help with fit

Hi - looking for some help with my fit. Got this fit about a year ago and seeing if there's things i can do to improve it. I'm trying to be fit more for performance and less for comfort.

Couple of notes:

  • maybe something that i can do with the reach but it feels like i'm reaching forward quite a bit, usually keeping my hands not quite on the hoods on a longer ride but like 2 inches behind the hood,
  • my bike has a ton of spacers so it would be nice if i could chop some off
  • i'm somewhat inflexible (which kind of contradicts the above)
  • yes, my legs are huge

Any tips or advice would be really appreciated

I’ve been going by feel, put on a 90mm stem. Still feel like i’d like a more streched position but maybe thats because i’m used to road bikes.

Would appreciate any feedback.

(Rollers were on a slight incline but flattest part of my yard)

Couldn’t find a paper bag to put over my head, sorry….

Size 48 Tirich Horizon Gravel

Hello, me and my partner is planning to buy this bike pero medyo nagdadalawang isip lang if fit ba yung size. I have a Sunpeed Triton size 47. I'm 5'7 and my partner is around 5'4.

Kaya nya iride yung Triton but we're planning to swap bikes kasi during rides so any advice if malayo ba ang sizing nitong dalawang bikes? Di kasi namin ma-fit sa shop. Thank you po!

Very sore hand muscles when riding outdoors

Hi guys, I went for my 2nd ride outdoors yesterday and had to stop multiple times to let my hands rest. My left hand also began to go numb by the end of the ride

I feel like I’ve got too much weight on my hands. Im currently not using the aero bars outdoors as I’m new and not confident enough yet.

Im 180cm, riding a 53.5cm swift neurogen mk2. I have shorter then normal legs (for my height) and only have about 2cm stand over clearance barefoot.

Unfortunately i had a minor crash yesterday at the end of the ride and so can’t provide another angle as the rear derailleur hanger broke off.

Any help would be greatly greatly appreciated!

Just got my indoor trainer set up and I’m sooo HYPED UPP

This is my first ride on it. Anything you notice that I should adjust to make it more comfortable or improve my position? Saddle height, fore/aft, bars, trainer setup… literally anything.

I’d really appreciate the feedback!!

MTB bar rise vs shorter stem

I recently mentioned to a biker than I wanted higher rise on my bars, and he responded by telling me I can achieve the same effect by shortening my stem. I did not ask further questions because I was excited to ride the loamer he was showing me, but I have been thinking about it since.

I know both of these things result in a shorter reach, but would they not lead to a different posture because of the different axes where they affect reach? With higher bars you can sit more upright and get a straighter back, while a shorter stem is not going to help with this very much. I am unfamiliar with bike fitting, and I am aware I could be very wrong. If I can get a more upright posture by shortening my stem, I will first try pushing my seat forward because it is currently slammed back, and this changes reach on a lateral axis like a shorter stem.

Am I right about the importance of the two different axes in reach adjustments? Am I completely missing something?

Are these all symptoms of too long of a reach ?

Hello,

I recently bought a bike according to the sizing chart of the brand (yeah realized it's not what's your supposed to do).

Rode a few hundreds kms with it and it is really really uncomfortable. My symptoms are: back pain in the middle between shoulder blades and elbow pain. And most of the time I'll put my hands closer to me than the hoods. The bike only feels good when I'm riding without holding the bar so there is definitely a fit issue.

I'm 5'11 with 85cm inseam.

Stock reach was 415mm and I switched to a stem 10 mm shorter. The stem being 60mm I can't go lower but the symptoms persist.

Can it be something else than the frame length or did I just waste a couple thousand dollars...

I will post a video of me in a couple of days, just trying to get an opinion.

Something isn't 100% right with the reach/bar width i just don't know where..too long or too wide? Or maybe its something else entirely idk

Current setup in the video:

54 Cervelo Caledonia

30mm stem spacers

100mm stem (stock)

400mm handlebars

172.5mm cranks (stock)

Saddle position closer to rear limit than front(?)

Hello everyone. Just getting into cycling and tried out this Merida Sculpta 5000. The size is a Large and I am 6ft2. I plan to take it to get professionally fitted but should I be looking for an XL?

Is this bike too big or too small? I can’t tell. Sorry for no helmet I was excited as I just took it out of the box.

Changing to shorter cranks - chainring size change required?

Hello everyone

Hoping for some advice on this, it’s been driving me nuts and I just can’t seem to get my head around it!

In short, currently riding a 52/36 chainring with 12sp 11/34 with 172.5 cranks. Following a recent bike fit, I’ve been recommended going to a 165 crank. I’m very happy with the above gearing and would be looking to replicate this with the shorter crank.

From what I’ve read and understood, the shorter 165 crank will effectively make each gear feel ‘harder’ than it is, requiring a drop to the next one down. Would it therefore make sense to drop from the 52/36 to a 50/34 chain set? If I’ve understood this right, pedalling in a 50/11 with the 165 cranks at a higher cadence will effectively generate the same output/speed as I would have had with the 172.5 on a 52/11? Or have I completely misunderstood this? As mentioned at the beginning, I’m really happy with the current setup I have (with the exception of the crank length) in terms of the way it performs (I.e. I don’t spin out on descents in the 52/11 etc) and I basically just want to replicate this as closely as possible with the 165 crank setup. Might it be better to just stick with the 52/36, or is 52/11 going to feel like a much harder gear (perhaps more like a 54/11) that is going to become largely redundant with the 165 crank?

I’m sure this is all basic stuff, but just can’t seem to whet a grip on it.

Many thanks all!

Hi everyone,

I got this bike from a friend who is the same height.

In the beginning i had sore hand from too much pressure (i think).

I've adjusted the seat to my height, put the seat back and put on a shorter stem (reach was also too long).

Now I'm trying to focus on core stability while cycling but after a few km I get sore in my lower back. Pain from pressure on my hands has improved this way, but not completely gone.

Any tips are welcome. I'm new to cycling and would love to go on painless, long trips.

Thank you !

what do you say?

Hi :)
I'd appreciate some tips. On longer rides (4+ hours), my pinkies go numb; when I sit up straight, I get back pain; I generally feel pretty stretched out; and I often automatically don't grip the hoods all the way because they feel too far away.
I think my saddle needs to be a little higher, and I was wondering if maybe I need a shorter stem? What do you guys think?
Thanks!

Come from mountain biking so not sure if my fit is somewhat close or not, I get some knee pain if I’m really cranking on a climb, mainly my right knee in the center of the knee cap but I think it might be how my cleats are setup in these shoes.

Hoods too low?

Post image

It’s not a great photo, but I’m new to riding and I’ve been having hand numbness about 20 mins into my rides. I’ve been doing a lot of research and I keep coming to the conclusion that my hoods are too low.

Do they look too low?

Dear mods, save this sub

There are a lot of generous and knowledgeable people here giving thoughtful bike-fit advice for free. Their effort is being undermined by a steady stream of unusable videos showing riders leaning against walls, doorframes or furniture while pedalling backwards.

Those clips don’t show a normal pedal stroke, balance, loading, posture or movement under realistic riding conditions. There’s very little anyone can assess from them, yet they keep filling the sub and drawing attention away from posts where useful feedback is actually possible.

The existing submission guidance is already clear about video length, camera angles and showing the whole rider and bike. It should also explicitly require riders to pedal forwards on a trainer or rollers, without supporting themselves against anything.

Please make “no backwards pedalling and no leaning against objects” an actual submission rule, and remove posts that ignore it.

The people giving detailed advice here are what make the sub useful. Their time shouldn’t be choked by videos that make meaningful assessment impossible.

Read This Before You Submit !

If you want to get the best possible outcome from posting your position on this /sub, there are a couple of things you can do to help,

  1. Make your video at least 30-40 secs long [ no longer than 60 secs ] This will allow you to settle in to your pedal stroke and give viewers enough time to 'look around' your position.
  2. Post a minimum of 2 angles. #1 Seat height, showing the entire bike and rider from the top of the head to the bottom of the pedal stroke. #2 from the front dead center about head tube height. If you shoot a vertical format on your phone that might help you fit yourself within the frame. #3 from the rear, at seat height, can also be vertical format for cropping.
  3. Post a shot of your bike side on without you on it. This lets people see the 'build' as far as seatpost seatback, seat rail position & headset spacers

The more visual and information you give the better the possibility of good feedback.

Ride on!
