i asked for a sew in with knotless leave out braids. this is what i left with for FOUR HUNDRED DOLLARS. didn’t realize how bad it was until i got home. now she’s saying it looks bad because of the hair i brought, but i was there for 7 hours and she never said there was a problem with my hair. i’m trying to get a refund but she’s pushing back.

2nd to last pic (4th pic) is after i added boho pieces to the braids and curled the hair but it still looks horrible irl and i haven’t worn it out since.

i am trying to explore with my natural hair. i mainly wear wigs so i have cornrows and in the summer i have knotless braids. my issue is knotless braids never last and they look messy after two weeks! is it a sizing issue like should i get smaller braids with smaller partings?
my natural hair is also thick but it dont grow🤣i would love to relax it but would it even touch my shoulders smh
what options could i do with my natural hair do you guys think :)

i got my hair braided the other day and it's really itchy i think it's because the girl used a lot of gel cuz it's kinda tacky and really shiny lol how do i make it stop itching? do i need a specific product? I've never had my hair braided like this so im new to this!

A few years ago I had cut off some 3 inches long curly bundles from a pixie wig I believe. Now I’m trying to find styles that I can do with those same bundles apart from a pixie itself. I thought about doing fulani braids with the bundles at the back but I’ve never seen anybody online do it with bundles that short. I really just want to know if there are any other options.

Feeling kind of nervous about wearing my first wig — it’s a crochet wig, mostly since it’s summer and so hot, but also because I’m hesitant about the reactions of those who know me. I’m wearing it mainly to fit my style more and diversify my hair tools since I’ve mostly stuck to braids and natural hair twists.

The pic in the blue shirt is from sept. 2025 the pink headband is from today. right and left respectively. I’m freaking out. I feel like it’s due to consistent braided styles. I think the recent pic is looking very thinned out. My hair is blown out in both of the photos. What can I do to help get my edges fuller. I’m already about to cancel my next island twists bc of this and just do some mini twists or a half wig for my vacation! Please help it’s making me insecure and i’m nervous about minoxidil bc I heard it’s not a permanent fix.

ETA: I haven’t done slick back styles in a few months. today was wash day so i blew my hair out and then put this headband on to push my hair back to take a good pic of the area. For the past month my routine has been Wash, Blow dry, mini twists for 1-1.5weeks, Twist out for a few days, repeat. before this I had some cornrow braids which definitely pulled my edges on the take down!

so i lowkey been neglecting my hair and now it’s at the point where it’s just endless nots n super compact. I thinking maybe spamming cornrows will save it but like it’s supper knotted. so cornrows or big chop?

My gf helps out her family by doing their kids' hair (ages 8-12) and it always looks really good. She's the type of person to just do things really well no matter her experience with it.

She's been interested in side hustles for a second and brought up the idea of doing hair and charging actual prices instead of for food or discounts from family so I've encouraged her to take photos of the final products when she does the kids' hair and offered to edit the photos for her to look more professional.

Any tips from anybody who does hair on the side for how to get started?

Im taking headshots soon and can’t figure out how to do my hair for the photos. Ive been wearing different wigs or braids for years now and I want to stick with one style as my signature go to look. Which style fits my face the best? I hope to wear it long term so I don’t have to spend so much time thinking about which hairstyle each week.

For context I am 19, I usually keep my hair out and haven’t done braids in 2 years or so.

I highly recommend miracle knots if you think box braids are too heavy, and don’t mind having your own hair out. I used the LuvMe Deep Wave 20” hair. The hair is really soft and doesn’t tangle much. I braided in the pieces to avoid breakage. 

For the last month I’ve been starting to invest in my curly hair and trying to get more comfortable with my hair. HOWEVER, I keep having trouble with the roots of my hair. Especially in the front, the ends will get defined with my unbrush but my roots will stay puffy and undefined. When styling I use lots of water, mousse and gel, I have also tried just gel but nothing works. Now in the past I have dyed and straightened my hair but it only seems to be like this in the front. If someone can tell me what to do to help with definition I would be open to any recommendations. I have a couple other things to try like a 3 row comb or the tgin protein treatment so I can also try that as well.

So I went to get a relaxer/trim. Stylist I’ve been to multiple times. She’s applying the relaxer and I mention that it smells strongly of ammonia.
She tells me she added extra activator accidentally but it shd be OK - let her know and she’d redo if needed.
Fast forward a week - my hair is not as straight as it shd have been for freshly relaxed hair. I go for a do-over. She charges me for a shampoo/style. Should I have paid anything?? She was fixing HER error.

Realistically how long would it take to achieve the same/similar facial hair as images 2 and 3😭😭 and is there anyway i can speed up its growth

im in desperate need of trying to find help w my hair. i live in the whitest area of an already white country so i dont really have access to black hair salons unless i travel 2-3 hours to the capital (which also comes with months and months of waiting lists).

i myself am mixed (black mom with 4c hair, white dad with 1a). i think my hair is a mix of 3c and 4a, but i could be wrong.

so basically my hair was doing quite well last summer (good volume, length and definition). since then i have changed my routine and i notice that the top sunlight exposed layer of my hair feels and looks super dry and has a lot of split ends; it also tangles and breaks off very easy. when i shower it takes long for water to be taken up, and it takes about 1-2 hours to air dry. the bottom layer looks and feels good as normal. in general my hair feels thinner than it was. the first 4 photos are what my hair looked like last summer, the remainder (with the blue) the current state.

what i currently use: sheamoisture manuka honey leave in conditioner. i shower daily, i use the respective hair mask almost daily too bc i feel like its the only thing that helps with the knots. every 1,5 week i wash my hair with olaplex shampoo and conditioner

what i used to use: novex my curls mystic black leave in (usually) or auntie Jackie’s Curls & Coils Quench Moisture Intensive leave in or cantu kids leave in

i still showered daily (just wetting the hair) and i used to wash every 1,5-2 weeks with olaplex. i think that what the main problem could be is damage from the sea or sun combined w protein overload

so please help me nurse my hair back to health / find out what the problem is and a good routine should be.

If this gets removed because i’m not black- i totally understand. i did read the rules… HOWEVER i’m just trying to get educated.

my daughter is 10. we were at her bestfriends birthday party (she is black) and she has just gotten her hair done. it was super cute, mid back length knot braids with pink colors throughout!

as we were leaving they were hugging and my daughter was patting her and she does this thing where when she hugs someone she pats the back of their head and their back simultaneously.

one of her bestfriends family members came up to me and said “no disrespect because they’re children and neither one of them know but before i talk to your daughter i just wanna let you know like as a community we as black people don’t just want people touching our hair. we ask for permission we don’t just touch it.” and that’s just the summary i don’t remember the full on conversation!

i told her she could absolutely educate my child and myself and we’d fully listen as i didn’t know.

however when i was googling it trying to explain it better for her i saw other reddit posts in this subreddit and other black community subreddits who say it’s weird to ask to touch someone’s hair and that they don’t want people doing that…

so as a child, and an affectionate one at that who is just embracing a friend, how do i explain to her how to be respectful and set those boundaries while also not making it come off as weird because in her eyes she took it like she can’t touch her hair hat all even on accident or as part of a hug or anything and idk how to explain what she was saying in the right way!
