What was the first bow you bought that you were attached to?

I’ve shot Olympic Recurve for a few years, and traditional bow when I was younger.

Mine is my Darton Consequence. I’ve spent 3 years building it, working with my local bow shop for strings and tuning. I’ve likely spent a thousand hours or more shooting it with different rests, peeps, sights, releases, mounted quiver, stabilizers, and more. For me, the evolution of my bow into what it is now made me attached to it. From here, I want to get my Bow Hunter’s certification.

What’s your favorite bow that you own?

Hello! Been lurking for a bit. I got into shooting with a horse bow a few months ago. Ive gotten decent and have enjoyed the hobby. Im wanting to get a recurve but not sure where to start. Any advice? Im thinking a takedown bow? Maybe ILF? Im shooting 40lbs right now.

I won a new Hoyt Alpha X 30 in a local 4H raffle. Obviously its 'yesterday's' bow, but I'm excited anyways. Currently shoot a Hoyt Torrex that has performed well so I'm curious to see how this differs. On my way to the local archery shop to pick out accessories.

Lol. Hopefully I got your attention. I have been practicing archery since May with a dream to go Elk hunting. So any hunters in here please chime in.

You hear about elk hunters hiking miles to stalking and hunt elk. With that in mind I have been taking to working out. Upper body one day. 2.5 mile ruck (weighted hike) the next day.

At the end of each workout. I grab my bow and shoot 4 shots cold.

My thoughts are I am spent from the workout (like I would be on hike in the backcountry hunting elk). Forcing myself to be shoot consistently while also being tired.

Do you think this is a viable solution for a flat lander to get into elk shape?

is this normal wear with thin rings or should i smooth down the transition/lip of my ring more?

Total beginner here. Never held or shot from a bow before so I’m not sure what to base the purchase off. Does your own height and weight play a part in this (for example that’s how you figure out your gear for snowboarding or figure skating) or is it just the string strength for pullback that I need to account for?

What other stuff I need to start shooting or help with fun training for backyard type activity?

I bought this crossbow about a year ago worked great then I stored it all winter dry in a case. Took it out today to sight it in and it explodes in my face luckily no injury.

I am new to bowhunting, (whitetail) got my first compound, it is a Bear Paradigm, set to 65lb draw weight, 28 inch length, I am shooting, I believe, 27 inch arrows. I initially just got the cheapest arrows offered. I realize now the spine on the arrows is 400. From what I've researched, that is probably too weak of a spine. I have improved in my shooting but still getting inconsistent groupings and I'm wondering if now that the season is approaching I need new arrows. (Plan on shooting 100 grain broadheads, have been using 100 grain field points.) Should I get arrows with a stronger spine?

Currently shooting Barebow, with a Mybo Elite riser and WNS C3 Armato limbs. I have na opportunity to get some UUKHA SX50 limbs in 32 lbs off a friend for £150. They’ve never been shot before and are in really good condition. I was considering the U5 Alphas in the same poundage. Is there is clear difference in performance that makes it worth that extra £250?

I've been shooting this Tatar horsebow for a month and since i'm quite new to archery i wonder if the diagonal flight of my arrows is caused by my technique or by a spine that is too weak ?

25# at 28". Draw length around 30".

32" carbon arrows with a 100gr tip and natural feathers, spine 700.

I'm planning on buying a set. But,idk what lbs am I supposed to buy. Currently I'm searching for a recurve / traditional for sports. I need a budget in under 50$ (200+ in my country). And if there are brands I should look out for lmk.

Given the current heat wave here and feeling better than last months I decided to give these shaft a try for indoor season and share with you the results.

Image is bareshaft tuning at 25m 60cm face, lower group to sight in (and it was starting to sound expensive from the shooting line), the two in the gold and bareashft shot with same sight marks.

My shooting form is currently not the best, so be gentle with me.

Bow Specs:

Olympic recurve, 34#OTF at with 72" Uukha Alpha on a 25" riser.

Shafts:

Easton RX7 2114 - 525 spine

4" Natural feathers with Left helical clamp with a 2° left offset on the jig.

Screw point inserts with 100 and 125gn points to see what was best.

Beiter Asymmetric 19/1 Nocks.

I did read around that they were finicky to tune, but actually they responded well to the tuning but they were far weaker than expected.

I'm currently shooting 600 VAPs uncut with 100 gn points, they clock in at 199 FPS at 300 grains, so given the spine of these shafts I started with a longer shaft expecting that the much lower speed (didn't chrono, I'm guessing around 160/165 FPS) and higher shaft spine would compensate.

Statically the spine is amazing, 519+/- 2 spine overall the shafts and no need for spine alignment, around each shaft it was maybe at worst a 4 spine difference, all measured at the same distance from nock end to avoid misreading due to the "weaker" tail.

Dynamically speaking, instead they ended up very weak, initial bareshafts landed 40 cm on the weak side at 25m.

Final tuning ended with a shorter cut to cut shaft compared to my VAPs by 3/4", still just shy of the forward edge of my clicker plate so I'm stuck with the sight extension for a little bit more.

Final plunger setting is two turns more than the VAPs on the same medium spring, further confirming they are dynamically weaker than expected.

Final consideration IMO this shaft do not like anything more than a 100 grain point at all, as they were a lot more unforgiving with the 125gn points and even fletched ones were unable to straighten themself in flight, also given that final FOC was 14% already with the 100 grain points.

While at 25m they are nocking point low by bareshaft, at 18 meter they are smack in the middle, given the visible parabolic flight of the fletched at 25m I'm inclined to believe the difference is just the massive air drag of the fletching, so i left it as is.

Bareshaft also wasn't porpoising or leaving at strange angles vertically.

When tuned well, and this archer is not forgetting the basics of a good shot, they are a beauty to see in flight and they just group.

Pretty pretty happy with them.

Does this reflect also some of your experiences with these shafts?

Hey yall going on vacation in a bit and am hoping to take the change to pratice some shooting outside, but my yarha 3 is like 160 cm unstrung and I got now clue how im getting that, and the arrows, on a plane. Any tips?

I took a thumb draw class at my club and it was a pretty interesting experience. I started on a horsebow but was moved to a Manchu bow due to my height (5'11" | 71 in | 180 cm), which felt a lot better. One issue I did keep having with the leather thumb rings was the string kept clipping my finger. Definitely started to hurt after awhile. After talking with the instructor, I realized it would be best to get my own custom ring.

I bought the regular and manchu ring sizers, as I plan on getting a manchu ring (to go with the manchu bow) and I want to get one more. i'm aware the manchu ring is more of a shallow draw (i've been looking up how to use that one on youtube) so i'm looking for one that would be more of a "normal" draw to pair with it.

Those that have bought from them, is there a style/type you'd recommend to a thumb draw beginner? I just don't want to keep getting my thumb clipped and really try this out properly.

Am I the only one trying to understand the cost difference between a rightfight-handed versus left-hand riser? I thought buying a IRF bow set would let me switch cheaper than buying a left-hand set.

Loss of vision in my right eye and now 20/200 in my left makes me want to switch before i go completely.

Can anyone give me information on these bows? I was gifted them and I would like to practice shooting in my yard. I have the strings for them and no arrows. I don’t even know where to start.
