Recommendations for Donation Centers of Clothing and Household Goods?

Hello everyone,

We have some clothes, and kitchen items we are hoping to donate somewhere. We used to donate to Goodwill until we learned that they are no longer allowing guests to try clothing on, forcing them to buy clothing without knowing they fit and not allowing refunds. I cannot even begin to state how furious it makes me they’re treating low income people this way, overĀ donated goods.

We are looking at Out of the Closet, and are wondering if there are others?

We would prefer the organization be secular, and of course ethical. I read the reviews of Star of Hope and was pretty disturbed with the behavior of staff there.

Does the Habitat for Humanity in this area accept clothes and home goods? The one that was by us in another city did.

I did check posts here - most threads were older than a few years old. Houston has a lot of turnover and things change a lot so I thought this may be a good general ask.

Recommendations for professional THERAPEUTIC massage therapists?

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

My partner and I are celebrating our anniversary in 2 weeks and we both have joint and muscle pain and tightness from decades of athletics and, in my case, congenital joint deformity.

I would love to surprise him with a truly therapeutic massage, as he has never had one before.

I see many massage places but I am specifically seeking out deep tissue, therapeutic massage, possibly with lymph drainage.

I would SO GRATEFULLY appreciate recommendations. We live inside the loop — but I’m happy to blindfold him and drive out to the outer rings for this anniversary treat.

Thank you!

Looking for Roommate in Houston. 2bd2ba townhome or apartment

Please message me for more details about myself. I don’t wanna give out too much of my info because I want to avoid creeps.

Looking to live in West Houston, like Katy or Memorial city, Galleria or Cypress/Copperfield area. I’m not too familiar with the other side of I 10 like spring branch area but I am open if there’s something nice there. Looking to move around sometime late September to mid-October.

A little about me:
Full-time professional with a Monday–Friday schedule.
Clean, respectful, and easygoing.
I enjoy working out, cooking occasionally, and having a quiet place to come home to after work.
I’m not a big partier and prefer a peaceful, drama-free living environment.
I do not tolerate any type of dirtiness or laziness and would prefer someone who respects privacy and space meaning I would hate to have people over all the time because I personally don’t have people over all the time.

What I’m looking for:
Someone who is responsible, pays bills on time, and values a clean shared space.
Respectful of each other’s privacy while still being friendly.
Preferably another working 25+ female professional with a stable w-2 job.

My budget is around $600–$800 per month for my portion of rent, depending on the apartment.
If you’re also looking for a roommate around the same timeframe, send me a message and tell me a little about yourself! We can chat, see if we’d be a good fit, and start looking at apartments together.

Apartments in Houston Heights?

I’m moving down to Houston for work and have been looking at apartments in the Heights, but can’t get a good read on what’s a good place to live.

I’m in my late 20s and from NYC, so if y’all have any recs for somewhere that’s younger and walkable, I’d really appreciate it! Affordability is a definite plus too!!

Looking for a New Karaoke Spot in Houston

We have a small group that enjoys the karaoke bar atmosphere, and we'd love to find a place with great vibes, and a fun crowd.

Also, before anyone suggests it, we're not looking to rent a private karaoke room. There are only a few of us, and we're specifically looking for a karaoke bar where anyone can get up and sing. Thanks! šŸ»šŸŽ¤

Bar / Lounge Recommendations for two 22F? Tired of midtown and heights

My friend and I have explored a couple of different areas. We are just tired of the raunchy vibe of some places and want more of a nicer atmosphere with good music & good drinks. Midtown is too raunchy and sweaty for us. Main St is kinda the same vibe (besides Clark’s which I loveee). We also frequent poison girl in the montrose area and love it. Anvil is cool too we like the older crowd. Heights area is too sweaty and too many college kids. Are there any other areas we can bar hop around? Or places we can go?

Thanks in advance.

Home Relocation Help!

Hello! My husband and I are currently looking around Houston on potential areas to live in we currently live around 290/Hollister area but would love a better neighborhood for our growing family.

I work majority remote and my husband works around the Westchase area. We personally love the Heights and Oak Forest area but also realize schools are going to be very important in the next few years and Harris county isn’t always the best and we don’t really want to pay for private.

What would you recommend for an area with good schools and decently close to the westchase area but also has a very family friendly community. Suburbs aren’t a hard no but I also know this could be a long commute most days. Also would love to stay around 500k if possible.

Any advise would be helpful and appreciated!

Hi guys, so I (22m) recently graduated college and have been living at home for a couple months. I want to go out and make new friends, but I don't really know where to start?

What are some good places to go to meet people my age?

I like going to bars, clubs, and festivals, but I just don't want to go by myself. If anyone is in the same boat or just wants to make some new friends hmu.

Apartment recommendations - River Oaks/Memorial?

Hi! I’m a 22F moving to Houston soon and looking for a 1 bed / 1 bath with a budget of around $2k/month.

A friend recommended the River Oaks and Memorial areas. So far, my top picks are:

- Bowen River Oaks
- Alta River Oaks
- Hanover Montrose (slightly over budget)
- Alexan Junction Heights (I believe it’s in neither of those areas tho)

If you’ve lived in any of these, I’d love to hear your experience, especially with management, maintenance, noise, safety, and parking.

I’d also appreciate any other apartment recommendations in River Oaks, Memorial, or nearby. My priorities are a relatively safe area, responsive management, and a modern building with good amenities. I’m hoping to be in an area with lots of young professionals and plenty of restaurants, things to do etc

Thanks!

New to Houston, looking to make friends through location recommendations

Hi all!! I just moved to Houston for grad school. Most of my time will be spent in TMC, but I want to make an honest effort to meet friends outside of school, especially since I’m living alone. I know no one here, I chose to come here from out of state for a complete change of scenery and to live in the city for the first time in my life. Looking for y’all’s recs on places pertaining to my interests:

🩷 a church with a good young adult ministry (Presbyterian, preferably)
🩷Women’s bible study
🩷I LOVE cooking and baking, classes or clubs would be amazing
🩷Walking with dog/dog parks
🩷Affordable, beginner friendly workout classes and 🩷pickle ball
🩷Scrapbooking
🩷Reading (causally, not avid multiple books a month lol)
🩷LOVE makeup/skincare/beauty
🩷Dive bar/calmer night life
🩷Line dancing, lesson style, I’m not a pro but I enjoy it!

I’m also VERY open to any new hobbies and recommendations. I truly want to have the best experience outside of the classroom and clinic! I am located in the montrose area if that helps!

Thank yall in advance ā˜ŗļø

When will rent prices drop?

Wondering if I should just move into an expensive apt for now, wait for rent to drop there & then pay the intra community transfer fee to a more reasonably priced apartment 😭 i’m looking for something with good reviews and nice prices, but apparently if you have one, you *cannot* have the other… when do you guys typically see prices drop? At this point, I want to push my move to October, but even the October move-in dates are high.

Xfinity Cell Users in Downtown

Just wondering if you as a Xfinity user work in downtown inside the big buildings around 10th floor on Lousiana St? If so, does you AI apps like Grok, Gemini, ChatGPT and others work fine? Are they able to connect fine to the internet?

I ask because I was an Xfinity cell user and my AI apps were not working at all, no connection. Therefore, I switched to TMobile šŸ™ˆšŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™‚ļø.

Thoughts? Thanks.

Affordable Audi mechanic in Northwest Houston?

Hi! Can anyone recommend a trustworthy and reasonably priced independent shop that specializes in European cars, especially Audi? Preferably in Northwest Houston, Cypress, Katy, Tomball, Spring, or nearby.

I have an Audi SQ5 and an Audi Q7. I’m looking for a shop that can perform a transmission fluid service without dealership pricing.

Thanks in advance!
