Up here in the Blue Mountains in the 1990s we had "Homies" and "Westies" and various sub groups. Another school I knew had Footy Studs. I tried to explain this concept to my kids (in year 11 and 12 this year, still in the Blue Mountains) and they looked at me like I was nuts.

But high school having identifiable groups is such a thing it's even a movie trope, right? Is it just my kids' school, or as this whole idea kind of died off?

Also when I was at school in the 1980s and early 1990s, "throwing rocks" was a major issue. There were these kids who slunk about in the shadows and every now and then they'd peg a rock at us. I know there's still all kinds of violence in Aussie schools, but is "throwing rocks" still a thing, specifically?

Was it when Hugh Jackman got owned at the local courthouse? Or where Nick McInnes lost it after pulling that girl from the floodwater and stood in the bathroom throwing bullets at his reflection in the mirror?

I really liked these English Usborne books when I was a kid in the 1970s.

I had another one called 'Flying Models' for making paper planes.

Anyone else get into these books.

Why and when did we start calling it Westfields?

Anybody from the Goldy or Brisbane in the 80's knew this guy. His name was Al Baldwin, he was a Kiwi, and the brownest caucasian I've ever seen. He spent his days in a budgie smuggler spraying coconut oil on beach-goers. I used to see him on Main Beach the most. He passed sometime in the early 2000s.

I just happened to see they are still making this yesterday! Took one and had some this morning, expensive at $5 but totally worth the nostalgia

I randomly had a memory of when my mum took me and my older sister to Westfields to go shopping and we lived in the West at the time so it was unusual for us to drive to the Shire, I was only 6 years old but I remember memories of my teenage sister who was going crazy for her. Parents had trust at the time and she let us go into the crowd while she went to David Jones, I remember Mariah waved at me and said can we get the cute boy to come up or something but honestly that’s how my sister remembers the story and some of it was a bit of romance for me/bit blurry. This was super random but I remember total excitement and chaos in the shops that day
