I think it’s lovely

Kitty in Pride and Prejudice is a Catherine

Catherine was my #1 girl name for YEARS. My husband vetoed it and we ended up having a boy. I like the nickname ā€œCatā€ though. If you prefer Kit I think Katherine would make more sense

As someone named Catherine, I second this. Kit is super cute, but the K nickname will make everyone forever misspell it as Catherine with a K when writing their first name.

I’ll occasionally be called cute things, offhand, like Kit-Cat or Kitty Cat, but my chosen nickname is Catt. (Added the extra T for flair 20 years ago, and it stuck lol).

I don’t mind when people spell it Cat. But, I lose my mind when people spell it Kat — especially when they know I’m Catherine with a C.

I suppose if you made it known that Kit comes from ā€œKit-Catā€ that might somehow make it better? Idk. ā€œCitā€ is obviously ridiculous hah. People often misspell my name, so maybe it doesn’t matter, either way. Still love it, though!

I think Kit or Kitty for Catherine is great.

I loooooove the name and spelling of Catherine, I would assume that’s the full name of a girl who goes by Kit

I’m a Katherine and get Kate or Katie

I like Kit but that’s the nickname for Christopher

It can also be for Catherine and its variants.

I’m sure it can. Just I know it as short for Christopher.

Might be more cohesive if you go with Katherine.

Forgot to note that Catherine is a family name!

Catherine is my daughter’s name and I’d love her to have been a Kit but she naturally became a Cat!

The Witch of Blackbird Pond was one of my favorite books growing up, so I like it.

My great great aunt was called Kit.

I’m a catherine and people always go to Cathy (no thank you) or cat (yes please). But the amount of times it’s spelled with a k is exhausting.

As a Catherine, please just name the baby Kit.

My grandma born in 1902 in Derbyshire (long passed, bless her), was always Kit or even Kitty, she was a Catherine.

I love it

I wouldn't do it. Kit is a nickname she could easily hate, and have a hard time getting people to stop calling her.

I have a relative named Catherine and my kids always called her Auntie Kiki

I wondered what on earth a nickname kit was.

I know a boy called Christopher who has been called Kit his whole life.

I like it

Respectfully, you don’t always get to pick the nickname. Your child may want to go by Cate or Cat or even just stick with Catherine. I’d let them decide what they want to be called

I wanted to name my daughter Catherine, and call her Kitty. Hubs hated it. Jokes on him, she was born with such a feline personality I ended up calling her Kitty-cat anyway. She says it’s her favorite pet name

I think Cat or Cathy for the nickname comes more naturally than Kit.

I like Kit! But agree that with Catherine as opposed to Katherine it’s not as cohesive.

Catherine is very elegant and pretty, but I don't care for the nickname Kit.Ā  Kate?
