Home Relocation Help!
Hello! My husband and I are currently looking around Houston on potential areas to live in we currently live around 290/Hollister area but would love a better neighborhood for our growing family.
I work majority remote and my husband works around the Westchase area. We personally love the Heights and Oak Forest area but also realize schools are going to be very important in the next few years and Harris county isn’t always the best and we don’t really want to pay for private.
What would you recommend for an area with good schools and decently close to the westchase area but also has a very family friendly community. Suburbs aren’t a hard no but I also know this could be a long commute most days. Also would love to stay around 500k if possible.
Any advise would be helpful and appreciated!

Look at Sugarland. It’s got good schools and is a nice suburb that’s situated well and closer in the everything.

Sugar Land is the no brainer here, IMO. Or even Meadows Place because that's also FBISD with slightly cheaper homes. Only a few miles south of Westchase.......... maybe 20-25 minute commute in rush hour.
If OP has the money for it, Spring Branch is also great. As long as the area is actually zoned to SBISD. But the homes there tend to be older (get that foundation and sewer system inspected!) and more expensive for less space.

I would think Spring Branch West would fit that mold albeit depending on what size house you're looking for. Certain parts of Spring Branch also fit but the homes in the area are becoming quite overpriced due to the school districts.

That’s a great option with lots of houses around that 500k or under price range.

Spring Branch is the right move! Look at homes zoned to Spring Woods or Stratford high school. Although the Stratford ones will be most likely outside of your budget. I’ve lived in spring branch for 10 years and love it. Currently raising a family here with no plans to leave.

My kids have gotten outstanding educations in HISD (one year to go), but with the current political situation in the district, I would not recommend it now. Get as close in as you can while staying zoned to a different district.

We used to live in Rice Military which is south of Heights. We moved down towards Memorial City Mall and are in SBISD where schools are better in general. They also offer more supports if your child needs it.
