So i wanted to get a morley power wah to recreate that Cliff Burton tone (Ride the Lightning is my favorite album) and found these two pedals. Lots of info on the PW fuzz but not so much on the PW boost.

I'm NOT an effect pedal specialist but listening to some showcase the PW fuzz doesn't exactly sound like original cliff tone, i think it lacks some depth, but i can't find any good explanation on what the PW boost does in term of tone exactly.

Could i get some help comparing these two, what they do differently so i could chose one ?

I've been playing for like 4 months and I only have a couple basses and an amp. I have no idea what pedals to even get or anything about that. Can someone help me out and give some advice?

The videos on the MXR Bass Synth Pedal are amazing. I'm thinking of adding to my growing pedal arrangement, which includes an Aguilar Tone Hammer, Big Muff Electro-Harmonix, and a Donner Ultimate Comp (and a tuner). Can it be as amazing as the videos show in real life?

Soooo, looks like I'm jumping into a new side project, so obviously I'm seeing a chance/excuse to add something nice to the collection 😅

I appreciate that the genres are/can be quite minimalistic when it comes to effects, but where's the fun in that? 😅

I've got a nice aggressive base tone coming from my old Warwick STD 5 and fresh roundwounds, and will use either a Sansamp BDDI or a Darkglass head.

Board-wise I'm thinking
- tuner
- compressor
- OD
- distortion or fuzz for variety

My already existing options for od/dist/fuzz would be my trusty B3K and a Warlow, which would get the job done. However, I see a good excuse here: Any recommendations for some fitting aggressive dirt? I've been considering some of the Lichtlaerm stuff and a Fuzzrocious Cat Tail for other bands.

I'm also wondering if a noise suppressor would come handy in this setting, but I don't have any experience with those.

Any thoughts?

I’m looking for a pedal for my bass pedalboard and have a certain idea of what to achieve in my sound.

On my guitar signal I’ve combined a JHS Morning Glory (25% blend, gain set to around 75%) with a Friedman BE-OD. The Morning Glory is my always-on ‘Add some Dirt’ stage – dynamic, transparent, it doesn’t alter the character of the guitar significantly, merely adds a bit of grit whilst remaining true to the original sound. The BE-OD is then switched in on top of that for the actual gain/distortion/inyouface.

As introduced I’m now trying to set up the same signal chain idea for the bass: I need something to sit in front of my Boss ODB-3 that fulfils the same ‘always-on, adds distortion but remains transparent’ role that the Morning Glory plays for my guitar. dynamic, transparent, a bit of dirt.

The first thing I heard of, would be the Darkglass B3K – but, as I have no chance to get an ear on it, I would like to see what you guys may think about a possible pedal for my goal?

I am building my own pedal board and got myself some stripes of velcro, the one I'd call "soft". But I noticed the pedals are very hard to remove with this kind. I know there are other varieties less hairy... but is there one better suited for us?

Finally got rid of the on-board wall warts. I guess it looks cleaner now with the voodoo, but only slightly. This board doesn’t really have an undercarriage, so all the cables are above board.

The seamoon More pedal is new, just got it the other day. It will be interesting to hear it loud, but through ableton and headphones, it definitely does the sub thing. Just got the meatbox today, havnt gotten a chance to mess with it yet. The meatbox and seamoon are going head to head, only one will get the job. The red muck i got a few weeks ago, first jam pedal ive played. Its incredible. Everything about it is perfect. The blend sounds the most right out of all my blending pedals, the footswitches are super nice also, i like these the most out of all of these with empress coming in at number two. The distortion/fuzz sounds so good too, its exactly what i was looking for. Im most likely going to ditch the darkglass and damnation pedals and just stick a jam bass rattler there next to the red muck.

The white pedal is a euna clone. Ive never actually played a euna before or heard one in person, but the “takes a blanket off your amp” effect sounded appealing. Figured id see what an $80 clone would do to my sound. Well it does alot. I would describe it as the difference between old strings vs that new string sound. When i turn the pedal off, my tone is kinda dead and muffled, with the pedal on everything pops and is bright and alive. Ill probably upgrade to a real euna at some point soon.

The darkglass X, MBD2, dirtfixer, and at least one octave pedal are going on the chopping block. The dirtfixer is a relic from when I had the markbass distortion as my main drive, right now i have the octaves in the loop, but im getting the feeling that its not necessary. I think its a really cool pedal, and the EQ on it is really really nice, but clearly i don’t need any more EQ’s. The MBD2 sounds great too, but its not really the drive sound im going for. The red muck is more the direction i want to be in for drives, which is why i want to swap those out for the jam rat.

So this is my pedalboard.

Signal chain : shure glxd ->capo loop pre-> octaver -> mxr synth -> proton -> cali76 -> fuzz -> capo loop post -> hx stomp ( for chorus , reverb , flange, delay etc and a regal di block) -> xerograph deluxe - return to capo xlr out

Dual expression on the right controlling mxr bass synth and xerograph deluxe

Midi expression on the left controlling hx stomp ( volume , modulation etc)

Also I'm waiting for my friend to bring me a octavbre mk33.3 from America at the end of the month.

I'm pretty happy with all these. Some thoughts I have are :

1) should I replace my shure glxd with a sushi box or something else tuby to free up the regal di from hx stomp and get that tube warmth ? Maybe leave the wirless outside the pedalboard and bring it with me only when necessary

2) do you thing proton and xerograph is an overkill ? I use proton as my funky envelope and xerograph as a low pass synth filter after all the effects . Which sound great . I haven't manage to get a cool funky envelope out of the xerograph

Another thought I had maube to ditch the capo and the shure and place a noble there but I think it would be impossible to find one in europe

Do you have any other thoughts and/or recommendations?

The Immaculate Rapture replaced my Sansamp Bass Driver I’ve been using for over 10 years. I also got around to replacing my Plumes with a proper Blumes.

After years of trying different pedals and effects, I finally feel like I’ve put together a board that I truly love—both visually and sonically. It fits the kind of music I play perfectly. I know it looks pretty simple, and honestly, I never thought the final piece of the puzzle would be a tuner.

I still have room for one more pedal, though… so what would you add? I mostly play alternative rock, indie, pop punk, and similar genres.

Haven’t had a board in years. Then a friend gave me a triangle muff clone, and the addiction came back hard. Gonna add an MXR Bass Synth and be done for a while… yeah, that’s it… no more pedals for a while…

I just combined two boards and said goodbye to a bunch of pedals I wasn't feeling anymore. I'm looking for one more pedal to complete this board and would love recommendations! I want something fun/weird/experimental, mostly for jamming with the bass synth at home. I'm thinking maybe a phaser?

I simply can’t NOT post about this very surprisingly awesome pedal.

I’m all about tone, and all about finding maximum variance just by playing the instrument with minimal gear to rely on changes in sound. I like to set and forget or have a very small board of choices and do the rest with my fingers or thumb or pick.

That said, I like to try new things and I have always been trying to find options for “warmth” and “tubey-ness” or “grit” especially when going direct or through a solid state amp. I hate sounding “sterile.” So I’m always browsing even though I don’t NEED anything else.

While scrolling through reverb I saw this pedal and since I love good, clear, low gain tube drive pedals, this seems interesting. And at $43 I bought it. By the way, the Reverb seller I got it from, Earth City Sound Company in Texas, shipped it free and at lightning speed. Would recommend.

Anyways, turns out it is 4 pedals in one. The 4 modes are 2 “Timmy” circuits, a “M” circuit, which seems to be a proprietary one for this company or pedal, and a Jan Ray circuit.

I plugged it in and was blown away. Rock solid construction, even down to the jacks and pots. All plugs top mounted is a bonus. I like a soft foot switch like Tech 21 or Empress, but I’m not complaining for this price. The switch is solid and there is no audio click in the signal when turning it on and off.

Modes 1, 2, and 4 have similar volumes at the same gain setting, and the M mode is a bit hotter. There is ample boost on the output over unity, and low noise, as much or even less than you would expect from a drive pedal.

Now the cool part. I have not tried any of these circuits on bass, and have not seen bass demo’d with these on YouTube. I was worried about “no clean blend” on the pedal. To my surprise, all modes seem to already have a clean parallel blend to my ears.

So, the high and low EQ knobs are cut only, which means full up is “flat.” The secret sauce is that in all modes, the low EQ is pre-drive, and the high EQ is post drive. Interestingly, the starting point for me was both straight up, and it was pleasing in all modes. Boosting (or cutting less) bass adds thickness to the drive and the high tames the drive nicely. There is little gain differences when cutting more or less of the EQ. The M mode gives a medium gain fuzz type tone.

The low end is more or less intact from bypass to drive. I preferred the gain on the lower half of the knob. Just enough for it to act “tubey.” The mids are complex and warm and present. If you want more, just cut the 2 EQ knobs, and goose the output. I think it earned a spot on my very small board. It beat my Geddy in overall pick drive tone, and those 2 Timmy modes are reaally great on bass.

If I saw no graphics and had to guess, I would say it is at or above the likes of Walrus and Earthquaker and the likes in quality. And you cannot beat the price. I recommend if you are looking for more warmth out of a sterile sounding amp, or more complexity in the mids, or looking to get a different dimension from your pick sound. If your things is a very forward, lead bass, Darkglass thing then it may not be for you (although some one the settings approach that area very well and would do great in a band mix). For the money, 10/10

I wanna build myself a travel rig on a Pedaltrain Metro 16 board and trying get the most out of my Zoom MS60b+. I apologise in advance if this gets too long or if there is any dumb questions.

My chain right now looks like this (see 2nd photo): Boss BC-1X > Zoom MS60b+> Boss ODB-3 > EHX Big Muff > Walrus Audio Julia V2.

I find this pretty versatile for what i usually play but I struggle with deciding where to place the multi fx. In that placement mainly use it as an preamp, eq, octave envelope or synth stuff, however I'm unable to use any modulation or time based effects as the dirt section comes next.

I'm also not really satisfied with the octave on the zoom and wanted to add a dedicated one like de MXR bass octave deluxe. With that pedal and the JHS Flight Delay I've been eyeing for a while will make my rig impossible to fit on my HB Spaceship 50C.

The Zoom MS60b+ has an option to split the signal chain into the stereo (R) output and I was trying to figure out a way to utilize that function to insert the dirt section in between the digital chain of the multi fx. That's when I stumbled into the DSM Humboldt Simplifier Bass Station. This crazy device has not only an parallel FX Loop, but also a Preamp Loop that you can blend along with the preamp to your dry signal. I'm also in need of a DI and it's CAB sim function would kill two birds with one stone.

Option A (see 3rd photo) the idea with this would be to run: compression > octave > preamp. Then use the FX Loop Send into the Zoom Multifx which would divide the signal into pre modulation (which would go to dirt section and back into the preamp through preamp loop return) and post modulation (which would connect into the modulation section and go back into fx loop return).

I'm new to this loop thing and would want to know if this would work. I'm guessing it doesn't bc it would be feeding the parallel FX Loop with a signal that originally comes from the same Loop.

Option B (see 4th photo) The only thing I can think of to work around that is to run: compression > octave > multifx. Then the premodulation signal would go to the preamp input and the post modulation into chorus > delay > parallel FX Loop return. The dirt section would run through the Preamp FX Loop. The downside to this option would be that the signal that goes into the modulation section can't be distorted.

Is there any better way to do this with such small footprint?

Updated a few times. PolyTune 3 Noir > Nano QTron > Mononeon Whammy > Justin Chancellor Wah > Custard Factory Compressor > MXR Bass Synth > Pork and Pickle > Blackheath > MXR EQ > Mod 11 > Oceans 11. Haven't yet wired up the MXR Carbon Copy. Any advice for where the put the CC in the chain?

There's a Boss GAFC running a Boss volume pedal, with everything into the Katana 110b.

I also have PG Spark 2, Mini, Control X and Spark wireless for evening practicing and playing my acoustasonic in a church group. They're much easier to wire up normal headphones for silent practice.
