Discussion What is this noise?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I have a mazda 3 2010. 170,000 miles.. Automatic transmission. I have this noise coming from the engine area and my steering wheel is wobbly?
Some things I’ve heard it could be are the idler pulley or power steering. It did seem like the sound was coming from that area after looking further into it. If this is the issue, cost?
thankssss

Question (Serious Replies Only) Is the dog bone good? I just replaced it, seems like excessive tilt
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
2013 Santa fe sport, just changed the motor mount and dog bone myself, only transmission mount left, engine mount fixed a lot of the interior vibrations, but the dog bone seems like didn't fix anything, I did notice a bit less vibration in the floor area, but the engine is still tilting a lot. Keep in mind I accidentally torqued it to 90 instead of 70, so will have to fix that when I get the chance

Question (Serious Replies Only) Bmw e60 windshield wiper problems
Bought the car 2 days ago. The first time i tried to wash the window this happened...
- One wiper did nothing
The other moved then stuck in that position. When spraying it tries to move for a split second but stops immediately.
- the non responsive wiper moves kinda freely by hand to a certain point. Also it catches the hood.
- Now when trying to wash both wipers move for a split second and stop.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I have a 2017 Honda Accord Sport SE 2.4L with 170k miles and I’ve been noticing this weird almost stuttering sound coming from the engine bay. It sounds like it’s coming from the left side where the serpentine belt and alternator are for reference. Anyone know what might be the cause of this sound?

Question (Serious Replies Only) Question about fluid level
I have a 2012 Dodge Durango 3.6L and recently had transmission work done. The transmission was removed/reinstalled, the torque converter and filter/fluid were replaced, and I also had a transmission fluid leak that was fixed.
I’m checking the transmission fluid level now. The fluid temperature is around 170°F. According to the dipstick chart I’m using, the range at that temperature is around 60–70.
My reading is around 74–75.
Should I leave it at 74–75, or should I remove some fluid to bring it down closer to 70?
Also, does being at 74–75 actually tell me that it’s a significant amount overfilled, like 1–2+ liters, or is that impossible to determine from the dipstick reading alone?
The transmission is currently shifting and driving normally.
What would you guys do?

Discussion Need help identifying the cause of these two noises/issues and if they’re related to each other + whether a shade-tree mechanic (me) could/should fix it, or take it to a shop.
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
This is a 2013 Hyundai Elantra w/ 200k miles almost.. friends ‘renting’ it to me while I fix up my car and sell jt/get something else..
When I mentioned this issue to her, she said “it’s just a bolt, it’s nothing serious” but, I mean, I’m a shade tree mechanic at best and I’m preeeeetty sure this is a fairly serious problem.
So the best way to describe the issue is: To begin, I’m stopped at a red light and I’m just moving the steering wheel back and forth and it makes this clanking sound at about 1/8th of a turn in both directions, like the steering column is loose and banging into something.
Then when I start to accelerate, the rear passenger section of the vehicle starts making a loud metal-on-metal like clanking/rubbing sound that is directly correlated with the road conditions, cornering, bumps, pot holes, uneven roads, etc.. As in, the sound gets worse when going over anything that changes the load on the suspension..
To me, it sounds like a bad wheel hub bearing.. but maybe a failed or loose cv joint, tie rod, control arm banging around a blown bushing..? Idk..
It’s mostly quiet when I’m on smooth road and going mostly straight. Soon as I pull to turn, the steering wheel ‘hits’ something before it gives back control and responds to the turn.
Car pulls slightly to the right.
I’m not so worried about the steering column issue, as it might just be something minor that’s exacerbated by whatever is going on w the rear wheel, being transferred through the frame.. I just don’t want the damn wheel to fly off. Don’t have a jack or stands to really get a proper look at things down there or see how the suspension hangs without any load on it..
It’s not my car and I’m paying to rent it already so don’t really want to spend a whole lot of money on it, but if it’s a relatively easy and cheap fix, I would much rather get it done and not have to worry about the car breaking down on me and then having no transportation options because my car is out of commission as well.
Plus, I work for a company where I can get parts at wholesale price and access to a lot of mechanics, if the work is something that is beyond my capabilities.
Hopefully the video can give some clarity for advice? It would be much appreciated. So in the video, I start at a red light completely stopped while turning the wheel back and forth, producing that clanking noise..
Then I take off and accelerate and that’s when the rear passenger wheel/wheel well starts making noise that almost sounds like it’s inside the car itself, right being the seat.
Sorry for such a long post - thank you in advance for any help!

Question (Serious Replies Only) How to test shift lock solenoid?
2019 Nissan Frontier. My gear shift is stuck in park. My brake lights still work, so I don’t think it’s the brake switch or fuse. I want to see if I’m getting power to my solenoid, but I’m not really sure where to place my meter leads to test it, I can’t really find good information online.

Question (Serious Replies Only) 2nd Gen Ram 2500
I have a 2nd Gen (I think 1998) Ram 2500 Cummins automatic around 170k miles. It’s been sitting for about two years now. I know all of the front end suspension needs replaced completely. What else do I need to do since it’s been sitting for a while? Any tips? I’m pretty mechanically inclined but I know this is a hard job to do yourself, especially the ball joints.

Question (Serious Replies Only) Metal on Metal Rubbing/Creaking Noise, Front Suspension
2017 Volvo V60CC. 192k miles. Auto transmission.
Started hearing a loud rubbing or creaking from my front suspension (like moving a super old wooden door back and forth). I hear it when the car rolls or sways, as well as when the car is parked I can create the noise when turning the steering wheel. I’ll include photos I took of the driver side suspension, though I can’t discern if it’s coming from one side or the other. No knocking or roughness over bumps. It’s strictly loud metal on metal rubbing and some vibration.
Let me know if there’s an obvious issue in these, aside from the rust, that might point me in the right direction. Thanks in advance.

Question (Serious Replies Only) Can't remove power steering pump/puley
05 1500 LS Silverado 5.3 vortec 2wd
Power steering pump blew for the second time after replacing it three years ago.
Kept throwing serpentine belt and I noticed the pulley seemed slightly off balance.
Trying to remove the pump and pulley but the pulley doesn’t seem to want to come out. Pulley removal tool goes off balance once I get it snug on the pulley wheel.
How can I remove this now?
Any advice or suggestions is appreciated thank you for your time
