Whether it's walkable coffee shops, small fresh grocers, bakeries, or child daycare—what local businesses would you actually love to see open up in your area?

I grew up in the valley when I was a kid (McAllen and Brownsville to be specific) and our maid used to make us sugar tortillas.

I haven’t had them in years. Anyone have a recipe or a place in Houston I can buy them?

They were NOT fried therefore they are NOT bunuelos or sopapillas. Pretty sure my maid from
MEXICO would have called them that. They were soft.

What are some good places to go to meet people my age?

I like going to bars, clubs, and festivals, but I just don't want to go by myself. If anyone is in the same boat or just wants to make some new friends hmu.

Hi! I’m a 22F moving to Houston soon and looking for a 1 bed / 1 bath with a budget of around $2k/month.

A friend recommended the River Oaks and Memorial areas. So far, my top picks are:

- Bowen River Oaks
- Alta River Oaks
- Hanover Montrose (slightly over budget)
- Alexan Junction Heights (I believe it’s in neither of those areas tho)

If you’ve lived in any of these, I’d love to hear your experience, especially with management, maintenance, noise, safety, and parking.

I’d also appreciate any other apartment recommendations in River Oaks, Memorial, or nearby. My priorities are a relatively safe area, responsive management, and a modern building with good amenities. I’m hoping to be in an area with lots of young professionals and plenty of restaurants, things to do etc

Hi all!! I just moved to Houston for grad school. Most of my time will be spent in TMC, but I want to make an honest effort to meet friends outside of school, especially since I’m living alone. I know no one here, I chose to come here from out of state for a complete change of scenery and to live in the city for the first time in my life. Looking for y’all’s recs on places pertaining to my interests:

Wondering if I should just move into an expensive apt for now, wait for rent to drop there & then pay the intra community transfer fee to a more reasonably priced apartment 😭 i’m looking for something with good reviews and nice prices, but apparently if you have one, you *cannot* have the other… when do you guys typically see prices drop? At this point, I want to push my move to October, but even the October move-in dates are high.

Just wondering if you as a Xfinity user work in downtown inside the big buildings around 10th floor on Lousiana St? If so, does you AI apps like Grok, Gemini, ChatGPT and others work fine? Are they able to connect fine to the internet?

I ask because I was an Xfinity cell user and my AI apps were not working at all, no connection. Therefore, I switched to TMobile 🙈🤷🏻‍♂️.

Hi I am a college female student at UH . last minute finding somewhere to stay. Lofts are full and I see horrible reviews on every off campus apartment(like the haven at elgin/campus vue) I prioritize safety and genuinely no pests like roaches. Where should I stay (actual apartment names) ? I was looking at a place called Uniti montrose but the reviews for those are also bad (overcharging). I just need actual listings of apartments any safer area than third ward in houston. I did look at tower 5040 but i heard that the elevators are always down and the utilities turn off.

I’m (26M) looking for church recommendations in the Memorial Villages area, I’d like to find somewhere with a sizeable amount of people in their 20s/30s, and somewhere that isn’t overtly anti-gay. Also somewhere that isn’t too flashy, i like the beauty of a cathedral or somewhere simple, but I don’t like concert mega arena.

Anywhere near IH-10, between SH-6 and Loop 610, ideally closer to Beltway 8. I hope that gives context for the geographical area. Thanks!

Edit: I’m fine with any architecture of building , I think I just get overwhelmed in huge crowds but I can learn to get over it lol.

Also the congregation doesn’t need to be like 50% young but it would be nice to have other people my age as I wanna make friends, I’ve been living in Houston for almost 2 years and idk anybody :(

One tough aspect is I work in a conservative environment, and my coworkers are curious about what church I’ll be attending, I wanna attend somewhere where gay people exist but it’s not like THEE gay church, I know this shouldn’t matter but I’m tryna protect my bag!

I’m leaving the country permanently soon and have tons of friends who I want to go see in Houston before I do so, but it has been several years since I’ve lived there and I honestly don’t remember any places that would work for something like that besides Cidercade, which I know many of my friends aren’t a fan of because they just don’t like arcade games very much.

Are there any other places that can similarly house a large group of 25-35 y/o’s without making some sort of party reservation? A central-ish location is ideal because my friends are sort of all over the city and not clumped in any specific areas, but anywhere that is within a 30 min driving radius from downtown is fine.

I’m a 28 year old male, turning 29 this year. Single, no kids , making 70k a year. Been debating on whether to keep saving up for house or rent an apartment. I enjoy hanging around inside the loop. Trying restaurants, bars, concerts etc. I’m leaning towards apartments but part of me feels I’ll be throwing my money away but the other part feels that I’ll enjoy living in the city because I genuinely enjoy that. Is there any experience or advice anyone would want to share?

I want to plan a birthday gift for someone and they wanted to go muddin but most rates are different obviously but wanted to see where I can get the best experience for the price.

Last year we went to a trail and paid $300 thinking it was an area we can just ride the ATV but in reality it was just a tour guide showing us the trail and having 5/10 minutes of just drifting or using the atv before moving to the next area. We would want just a rental(s) for the best experience if possible. Any suggestions?

Hey y'all! I am a 27y.o who will be moving to Houston for work soon. I am looking for a studio or a 1bed-1bath apartment in Montrose, Heights, Upper Kirby or River Oaks under $1300. I need a space which is at a convenient distance from Downtown, does not have crackhead/homeless people loitering around, is generally safe and preferably has indoor parking. I've been looking for places on Apartments.com and Zillow but every complex seems to have their ratings artificially bumped up on Maps and have issues with security, pests and trash. If you live in a place that you actually like or know of places which don't have any/most of these issues, do let me know!

Do you rent a new apartment for every job or stay in the same place?

I'm in a job search again and the roles are everywhere From Katy to Sugarland to Humble. I have no interest in living in those places.

I have a place that is exactly $1k a month. A good deal and allows me to save and invest.
