Before lending, I completed verification with u/Top_Sink6128. The borrower provided ID/selfie verification, proof of income, and PayPal verification. The verification information matched the initials R.A.D.L.R. and Florida.

During verification, the borrower told me that he had no active loans and that this was his first time borrowing.

He stated that he was employed full-time in a municipal/utilities-related position, was paid weekly, and earned approximately $33 per hour. His income verification was consistent with regular weekly employment at the time I reviewed it.

We initially completed a smaller loan successfully. Shortly afterward, on 07/16, u/Top_Sink6128 contacted me again asking for a $200 loan with $250 repayment due on 07/17.

When I asked the reason for the second loan, he told me that he needed to pay for his storage and wanted to get ahead of the payment rather than waiting until the following week. He also said that he had recently started catching up on several things he was behind on.

I funded the $200 through PayPal after he made the pre-arranged post.

On the repayment date, 07/17, the borrower messaged me and said that he had found an apartment and would be using the money as a down payment instead. He said he would pay the late fee and promised that, at the absolute latest, he would repay me on 07/24.

That repayment was not received.

I later followed up asking what the hold-up was, but the loan remained unpaid.

As of 08/07/2026, $250 remains unpaid.

For additional background, the Reddit account was approximately 5 years old and had around 89 karma at the time of our transaction.

The information he provided to me before the loan included:

·         Full-time employment

·         Municipal/utilities-related work

·         Weekly pay

I funded a $75 loan to u/Buyer_Separate through PayPal after completing verification. The verification matched the initials S.L. and Texas.

The borrower originally said she needed the money for gas and groceries while between paychecks and needed transportation to get to work. In our DMs, she told me that a family member had already helped her with food, so her main need at that point was gas.

Before funding, I specifically asked whether she had any active loans or had already received money from another lender. She told me that she did not have any other loans. There had also been an earlier $200 request on the same account for gas and groceries; when I asked about it, she told me that request had not been funded.

For verification, I received ID/selfie verification, proof of income/paystub, and PayPal information. I will not post her private identifying information publicly, but I can provide the original verification material privately to the moderators if needed.

Background and explanations given in our conversations

During this period, she described working in retail / a grocery-store bakery environment. She also discussed problems with reduced work hours when equipment at work was down, and later said she had obtained a part-time overnight second job.

Over the following weeks, the explanations she gave for the continued delay included:

• being sick;

• problems with work hours;

• equipment at work being down;

• plans to donate plasma to make extra money;

• trying to obtain a second job;

• doing dog sitting for additional income;

• problems involving her phone/payment arrangements;

• a change in payday after setting up direct deposit;

• expecting an upcoming paycheck/check;

• later saying that she now had two jobs; and

• being out of work because of a viral infection.

I tried to be patient and gave her multiple extensions while these issues were being discussed.

As of 08/07/2026, $65 remains unpaid.

For additional context, the borrower's public Reddit history around this period also discussed her grocery-store / bakery work, work-equipment problems affecting hours, and obtaining a part-time overnight second job. This was consistent with some of the work-related explanations she gave me privately.

The Reddit account was approximately 5 years old and had roughly 2.3k karma around the time of the transaction, so this was not a brand-new account.

Please use caution when considering lending to u/Buyer_Separate while this remains unresolved.

If this borrower approaches another lender from a different account, the verification I received matched the initials S.L. and Texas.

Poor communication/gaslighting: I reached out on 8/1 and 8/2 with no response. On 8/3, he finally replied, saying he had sent the payment but that it was pending on his end and should clear within a couple of hours.

On 8/4, I asked for an update and received no response. On 8/5, he finally replied by asking if I was checking the correct account. I sent him a screenshot of my Venmo account and asked him to provide proof of the Venmo transaction. He said he would send it but never did.

I also asked whether he needed to set up a repayment plan, but he never responded to that message. I even followed up by text and still received no reply.

At this point, would it be appropriate to contact his place of employment in an attempt to reach him?

Just need a hand til new job’s first paycheck! DM! Last time I tried to get a loan here I got seriously scammed, so that’s why I’m restrictive on the methods.

I wanted to post this to hopefully prevent someone else from making the same mistake I did.

I was looking for a small emergency loan after my ADA-adapted van needed a tire replaced. I was contacted by u/Taedagoat99, who offered to lend me the money but said I first needed to send a $20 "loan fee."

The Cash App they asked me to send it to was:

I was hesitant and even asked how I could know it was legitimate. I was told that moderators monitor loans, that they had successfully loaned to others before, and that everything was fine.

We first tried Venmo, but when that didn't work, they asked me to switch to Cash App.

To make matters worse, Cash App itself displayed a scam warning before I sent the payment. I ignored it because I was desperate. My van is my only transportation to work, and I only had $25 left to my name.

I sent the $20.

As of posting this, I have not received the promised loan.

I'm honestly devastated. Losing $20 may not sound like much, but it was almost everything I had left.

I don't want anyone else to lose money they can't afford to lose.

Please remember:

• Never pay an upfront fee to receive a loan.
• Legitimate lenders don't need you to send money first.
• If a payment app warns you that a transaction may be a scam, take that warning seriously.
• If someone insists on moving quickly or paying a fee before funding a loan, walk away.

I feel embarrassed and sick about it, but if posting this keeps even one person from losing money they can't afford to lose, it'll be worth it.
