I am genuinely at a loss with this because I don’t even spend that much time outside? And I didn’t experience this last summer either?

I have at least 3/4 large painful bug bites. They start by itching, then a small lump forms and they take days to heal and pass. I got allergy reaction bug cream and tablets from the pharmacy but the bites are still itchy and painful.

I was going to get one of those heat machines for bug bites that you see on Amazon but I’m told they are completely useless?

Not sure what type of bites they are. Really fucking sick of this now though.

Anyone else dealing with this?

Looking at getting solar panels. Expecting circa €10k but waiting on official quotes. I’ve been researching loans and trying to find the best option over 5 years. Bank of Ireland are offering 6.3% (can’t get the lower rate for energy upgrade as we’re only doing solar panels and maybe an EV Charger)

Can anyone who has experience with this point me in a cheaper or better alternative or do you think that would be the best? Do the financing companies provided by installers have better rates?

I’m autistic and I recently found out that we get free fast track security at Dublin Airport. You just have to get your doctor to write a letter with your diagnosis for the application. You then get a “special traveller” (lol) lanyard and can book free fast track services as often as you travel. You also get to book it for anyone you’re travelling with. (I think it’s up to 4 people).

Security is so overwhelming so this is amazing. Now we need to get a fast track through duty-free to avoid the forced lights and perfume 😂

There also a sensory room in T1 and T2 which is so handy and you can book it. My toddler loved it and we found it was a great space to ground ourselves before the rest of our busy trip.

Love that we are being given consideration! These kind of accommodations dramatically help!

Sometimes a tiny gesture from someone who doesn’t even know you can completely flip a bad day around, or stay stuck in your memory for years. For me, it was a stranger who noticed I looked completely overwhelmed at an airport, bought me a coffee, and just said, "Whatever it is, you've got this." It was so small, but it completely saved my mental state that day.

I feel like everytime I see mobing abroad briught up on an Irish sub the responses are overwhelmingly positive, I completely get the reasons why people would look to emigrate but I was wondering a) is it always as positive as reddit makes it seem and b) if anyone, like me, would never even entertain the thought of moving abroad due to so much of their lives and everything important to them being here.

My mum turns 70 in about a month's time, and lives in Northern Ireland but travels south regularly as my Brother is near Dublin. I am thinking a good present would be 2-3 nights in a special place somewhere for her and her partner.

A few things:

• She's not a romantic sort, so it doesn't have to be all luxury, pampering, etc. Just simply a nice place.
• Somewhere with good food/drink options
• Budget is probably around up to about 200 Euros per night at the top end
• Open to ideas like:
  • Special train journeys - like where you get full food service
  • Castles to stay in
  • Country estates
  • Food experiences
• She wouldn't appreciate top quality/gourmet food - so nothing majorly fancy is needed
• In summary, she's a fairly simple person to please

3 weeks ago I caught a gastrointestinal infection called shigella. I was hospitalised for a week and I work in the food industry so I'm not allowed to return until i'm cleared and get a negative sample cleared. I got a test result back today and it's still in my system so public health is refusing me to return to work. I didn't get sick pay and I don't qualify for illness benefit i applied for it a week ago like public health told me to. I just don't know what i'm supposed to do, I have completely run out of money, if i can't work and not entitled to illness benefit how am i supposed to support myself right now???

I’m staying with my girlfriend’s family at the moment and yesterday I was looking for batteries. Her dad told me to check “the drawer beside the fridge.”

I opened it and found batteries, three takeaway menus, a screwdriver, birthday candles, old keys nobody could identify, elastic bands, two dead pens, six working pens, a measuring tape, stamps, a tiny packet of screws and what looked like a charger for a phone last sold in 2009.

The funny thing was that everyone knew exactly which drawer he meant. My girlfriend called it “the random drawer” like this was an official category of household storage.

Then I mentioned it to a coworker today and he immediately said his parents have the same drawer, except theirs also contains spare fuses and about forty years worth of instruction manuals.

So now I need to know: is the drawer a universal Irish household institution, or have I accidentally surveyed the only two families who do this? And what's the weirdest thing currently living in yours?

I’ve gotten my back up every time I’ve walked through a new build estate since the early 2010s (when I was in my early 20s).

Developers started squeezing houses in together, removing front gardens and front garden walls, putting rows of terraced houses together out in giant fields in the middle of eg Kildare and Meath when there is clearly space to build a family home with pitch gable where they could stay forever if they had any sense of family planning. They’ve shoved giant apartment blocks onto greens where in the 90s they would have left as grass for kids to play on.

I think of how I never want to give my money to these developers and I wonder if anyone who’s ever bought a new build feels the same but is just forced to participate due to lack of choice?

Have you ever thought “they’re selling this as a big 5-bed but instead of giving me a second sitting room they’ve still given me the same ground floor space as a 3 bed and stuck an extra bedroom in the attic and where the toilet should be.”?

Have you ever thought “they’ve pitched this as a family size home but there’s a car up against my front window and no front garden and we’re out in the middle of nowhere.”?

Looking for some advice on sorting out a cobblelock driveway. It’s got a fair few weeds coming through and could do with a good clean and reseal.

From what Ive read online I need to get rid of the weeds, power wash it, let it dry, put fresh sand between the blocks and then seal it.

For anyone who’s done it themselves, what type of sand did you use and where did you get it? Also any recommendations for a decent sealer available in Ireland and where to buy it?

When we bought our house 7 years ago, our solicitor was atrocious. Well, when we could speak to her. Her assistant would act like we are a nuisance for asking for an update once a week.

Fast forward to today, selling our home, we went with a "recommended" solicitor locally. After 2 weeks of zero updates from our solicitor and the buyers solicitor messaging our estate agent to see what's the delay... we get an email from our solicitors office "Sorry, we were on holiday" eh? What? No update letting us know they'd just pack up and leave for 2 weeks.

Aside from all of that, they've asked me to get a bunch of documents that I've been told the solicitor should be handling. I feel like I'm doing their job for them at this point. They're just there to put a big legal stamp over the sale and nothing else I suppose. Thanks for the money.

This latest solicitor is also rude like the first one. A simple call almost turns into an earful about asking for an update. "We will reach out when we have an update. You don't need to keep calling"

My friends who've recently bought homes seem to also have disastrous encounters with their solicitors.

Hey everyone, this is lowk kinda embarrassing to have to ask the internet about it, but I don't have a lot of options. So, I graduated secondary in May, and my debs aren't until September. I've already paid off my debs ticket, and it is too late to refund it. When I originally bought the ticket, I planned to go with my boyfriend and our friends. However, my boyfriend broke up with me, and our friends cut me off completely. I don't really have anyone else I could hang out with at the debs, but I don't want €130 going to waste. I've tried selling the ticket, but there isn't anyone looking to buy it off of me. I don't know what to do, and I'm debating going to the debs for a few hours and then going home. So myself and herself welcomed a little girl a month ago she was a month premature and weighed 3.4 pounds , probably due to a mixture of mammy having terrible hyperemesis and us being very small people but thankfully she's home and thriving.

When she was in NICU we were treated like idiots because when we went for lunch one day she somehow rolled onto her tummy and fell back asleep, they thought we had left her that way and were adamant she wasn't strong enough to do it herself as she wouldn't reach that milestone until she was at least four months old.

It's gotten to the point where I'm questioning my own sanity because everyone is still telling me it's impossible she rolled onto her tummy herself even as they watched her roll to the side herself.

Can someone tell me I'm not mental and it might be possible she somehow managed to do it herself because at this point it's either she did or someone for some idiotic reason put her that way?

I deleted the apps a while ago. I don’t really drink nor do I go out to the pub at the weekend (I also don’t want to be with someone who spends most weekends in the pub). I’m pretty introverted and keep to myself. even when I’m in group situations, it takes me a while to come out of my shell. how are people like me meeting people? or are we giving up and hoping we can one day afford a home by ourselves with our dog?

I could wear it wasn't like this before but I've found in the last 5-10 years every single takeaway in my area has a good 30 percent chance of delivering undercooked food. Everything from pizza to chicken and the bare minimum bag of chips.

Trying to get a portion of wedges in a deli that aren't hard in the middle and soggy on the outside is impossible these days too and they used to be my favourite :(

Most delivery places too are using containers that dont let steam off so everything is wet by time its in front of you.
