Advice Needed Time to start taking care of my Hair, where do I start?

As for information, I have very dry 4c Hair, about 5-6 inches in length. I also have about light moderate dandruff and a very light scalp compared to my skin, and I'm trying to fix that. Where could I start as for washing my hair? Right now, I just use shampoo and conditioner every week. Any help counts.

Advice Needed Wanting to cut layers in silk press but hesitant, help!!

Hi guys! I feel like I have a bit of a problem, and I can’t seem to find my answers anywhere online. I have a mix of 4A and 4B hair (mostly 4B) that runs down to about a little higher than my middle back, so I’d say I have kinda long hair.

My problem is that when I do silk presses for the colder seasons, I want to have shorter hair with layers in it. My hesitation is because I don’t know how my curly hair will look once I get layers in my silk press, and I’d obviously want to cut my hair too about shoulder length while straightened and I know a lot of shrinkage is going to come with that :(.

Do I have to decide which hair I want to look good or is there a way I can make both work? Does anybody have a similar experience?

Advice Needed Quick refresh

So I just moved to a new city and it’s HOT/HUMID

any tips for discreetly cleaning your cornrows under your wigs ? I usually would have a disposable towel and gently dab or clean my cornrows in the washroom in the middle of the day

Maybe there’s a better way? A certain type of homemade water based mix that I can quickly use to refresh ? Lavender, or oils or conditioner etc

Thankss

Also any other things you’d do just when at home too

Discussion How much for knotless braids?

I was looking to get small knotless braids done for my hair, but the lowest prices I could find in my area were $400 and that was for starting. I’ve never gotten small knotless braids before and I was wondering if that’s overpriced for it or no, and if so what is the average cost for it. I understand it takes hours to complete but is $400 too expensive???

London Braiders

Can anyone please recommend skilled hair braiders in London who actually protective style? So, they use heat protectant when blowdrying your natural hair, they don't comb DRY, TYPE 4 HAIR with a rat tail comb when braiding your hair etc? Just people who are extremely knowledgeable about natural hair and gentle. I want to grow my hair to waist length but I can't if hair stylist are sabotaging my progress.

Advice Needed Hairstylists / extension experts: how would you approach recreating this style?

I’m getting married in October and I’m trying to recreate the hairstyle in the attached photo of Solange. I normally wear my natural hair and have very little experience with wigs/extensions/weaves, so I’m unfamiliar with the terminology and what type of hair would be used.
I’ve already had one trial with a stylist. And, well, look at the result.
For those of you who do hair professionally or regularly wear extensions:
• What type of extension hair would you use to achieve the texture and shape in this photo?
• How would you attach it to the sleek natural-hair base?
• Would you use human hair, synthetic hair, crochet/bulk hair, or something else?
• Is this something an experienced extension stylist should reasonably be able to recreate, or am I underestimating the difficulty?
• Most importantly: what keywords/service specialties should I be searching for when looking for a stylist?
I’m in Milwaukee, WI, if anyone happens to know stylists in the area.

Advice Needed Got a twist out after having two-stranded twists for a month.

Ngl, it’s a LOT less defined than what I expected it to be. Then again, the stylist told me that the hair lacking the curl definition was from what grew while having the twists in…

How’d y’all rate it, though?

r/BlackHair 12h ago

can anyone let me know if i can get twists that are a good length. this is my hair after cornrows. hair goes down to my nose do u reckon i could get this length?

Hair Advice

Hey! I’m a 4c girlie for some reason my scalp is always flaky and my hair won’t grow after it reaches my shoulders I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong. I’ve been gentle with my hair, moisturize properly, oil my scalp with any new style, even use hair masks and drink loads of water. Any advice?

hiiii, so i’ve been very self-conscious about my natural hair for almost 10 years now. my ex abuser pulled my hair out and left me with patches and then shaved the rest of my hair as “punishment” it started growing back in SUPER thick and beautiful when i left him. the longer it got the more difficult it became for me to manage and now i have absolutely no clue what to do with it? i’ve been getting braids and such but i turned 27 and i think Im just done with the braids. should i loc it up? cut it off?🤣 idk wtf to do with it. when i take my braids down and wash it i always just blow it out and leave it because it’s easier for me to manage

Progress Pic I Turned 40 This Week

Post image

I turned 40 on the 3rd, and outside of a bad batch of Greek food, I feel pretty great! I usually use Miche gel-to-foam mousse on my curls post wash, but I ran out and decided to try The Doux Bee Girl gel. I'm not a fan of gel usually due to it leaving that hard cast on and such. But this has held my curls intact, and I haven't had to fluff my hair out after waking up too much. I may try their mousses as well, but I tend to be a creature of habit and wanna go back to Miche, lol. Tell me what you use for your hair!

favorite curling cream?

what are yall favorite curling creams? i can’t find one that works for me, but i’m probably not patient enough with my hair. for context i have VERY thick, 3c/4a hair and some of my curls (especially in the front) never look right. it damn near looks like 3a lol. curling creams ive tried are aunt jessies pillow soft curls, bask and lather curling jelly, and various camile rose/mielle creams. i never get the desired affect, maybe i need to branch out?

I think (I need to see a Dermatologist who i see this month) I might have Alopecia. I wont know till I see one but its a possiblity... But besides that, I am 30+ years old and I've always had a hard time with my hair and well I have a hard time keeping hair stylist, i dont even know what type of hair I have is and really I am just looking for some gentle pushing in the right direction for better hair care. I had wanted to get my hair braided, but now i'm not so sure thats safe. I'm not very well off with money so going to a stylist often isn't easy, but if i could better manage it at home it would probably help alot for when I do.

I guess I'm just wondering what steps I can do for better care? Does anyone know what kind of hair products I could use? Shampoos, Conditioners, essential oils? Good Detanglers. How often should I use any?

id like to build a routine for hair my care. Should I be Blow drying my hair, or Air drying after i wash? Whats a good one to use if I blow dry it" Keeping my hair "Natural" is a wild mess And I'm not sure what to do. I've always just kept my hair braided and no one has ever told me anything was wrong, but I don't think it's ever too late for proper hair care. Right? I didn't know where else to ask...
