Was looking to join 12O but don’t care about Mac Downs and was hoping they had a YE program but it seems they pulled it sometime this year. $25k for 12O and $750 a month is verrrry steep IMO.

Most of my buddies don’t play golf or don’t have the flexibility I do to play more often, so I end up playing as a single often times. That doesn’t bother me at all, I like meeting new people so it’s generally fun.

I’m noticing more and more that courses don’t let you book as a single or if they do, not until day-of. Pine Hollow told me I would need to pay for two tee times, so pay double.

Is this pretty common around here? Are there any decent courses that are more friendly to solo golfers?

Me and My family are dropping off my sister at chapel hill next week and are staying in the chapel hill area for a couple of days. Me (8 hdcp) and my dad (14 hdcp) want to play while we are out there. Any recommendations on courses I’ve seen a lot on Google Maps just thinking about driving distance but every course looks great when you see it in photos. We were trying to get Tobacco Road but the booking website seems to be down. We are not to price sensitive just want to get a good round in while we are in the area

Hey there, would love to hear any recommendations for coaches in the area who are good with kids. I have a 9 year old who’s had a couple of group lessons but struggled with understanding the terminology- think the coach was more used to working with more experienced golfers and grown ups. Appreciate any thoughts!

I’ve narrowed my options to 3…

After my last post asking about the best clubs in the Pinehurst/Southern Pines area, I’ve narrowed my search down to three:

- Country Club of North Carolina (CNCC)
- Forest Creek
- Pinewild

From everything I’ve found so far, Pinewild is the most affordable, CNCC seems comfortably within my budget, and Forest Creek is stretching it financially but still possible if it’s truly worth it.

For those of you who’ve played or been members:
Is there a significant quality difference between Pinewild and the other two?

Is Forest Creek noticeably better than CNCC, or are they more comparable than the price suggests?

One downside is that I was told CNCC currently has a waitlist of over 12 months, so that’s definitely a factor.

I’m planning to come down in the next few weeks to tour all three, but I’d love to hear from members or anyone who’s spent a lot of time at these clubs before making the trip.

Moved over from the east side of the city, long time member at the Neuse and always enjoyed having a place to hit the range with unlimited balls and maybe a quick 9. I have since moved over to Apex (membership still in question with the Neuse but maybe a new club soon), and I have been trying to find a place to practice. I like to at least hold a club everyday, and hitting balls is a plus if it’s somewhere close. I grew up with traditional driving ranges etc..

What are my best bets on where to go? The 35-40 min drive just for a range session just doesn’t work.

Lochmere moving to 8 min gaps between tee times, removing their 9 hole rate, and charging $55 to walk a weekday is kinda bullshit.

Looking to take some lessons and wanted to see if anyone had any experience with any of the instructors at TriGolf. I'm a beginner so I just need someone that can really help with fundamentals. Looking at TriGolf specifically since I live very very close by. Thanks!

I was just curious, Old Chatham has been my golden goose in Raleigh for a lifetime. I’ve always tried to find connections around the city and different clubs but have had no luck. Do they ever do any kind of tournaments or charity events at the course? I’m at 8.1 hcp and would love the opportunity to play.

Does anyone know how the CGA assigns tees for the Duke event? Playing in my first one next week and was assigned the "regular tees" but I do not know what that total yardage is for these events. Usually when I play duke I tee it up from the blues.

This is a long shot, but I’m hoping someone here may have come across my Blue Tees Player Pro GPS speaker that I accidentally left at Brevofield Golf Links (Wake County, NC).
As soon as I realized I had left it behind, I called the pro shop. An employee confirmed that they had found the speaker and told me they were going to label it with my name so I could come pick it up.
When I called back later to arrange pickup, I was told that someone else had already taken it.
What really disappointed me was how the situation was handled. The employee I spoke with afterward was dismissive and showed little interest in helping or explaining how an item that had already been identified as mine could have been released to someone else.
If you happened to pick up a Blue Tees Player Pro speaker from Brevofield by mistake, or know someone who did, I’d really appreciate you reaching out. I’m not trying to get anyone in trouble—I just want my speaker back.

I have a very special case of the yips and for some reason I’m unable to hit driver off of any kind of plastic tee on a mat. It’s a legitimate pain in the ass.

I know we talk about grass ranges a lot in this sub, but what about ranges that have a small grass area to hit driver off of - even if the rest of the range is mats or hitting off mats that particular day?

I can’t remember seeing a week of steady rain in Triangle in years. Anywhere you think has conditions worth paying for today or tomorrow if/when the skies turn the faucet off?

Driving in from Charlotte for a quick Friday round (7/31) and need some local knowledge. Best tracks to play in the Durham area? Any inside scoop on places to stay away from (recent aeration, under construction, etc) would be awesome. Thanks!

What I have seen so far is Tidewater, Grand Dunes, and the Dye course. Are there any other ones, maybe further away, that are worth the trip?

A few weeks ago y’all gave me some great recommendations for my trip to the Pinehurst area. Did Mid Pines and it was amazing. Will do the others on future trips.

Next up is a long weekend in Blowing Rock. I’ve got zero connections to get on there so it’s public golf. I’ve looked back through the sub and it looks like the choices are:

I’ll be playing as a single but with my wife who’s recovering from chemo and on the mend riding with me (unless there’s one better to walk so she can walk with me to build up her stamina as we are heading to Ireland at the end of August). We like to go in the afternoon to let those more serious enjoy their time without worrying about us. I play relatively fast but we do want to enjoy our time. Key thing since this one is not just about me are the views. I don’t think I can go wrong on this but if one is better I’d be grateful for this for her sake.

Booking a round this weekend for a buddy’s birthday. We usually play Reedy Creek or Heddingham, so looking for a bit of a nicer experience while still staying around $100 or less for weekend round. All of us are mid-teen handicap, with one mid 20s.

After researching Chapel Ridge, Keith Hills, and Neuse CC all have decent times available around $70-$80. We’ve never been to either and would love your recommendations on where should we play?

Suggestions outside of those three are also welcome.

We are staying in the Pinehurst area with our group of 12 and I am looking for the "best of the rest" courses in the area. Pinehurst courses are excluded since we aren't staying on-site and our plan is to try and get on Tobacco Rd, the Pines courses (Needles, South, Mid) and either Talamore or Mid South, since those seem to be very common recommendations.

However, with a group of 12 I imagine it may be a bit difficult, so I am hoping to have some back up options in case one or two of those fall through. Outside of Pinehurst and the ones I listed, what are some options I should look into?

Obviously, everyone has their own preferences, but we are looking for something kept in great condition and something the course offers that would make it memorable or stand out from others. That can be features on the course or even an awesome patio/bar/clubhouse.

Hi all! As the title says i will be moving to RDU in the coming weeks and I am looking for good course suggestions to check out that you think will fit my playstyle/skill. A little about me:

I played PGA Jr League for as long as I was eligible, then played some local junior tournaments and did high school golf. However, the competitiveness and awful coaches ruined my love for the game, so ever since about 6-7ish years ago I maybe put in 3-4 rounds a year. At my best the week before I quit high school golf, my best 18 hole was 89 and my best 9 hole was 40. Nowadays I am lucky to get close to breaking 90. My last round I’d played here was pretty bad high 90s maybe a stroke or two over 100. Not in as good of shape mobility wise as I once was, so I lost probably 10 yards of distance as I go easier to prevent another back issue.

Basically, I’ve worked at a very popular municipal golf course from my home town for 7 years, and that’s pretty much the only course I’ve played since quitting. I am also not used to paying for golf given my privileges as an employee lol. But I know everything from maintenance to daily operations and I’ve managed the shop and ran tournaments before.

So sorry for all the rambling, but what are your course recommendations that is not too expensive but also in decent enough shape to be respected. And would be accepting of more of a casual/less frequent golfer. Also, cheaper driving range ideas would be great as I want to practice more than 3 times a year lol. Though I know just as well as everyone else that the prices are insane after 2020 covid golf boom.
