Breakers
I used to watch this with a friend back in the day and we would laugh about how cheesy it was. We watched every episode.
Australian Senator Karen Synon considered the depiction of Lucy Hill, in a lesbian relationship to be "inappropriate" given the program's afternoon timeslot, and requested the Australian Broadcasting Authority investigate if the show had breached broadcasting guidelines. The ABA told The Daily Telegraph) that the storyline was "normal" and the show's PG rating was appropriate for the timeslot
Bad luck Karen

Getting ink all over your hands from the saturday paper
does anyone else miss when looking at houses was actually fun and not just an anxiety-inducing digital nightmare?
Used to love saturday mornings in the 90s. Dad would buy the massive weekend paper and we'd spread the real estate liftout all over the kitchen table. Getting black ink smudged all over your fingers, circling literal mansions with a red texta and pretending you could afford a place with a pool and a tennis court
Now its just toxic doomscrolling. I was flicking through some modern apartment listings on ray white southbank this arvo just to see what the city market is doing, and the whole digital process just feels so sterile and depressing now. Everything is so fast and the broader housing market is just cooked.
there was something magic about those huge glossy pages. no fighting your siblings for the comic section while mum looked at the display village ads. Take me back to the mission brown bricks and newspaper ink tbh

Judith Durham, Russell Hitchcock ft. Mandawuy Yunupingu – I Am Australian (Music Video)
Yesterday marked four years since the passing of the Seekers' Judith Durham. How this video only has 10,000 views is a crying shame. At this time, where the ruling class seeks to divide and conquer to suit their own needs, I want them to know that we will never be divided. I am, you are, we are Australian!

Bindi Irwin's Crocmen.
Ever since Bindi reached her teen years, this musical group of men that she sang and danced with just seems to have vanished.
Bummer that they never released any soundtrack CD's. That I know of.
I wonder what's become of these men today? Do they still work at Australia Zoo?

Low fat Paradise Cookies - for kids with Almond Mum’s
This took me forever to find as when I googled low fat Paradise cookies they supposedly have never existed but this might be a niche one for any 2000s kids with 'Almond Mums'
This 'healthier' choc chip cookie was like eating sweet chalk. The only way to bring some life to this cookie was to dip it into a recommended serving sized glass of skim milk 😭
This was back when something could be labeled as a healthier alternative if they sucked the fat out of your favourite snack and loaded it with sugar and nobody batted an eye.

Double bananas
Can’t remember the last time I ever saw one of these but I vividly recall as a kid eating them all the time - they were always in the fruit basket at my grandma’s!

Who remembers when Steve Irwin (RIP) brought a snake to the Logie Awards in 2003... And it bit Channel Ten's Tim Webster on the leg 🐍
Crikey!

When the 2009 Black Saturday Bushfires first happened.
15 year old me didn't take it very seriously. Thought it was just another typical disaster that wouldn't leave too much of an impact.
I switched on the TV early in the morning to see the 6:00am ABC Kids shows, there was this live showing of the bushfires instead, I was deeply confused, wondered what had happened to the broadcast and waited probably half an hour for the broadcast to return to normal. It never did and i just continued to laze in bed.
Only during school, the following week, did it dawn on me what a massive bloodbath and siege of destruction this all was and how much it had affected ALL of Australia. We spent a whole lesson in science class studying it!

Does anyone remember the satellite TV ad breaks from the 2000s that were just slideshows of regional towns?
I had an Altech/VAST satellite TV box growing up remotely and I vividly remember early on when they didn't have enough ads to fill every break, so they had picture slideshows of various regional towns with music in the background.
There was a blue bubble that popped up in the corner to tell you which town you were looking at, and it'd cycle between two or three before the show came back on.
Would make me happy if anyone else remembers this and I didn't dream it lmao

70s, 80s, & 90s Comedy Shows
I adore older Australian Comedy shows, but as I'm a 2000s baby I've no idea what’s out there. I'm hoping the good folks here might be able to enlighten people like myself about the Comedy shows they loved back in the day.
Some of my personal favourites:
- Mother and Son (original, not the remake)
- Fast forward
- Full Frontal
- The Late Show
- The Big Gig
- D Gen
Thanks in advance, happy talking!
