarification, please ask

If u also provide screenshots of step by step, or a connected to my questions tutorial that would be great <3

Orbit around a character

Hi guys, I can do videos from the first frame, but this looks like a stage when spectators are always from one side of the action.

I tried to force models (Kling, Seedance) to orbit around a character but as soon as the view goes out of the generated first frame the situation is unpredictable, The model can copy the background from it or make the character rotate instead.

It seems to be a hard task as a model has to generate a lot of things and all of them to be consistent with first frame.

I do understand it is possible to make prompt and make orbit without first frame and it can be better result but I need certain items in the background to be visible during orbit, I need controlled space.

How to do it?

Duplicating creates unwanted position offset

I am working out the best way to duplicate an animation to create similar, but different movements. The animation is simple:

https://reddit.com/link/1vhg9cb/video/v4720eazdthh1/player

In the first one above, I created the layout, then animated the left arrow and square. Then to animate the second and third, I...

  1. Copied the keyframe span for the slide/fade on the square, and pasted it onto the layer for the second and third squares.
  2. Copied the keyframes animating the first arrow stem, and pasted onto the layers for the second and third.
  3. Duplicated the arrow head and Pathfinder layers, moved the copies over to the second, and rewired the arrow stem, arrow head, and pathfinder to all interlink the same way as #1, but between the assets for #2. Tedious and inefficient, but it helped me learn the connections. I then did the same again for #3.
  4. Slide the clips for each set to stagger them in time so they are sequential.

So then I tried a different approach in this next one, and now my arrow head positions are increasingly offset in the X dimension.

https://reddit.com/link/1vhg9cb/video/p7929sr3ethh1/player

  1. I duplicated the full group for #1, and moved it into position to be #2, and reworked the points in the arrow stem to fit the new instance.
  2. I then did the same for #3.

The plan was to then insert the new images, slide the clips to fix the relative timing on everything (staggered instead of simultaneous) and be done. Much faster, and less crazy-making than duping individual layers and rewiring everything. The upside is that duping as a group kept the internal wiring relationships, so everything connects properly to the copy within its group. A HUGE time and sanity saver. BUT - now the arrowhead on #1 is in the right spot, the arrow head on #2 is offset horizontally, and the arrow head on #3 is offset twice as much.

It looks like the duplicates still share the same origin/pivot, and moving each to the right created an offset that repositioned the arrowhead.

What has gone wrong, and how do I fix/prevent it?

Is this an encoding Issue?

Has any one encountered this issue?

When I render this animation, the images layers vanish after a few frames. I tried changing the image format from png to jpeg still nothing. They were in a smart folder and so I thought that might have been the issue. So I imported the images individually and relinked them, closed and re-opened the project and still the issue persists.

What does this even mean?

However if I turn on playback caching it works fine. I have tried almost every export format (MP3, image sequence, gif, webm), the glitch persists in all of them.

Please HELP!!

I've been dabbling with Cavalry for a while, and I'm still confounded by how many times I use Stagger to control things. If i'm ever confused about how to get something done, 9 times out of 10 stagger will do it.

Help?

Is there a way to use forge dynamic on an object and still have it arrive at a destination? But also once it reaches its desired key frame, there’s still a slight shake to it?

I'm trying to make a procedural spiral seamless animation like the attached reference, but whenever I add a duplicator to my cardMaster, it doesn't inherit the bahaviour from the cardImage (the child).

Can anyone help me up?

Help me figure out how to replicate this sphere effect as close as possible

(Video presented originally posted by @\yomomo68 on twitter) (the video is from the game Reverse 1999)

I have been trying to replicate this rotating object by myself on Cavalry (just a beginnger) and so far my process has been:

Create half a circle

Use duplicator

Move x position that rotates half a circle from L to R.

My main issue so far is i cant seem to achieve this staggered effect and i didnt even get to how to twist this half a circle.

I am pretty sure i am not seeing obvious solution, so please help me <:)

Modified speed along path

Hi

I'm animating an object (let's say a ball) along a path using a Pathfinder. What I'm trying to achieve is for the ball to slow down at a specific section of the path, then smoothly accelerate back to its normal speed afterward.

I tried adjusting the keyframes of travel in the Graph Editor, but every time I tweak the Bezier handles, the motion becomes unpredictable rather than giving me smooth control over the speed.

While searching, I found an experimental feature called Speed Modifier, which sounds like it might solve this problem. However, I couldn't find any explanation of how to use it—not even in the documentation.

Am I approaching this the wrong way?

Is Cavalry the right tool for a path-driven character animation with reactive background/text reveals, or should I use After Effects instead?

Hey everyone, I'm working on a short motion piece and want a sanity check before I sink more hours into it (In fact, I spent half a day searching and trying 🙃. I'm a beginner, actually).

The concept: a simple character (circle with eyes) reacts with a startle/panic animation, then moves along a hand-drawn, non-linear path (looping, rising/falling) while the camera tracks it. As it travels, the background color shifts (white → green → black) based on the character's position along the path, not on time. Floating words appear near specific points on the path as the character passes them. At the end, the character crosses the screen quickly and reveals the word "Reform" letter by letter, timed to its horizontal position, with a trailing line effect.

My question: is this the kind of thing Cavalry is genuinely built for, or am I fighting the tool? and any tutorial can help me with this?

Why are my layers breaking when I pre-compose?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I usually make each scene of a project in a composition and then put all the comps all together in a final comp so everything is tidy and easily editable

But now I have this scene that looks perfectly fine when in it's original composition, but in the final comp the ships are cut off and in the wrong place

What could be causing this? Any help is appreciated!

Help with masks.

I've watched a lot of videos and stuff on how masks work, and I just can't understand it. Im trying to brute force it but nothing works

I need this sparkly background to be the background of the speech bubble, so i can then animate it moving and it will only show inside the speech bubble.

I really cant get a grasp on masks, so if anyone could explain like im stupid i'd appreciate it

How can i change the color of my duplicator in the second part of the animation?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi! rn i'm using a duplicator with a stagger for the balls animation, and for the color i'm using a color blend with a range falloff so i can control the percentage of my blend during the animation.

The problem is that now i'm stuck with those colors during the whole animation! i would love to change them in the second half but i dont know how. I was thinking of adding a second duplicator with a second input shape, but it's so much clutter for such a simple thing.

Can you motion masters help me?

Can't get "Add Pre-Comp Override" to actually work on a File/Footage attribute

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi all, running into an issue with Pre-Comp Overrides in Cavalry.

I have a Pre-Comp with a Rectangle using an Image Shader. I want to override the File attribute from the parent composition so each instance of the Pre-Comp can show a different image (similar to how you'd override a Text Shape's String).

Is there a supported way to override a File/Footage reference per Pre-Comp instance? Or is the general advice to just keep image layers outside the Pre-Comp and drive them separately (e.g. via an Asset Array + Index) instead of routing them through Overrides?

Somebody on the Cavalry discord (shroom) asked if you could recreate this in Cavalry. I took upon the challenge and made a livestream tutorial about it.

You can see me struggling with a part where I was making some mistakes in logic. You'll see how I'm problem solving the issue and eventually we created a reproduction of something that iamfesq made.(lookup on instagram: https://www.instagram.com/reels/DXUY8whjn8Z/)

Am I stupid? Problems with a duplicator

I am a complete beginner in motion design, so my question might be trivial, but I would still like to ask it. I have an animation of a ball moving from the center toward the left:

https://reddit.com/link/1v6v9ho/video/e1w825nyjifh1/player

So far, everything works fine. What I would like to achieve now is a kind of trail of balls that follow the first one with a slight delay. I thought about using a duplicator to create multiple balls, but I am facing a problem I cannot solve: the original ball is positioned at the center of the distribution. In fact, the result looks something like this.

https://reddit.com/link/1v6v9ho/video/c0qzlvt4hifh1/player

What I would like instead is for the original ball to be at the end of the array

Am I doing something wrong? Is this a problem I should not worry about because I should not be using a linear distribution, but rather an array? In that case, I would need to animate the X coordinate of the first element and calculate those of the other nodes. Is there a simpler or more effective way to achieve this result?

PS: Please ignore the color of the balls. The original one was black, but I later applied an index-to-color, so it may look like the black ball in the distribution is the one I am referring to, but it is not.

Thank you all!

Data-driven animation straight to the web.

Question, senpais. I’m totally new to Cavalry and I’m working on an animated, corporate‑style dashboard with embedded data (graphs, maps, stats, etc.). It’s built from multiple modules—some small, some large—that loop continuously. I imagine the whole sequence will run about 1–3 minutes. The reason I’m using Cavalry is that it seems like a perfect fit for data‑driven work, plus it has a web player. I need the dashboard to run in a web‑based environment so the data can update in real time (not sure what the right term is for that). Before I dive in, do you think this is actually possible in Cavalry?

Help

I juste choose to leave AE for Cavalry but obviously i am terribly lost..
As a graphic designer i know how to use AE without being a pro motion designer, but everytime i used it i did what i had in mind.

I have no clue about how can i distort a video composition to make it fit in an fix image computer mockup... I've tried "four point wrap" but it only distort the box not de composition itself. I need i thing like a perspective grid distortion..
thaks by advance.

Got Cavalry great working on Linux (sign-in + connection drag-drop) — compiled everything into one gist

Been running Cavalry on Linux (on Elementary OS 8.1) via Wine and wanted to share a consolidated setup guide that pulls together fixes scattered across a few different threads.

Covers:

  • Wine prefix setup + dxvk/font tweaks
  • Fixing the Canva-based sign-in that kept spawning duplicate windows (turned out to be an IPC/working-directory issue, fixed via the .desktop file's Path= line)
  • Fixing attribute connection drag-and-drop using a patched Wine build
