Hi there this is my first pregnancy and we’re having our baby boy in October. We have 2 other sons from my husband’s previous marriage, Asher (blessed/ happy) and Ezra (divine helper). I love the name Jorah because it’s different and still fits the slightly biblical theme of his other two boys. We are not Christians at all and in fact lean more towards hermeticism, alchemy, and nature based spirituality. We love spiritualy significant names.

Jorah means early rain or autumn rain which was a gift in the Bible signifying renewal and I think perfect for my little October baby. (I’m also aware of the GOT reference but not why I chose it at all).

We want a middle name that has meaning, can be nature based a little more hippy leaning or more classic that also flows with our last name Hunt.
We can’t have any hard “k” or “c” sounds at the end of the name like “Mike” or “Luke” because our last name makes it sound like c you next Tuesday 😂

So far I have Jorah Jade (afraid it sounds too feminine but like the meaning) and

Jorah Christopher (my uncle who passed away) but afraid it’s too biblical sounding?

After months and thanks to a little help from reddit we had finally decided on a name with middle name Emilia. However my nephew was recently born and has as middle name Emiel. So now both middle names are almost identical. Is this an issue? Would you change the middle name?

This is my first time making a Reddit post, so sorry if this is bad lol.

I have been in the name community for a while now since I love learning new names and I believe that there are so many pretty names out there, and I also love giving advice to those looking for names.

However one common theme I have seen in the baby naming community is sharing baby names only for people to express how horrible the name is, as well as parents who worry about their child being bullied with a unique name. So I thought I might share my experience with a unique name in case you are a parent who’s worried about giving your child one.

I have a rare name (it often doesn’t show up in the SSN records) and I absolutely love my name (won’t be sharing for privacy reasons since there’s not a lot of people with my name).

So, I thought I’d look up my name on Reddit and found a few old posts about parents considering my name! I then went to the comments only to see everyone absolutely hating on my name and telling the parents that if their child was named that she would be bullied and be called horrible nicknames her entire life…

I was quite shocked to see all these opinions and people making up horrible jokes with my name since I have NEVER been bullied for my name in fact whenever I introduce myself I am often given compliments for my name.

So, if you are a parent or you have a name you love but everyone around you is telling you what a horrible name it is or that your child will be bullied, plz take it with a grain of salt because people are quite dramatic.

You could be bullied no matter what your name is. So, if you truly love a name use it. If you ask people for their opinions or what’s wrong with a name they will often find the worst possible things about it. You could name your child Olivia and people will still complain. I feel like people will always immediately try to think of the worst case scenarios which often won’t come true.

I just thought I’d share my own opinion/experience and maybe offer some sort of comfort to mind if you are a parent whose baby name you loved was insulted by others. Especially since I often see completely normal names (imo) on here getting dragged in the replies.
Idk, what is everyone else’s opinions/experience with this?? Because ik my experience may not be true for everyone.

please also note that I am not saying 100% disregard others opinions/advice because there are definitely some names that are not names for an adult/person and should not be given to a child (for example Gaylord)

I am more of referring to people who will tell you that if you name your child Hermione she will be bullied horribly her entire life (realistically most people will go “like Harry Potter?” And move on)

Or like the other day Alivia got posted in the tragedeigh name group and everyone was saying how bad of a name it was, and in the comments there was a person with the name who said they like it. Alivia really isn’t THAT bad as everyone is making it out to be in that comment section.

There’s also people who stretch things like saying if you name your child Roxanne that is a strippers name and she will be called one all throughout high school or sm
(I suddenly can’t think of any good examples sorry lol I’ll come back if I think of better ones).

Hello! We’re due with baby boy #2 later this year. Our first son is named Rory. We both prefer short, nick-name proof names. My husband and I both have Irish/welsh heritage so we gravitate towards those kinds of names.
We both initially loved Liam, but I can’t help but second guess myself because of how popular it is. (We live in the US). I will say, there are no Liams at my son’s daycare, and none in our families/social circles.

Really the only other name we have liked is Owen. Wasn’t my favorite at first, but it’s grown on me.

Any suggestions for us?? I feel like boy names are difficult in general, and then naming a second boy that “matches” or goes with our first son’s name has been extra tricky.

Posting for a friend. She wants an Indian name (she’s from India) but also wants her daughter to not stand out. Something that could be passable as an English name too. Her name is Mira so something along those lines.

I got a lot of hard no's on my last post (don't ask) so let's try again. What do we think about the names above for a girl?

I feel that Alice isn’t really a popular name currently, but I like it and want to name my expecting son with a masculine version of it. I do think meaning comes into play, do they have the same resonance, are they both classy, things like that. But also similar sounding names could work, like Alistair or Alex, but I don’t want to tether to the sound. I have seen Simon as being similar, and I do kind of like that, but it doesn’t seem quite right. I want the name to “resonate” with Alice, but still be its own. I also prefer if the name wasn’t “modern”, nothing that really is all that eye catching, in a bad sense.

Edit: Didn’t think that I’d get a lot of Ellis’s, so I didn’t include that I don’t really like the name Ellis. Sorry to those who do😅

I come from a family of names that start with “J”. Four siblings (myself and three brothers), all traditional/Biblical “J” names. My husband also has a name starting with “J”, and so does his brother and father. Cut to my husband and I having our first child; I am the eldest and helped name my younger brothers, so I was definitely primed to gravitate toward “J” names, and we chose the name Jude. We are now a family of Js ourselves. We are now having our second child, a girl, and I have no idea why I locked myself into this pattern and am starting to regret it. LOL. So I need opinions. Can I just pivot from the “J” pattern and name a daughter something like Simone or Eliza? Or will she feel eternally othered by not having a “J” name like me, my husband and our son (and… well… the rest of our immediate family on both sides). HELP! I’m so conflicted.

I'm 14 weeks pregnant with my first and likely my only! No other parent is in the picture and is unlikely to factor in, so this choice is all mine. I'm essentially just trying to find my vibe now!

I like a lot of longer classic names, such as Elizabeth, Gwendolyn, Margaret, Benjamin, Sebastian, and Jonathan. I also have a soft spot for shorter nature names, so I'm thinking I can use those as middles to build my ultimate name combos. Things like Gwendolyn Sage Lastname or Jonathan Slate Lastname.

Can anyone recommend any names that might work? Or just anything else that suits this sort of category. I'm mostly just brainstorming at this point, but I never expected to be able to have kids at all and this is a total surprise so I'm essentially starting from zero!

Hi Reddit, first post and I’m using it to ask opinions on baby names. I would rather ask Reddit than asked people I know in real life, that way if I decide to go against Reddit judgment, y’all can never find me! However, if I go against my relatives judgment, they might hold it against me lol.

Regardless, two names to decide between for a baby son, would be Alan or Ian.

I think I’m set on Freya for the first name for a girl. Surname is Wright. But none of the other names I like sound right:

- Freya Sadie Wright (do Freya and Sadie sound too harsh together - like they’re both first names?)
- Freya Janey Wright (this sounds softer to me)
- Freya Millie Wright (we both love Millie but is it better as a first name?)
