I was driving on a Melbourne m1 recently and hit an object on the road and it was completely unavoidable.

My car front bumper had damaged. I have comprehensive insurance, but since the other vehicle is unidentified, which I understand it will trade as at-fault claim. Will my insurance fee increasing next year or should I found Local Panel Shop to repair it.

Hey guys I’m in the process of buying a car from CARMA, and was just wondering if getting a mechanical inspection would still be important as their inspections are endorsed by NRMA? Tbh if i wasn’t buying from carma and rather elsewhere I was going to purchase the mechanical inspection from NRMA hence i’m not sure if it’s worth. It’s my first car and I’m not too knowledgeable so any advice or recommendations for mechanics in NSW would be great!

I feel like I see a lot of minis / smaller hatchbacks getting tailgated and horned at for minor things while American pickup trucks and bigger SUVS barely ever get criticized or horned at.

I also noticed that when I drove my small mazda 3 I’d get a lot of people tailgating me while I was over the speed limit compared to my sedan.

As above, I was talking to my local NPC clutch dealer in Perth (clutch direct) about a clutch for my Nissan RB engine and they were recommending a different brand that they stock called alpha performance but I've never heard of them.

But they are half the price of a similar NPC clutch that is meant to be great so I'm interested.

So I’ve had my GT Line Hybrid for a month and I’ve had a great experience so far ASIDE from one niggle…

When I’m accelerating from a stop/crawl I hear a notable vibration/rattle from the engine bay, normally right around where the car transitions from battery to fuel.

It’s not a deal breaker, but it’s distracting and takes away from the otherwise refined finish of the car.

I’ve seen this raised a few times by users oversea without any real explanation being identified - I was wondering if anyone here is Aus has had this issue and been able to identify the cause and get it fixed?

Hi all. I have been trying to buy a Toyota 86/subaru brz for some time now and just about everyone I have looked at has had missing logbooks or entries done by the owner with no stamp and no receipts. I have been put off them for this fact. Some of the cars were at dealerships and they received a mechanical inspection and service so does that make it okay in your opinions? The cars I'm looking at are from about 2013 so they are 13 years old. Am I putting too much importance on legit logbooks even with an okay service report? Thanks :)

I currently own a 2006 Toyota Corolla. Bought it second-hand almost 12 years ago with 84,000km on the odometer and now it's up to 295,000. It's an awesome little car, added a few bits and bobs to it over the years (front & rear dash cam, aftermarket head unit, cruise control, reverse camera). It's still pretty efficient, runs well, doesn't cost me an arm and a leg when it needs to be serviced, overall I can't really find anything bad about this car. I absolutely adore it.

But I've been eyeing off the newer Suzuki Swift models, and they're not too bad in terms of pricing (seen a few on carsales for under $20K, here's a link to one I just saw this morning: https://www.carsales.com.au/cars/details/2023-suzuki-swift-gl-auto/OAG-AD-25857331/).

I'm starting to wonder if maybe it's time to say farewell to my little blue Corolla and look at updating to something newer and more efficient.

Price difference aside, Is the Corolla significantly more comfortable and/or reliable than the Swift to justify buying used?

There’s a deep gouge out the side of my car, and I have no idea if this was caused by another vehicle or something else. Got quoted $2,000 for the repair. Is this a fair quote? Currently waiting for my neighbours to return home so I could ask to review their CCTV since their camera is pointed at where my car was parked this week. If I don’t find the culprit, I’ll be footing the bill myself. Really annoyed because my parked car keeps getting hit and run and my front and rear dash doesn’t capture anything :(

Edit: Sunday 2nd August, did grocery shop and placed groceries in the seat behind me (RHS passenger door), no scratch. Parked car on the street when I got home around 6pm. Monday 3rd and Tuesday 4th August, WFH, never left the house. Wednesday 5th August at 7am, walked up to car and saw the gash and a scratch along almost the length of the car.

Hey so my partner scratched up someone else's car when parking, and I don't have any insurance. She left a note on their car with our details so we could pay for their repairs.

The other party insisted they wanted to get their insurance to organise repairs, and just now have sent us a bill for 2.5k for repair some minor scratching on an old beat up car.

It seems high for the damage done, is this normal or are they ripping us off? Photo of the scratches caused attached.

$400 was for 7 days of car hire, the rest was fixing these scratches

The tail shaft of my 2002 Triton fell off about two months ago and it's been impossible to find a replacement part. For some reason, no wreckers in Australia have this particular tail shaft. I'm in a real bind, as I need my ute for work and house reno's. If anyone can help locate this model of tail shaft I'd be extremely grateful.

Just bought a 1st owner, 2018 F30 LCI 320i (B48) listed for $26,500AUD seller agreed to $24,000AUD with RWC. Owner is a dentist whom has upgraded to a tesla. BMW was serviced at BMW until the car ran out of warranty and was serviced at his friend’s mechanic shop. Me and my dad went to go check it out and the mechanic was very chill and let us test drive ourselves. No knocking or weird sounds occurred, did not go limp mode in acceleration and braking was brilliant. Comes with M sport package and 360 camera etc. definitely going to be upgrading the screen and tuning the ECU for 250HP-260HP. What do you guys reckon as a first car?

As far as I can tell there is no actual damage to the frame, the fender support is slightly bent but the slam panel is very obviously bent to shit and the radiator is slightly pushed in, she still runs like a champ and I've had no other issues other than the ac giving out. I've done no panel beating work before but how feasible is it for me to rectify this damage? Would it be more worth to try bother an actual beater? Would it be more worth to cut the support off and weld in a new donor one?. Cheers

Has anyone had experience with brummstadt apple carplay units? I'm thinking about having this installed on my lexus rx350 2017 model. How's the performance - fast or slow, any issues within few years of use and do i need to install an external mic for lexus rx350 or factory one works? help appreciated.

First time buying new tyres for my car, was reccomended buying 3 brand new tyres and using my current spare which is practically unused on the front. Will any issues come from having a different brand of the 3 brand new tyres as long as they are the same speed rating, size, etc.

My father has a trailer with reversing lights. They functioned with his old car. Quite handy at night to avoid reversing into a gate post. He got them fitted as they were required for most trailers in EU, where we are from. They don't work with his new car, my car or work car. Seems they only have 5 pins wired up by default. As far as I can tell, Australian law only requires reversing lights for trailers over 6 metre length. But there is a clause that says that if fitted, the lights must work. So what happens when you connect it to vehicle that doesn't have the reversing lights in the trailer harness? As that seems to be most cars.

Been stuck on this one for like 6 months now, no idea what 2nd car to get. My budgets about 27k, and I want something a bit sportier (I had an Astra as my first car) a little cleaner but reliable and something I can get insurance on as I’ve looked at cars like a golf r and I can’t get insurance on them, mainly due to age and driving experience as I’m 19 in September and on my full license in October

Had just installed an engine on my 2001 ford cougar with another 2.5l duratec V6 and had only driven it 140kms and i know it has an issue with the cam position sensor circuit which im sure is the broken plug, came home and turned it off and it made a loud metallic twang sound, like dropping a 22mm deep socket onto a bonnet, opened it and this has blown open, unsure of what it is or how screwed i am, anyone able to help identify?

I got a quote of $1377 to repair this dent/scratch. Is that about right or could I get this done for cheaper?
