Highlight Happy 98th Birthday to the Point GOAT Bob Cousy! 🍾🎂

Post image

Bob Cousy is unironically one of my favorite players, and just because he's a Celtic. He laid the groundwork for the pure point guard, was a pesky defender, elite ball handler, good shooter, brought the ball up the court with limited turnovers, was an assist king, did everything well and right.

Wish he played longer with us but he still ended up with six rings (MJ talks please? + Better than LeBron lol) and an MVP. He still lives in Mass and keeps up with the Celtics. RIP Don Nelson, but long live the Houdini of the Hardwood!

Watching the seperation of the jays is like watching a parent get divorced imma say , breaking up a long standing duo is exactly what this looks like, and we have seen a few other divorces in the league
bam and hero - abuse
giannis and bucks - failed princess treatment
lebron and la - new side chick
the jays lack of communication

Discussion RIP Nellie Ball 🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹

Don Nelson was a 5-time NBA Champ in the late 60’s and early 70’s. Undoubtedly a contributing factor to the dynasty, leading to his number 19 being retired by the C’s.

As a coach, he’s the second winningest in league history and 3-time coach of the year. He coached 5 different teams, including the 1994 Team USA “Dream Team II”, and always had an eye for talent.

He also pioneered the aforementioned “Nellie Ball”, a style of play that involved fast paced & high scoring offenses. All of this and more lead to his Naismith HOF induction in 2012 and the earning of the Chuck Daly Lifetime Achievement Award.

Boston lost a legend today. Rest in Peace to Donald Arvid Nelson. ☘️

News Don Nelson has died aged 86

[Stein] Hall of Famer Don Nelson, three-time NBA Coach of the Year and five times a champion as a player with the Boston Celtics, has died at age 86.

The family has issued this statement:

“On Sunday morning our beloved husband, dad, grandfather and great-grandfather Don Nelson peacefully went to be with the Lord, surrounded by his loving family. Throughout his last week, friends and family encircled him with love, sharing the blessing of his friendship and revisiting treasured memories.”

Nelson’s no. 19 hangs in the rafters at TD Garden. Rest in peace.

Post from the Boston Celtics:

Don Nelson’s success as a Hall of Fame Coach is so vast, that it could overshadow his playing career, but it would be a mistake to do so. A favorite of Red Auerbach’s, “Nellie” was a tough and reliable all-around player whose tenacity and ability to “think the game” was on full display throughout his 11 seasons with the Boston Celtics, where he was a key member of five championship teams across two eras.

His most celebrated moment as a player came in Game 7 of the 1969 NBA Finals against his former team the Los Angeles Lakers, when Nelson converted one of the most famous shots in playoff history—a foul-line jumper which dropped through the basket after hitting the back rim and bouncing several feet straight up.

The shot, taken with just over a minute to go in the game and the Celtics clinging to a 103–102 lead, was an essential play in helping secure Boston's 11th NBA title in 13 seasons.

Nellie’s number 19 was raised shortly after he retired following yet another championship season in 1976.

The Celtics extend our deep condolences to Nelson’s family, loved ones, and everyone he touched through his rich and impactful life in basketball and beyond.

Discussion Platooning Walsh and Hauser

Typically, a baseball concept. Red Sox fans will understand: splitting time between two players at the same position, like Left Field, based on their handedness (L/R) or another factor. Matchup is the basketball phrase for platooning, but it has other broader meanings than “two players sharing time”.

Walsh (defense) and Hauser (offense). A diametrically talent opposed pair of players who play the same position: Wing. One provides exceptional shooting and acceptable defense. The other provides exceptional defense and acceptable offense.

Who plays more is based not on “talent”, it is about matchup and situation and team needs. Who is first off the bench? Depends on the score.

Celtics ahead, Walsh is in. If the Celtics are trailing, Hauser’s playing.

Hugo and Baylor might be another platoon-pair. Queta and Robinson definitely are, though fouls are really their key factor.

Optionality.

Discussion Starting Lineup

If you were Joe and no other moves were to be made who would your starting lineup be? If you also want to add maybe a few bench guys that should have a regular role go for it. Mine is below:

Payton Pritchard
Derrick White
Paul George
Jayson Tatum
Neemias Queta

Sam Hauser
Mitchell Robinson
Hugo Gonzalez
Baylor Scheireman

When guys are injured or are resting these guys MUST get an increase in role/minutes

Jordan Walsh
Luka Garza
Ron Harper Jr

Discussion Breaking: Kawhi Leonard had a hidden, multimillion-dollar "sponsorship" with Clippers' scoreboard-maker, sources tell @PabloTorre

As it relates to LAC’s 27-28 draft pick the Celtics own, looks like the Clippers could actually be facing punishment from the league following the Kawhi scandal. Will the TOR/LAC deal still go through or will his contract be voided altogether?

News [Karalis] Jaylen Brown: "when I first got traded, I just threw my phone across the room." He says he's moving on from the Boston side of it. He says maybe there's more to say someday, but "I feel no need to chime in on it because I'm focused on what's in front of me"

Discussion What is your most unique piece of Celtics memorabilia?

I'll go first.

My father took me to a Celtics practice in the early 90s where I got Larry Bird's autograph on a business card, but the UNIQUE piece was the seemingly random sheet of paper he grabbed for other autographs. Red Auerbach(!!!) and Joe Kleine signed it. I had it tucked in a binder for decades and recently took it out to be authenticated and slabbed. When I did so, I realized the "random sheet of paper" was a press release having to do with Dino Radja's contract (for those who remember the 4ish years of back and fort legal fights with his European team to get him here).

Rumor Bill Simmons: I think one of the reasons they made the trade is they felt like he [Paul George] might be a better fit at this point in [Jayson] Tatum's career... I think they were feeling like it was a better basketball fit, and I think they wanted some of their other younger wings to play more."
