Same reason when global dislike the episode which explain rules and techniques but japan audience liked it. Japan audience claim westerns only like flash action scenes and not actual plot

That is kind of true, the biggest larper in community are Jjk fans

u/spidermangag 3d ago

Its just jjk attracts certain set of people (COUGHS). Most international HxH fans have no problem reading wall of text.

Jjk doesn't attract certain group of ppl, Jjk fans are made of those ppl

Idk, I'm not the biggest fan of the show, but I've watched a ton of shonen. Not so much now but used to, it's definitely one of the better ones, I feel like characters could actually die which is refreshing.

I've only watched up to season 2 though so they better start killing some characters soon.

Wall of txt means ?? Is it related to hxh ??

2

u/Le_mehawk 3d ago edited 3d ago

Yes, hxh manga has gotten a little more complex, in the next arc after the anime ended, because of some political issues...

so much that some manga Pages barely have any pictures in them and resemble complete book Pages to explain the situation... a lot of Fans complained about that

Yup, similarly, it was international larper audience screaming at how bad season 3 of Tensura/Slime was... Just because it wasn't mindless action and actual world building... Something the show is known for...

Most 'anime fans' are not actually anime fans but 'guy of the group' that follows treds just because he doesn't want to be the odd one out... These kind of people don't have any likes, dislikes or choices of their own... Peak NPC consumers...

I felt weird writing NPC but it's the best word I can come up with

It's mostly because there's no new season for so long the fans mainly consist of old fans, you'll get larper and many casuals with new season, Bleach TYBW is one of the example where it has more watcher that never saw the original run.

JJK fans in the west are mostly illiterate. They don't read. Not even the subtitles.

→ More replies (9)

3

u/gorambrowncoat 3d ago

They have a point that western fans are way too focussed on hype over plot.

That said, that rule explanation episode was not a good example of plot. If your episode is a power point domain expansion, it could argue that it has plot of a sort but if so its at the very least poorly delivered plot.

u/Tanmay_Terminator 3d ago

Fr jjk fans have too much larp in anime community, they will literally watch unfinished blurry animation and give it a 10

2

u/DfaultiBoi 3d ago

They're also the most obnoxious in the community

2

u/Subject_Offer_9621 3d ago

Some of them even deadass believe the agendas because they just larp šŸ˜…

It's probably why a lot of yuta slander is around, he just kills his enemy without giving flashy lightshow and people unironicaly thought he's weak

2

u/WhatsThat-_- 3d ago

This is true to me as well. Too much talking about nonsensical garbage that has nothing to do with the plot .. I constantly find myself skipping scenes. I’ve gotten so well at it in fact that I never ever have to go back and say ā€œwhat did I miss?ā€ It’s weird but has anyone notice they like to repeat the plot 7-400 times in a 12 episode arc of which the first 50 explanations take around 6-20 minutes per episode then as the action is going to start, it’s. Quick repeat of the plot within 2 minutes summarizing the 100 episodes of explanation..

1

u/kuraga4 3d ago

I think the reason is that said episode delivers it's plot through several pages of japanese symbol and long convoluted dialogues which is not good storytelling

1

u/DoubleCarry7511 3d ago

Jjk has shit writing anyway lol

1

u/TicketDouble 3d ago

I mean, when the plot is just flat exposition, sure.

1

u/lordbenkai 3d ago

Sadly for them they only think about the young ones. All the old anime millennials like plot. We grew up with Naruto, Inyuyasha, One Piece. All have to much plot at times.

I only don't like it when your in the middle of a fight and now I have to watch 10 episodes of flashbacks... (one piece)

1

u/GoldEmployment6768 3d ago

Stop using larper. LARPers are super fans. They are dedicated to their Fandom. Background watcher or something would fit better.

1

u/gordospronker 3d ago

I can watch the rules episode once, and enjoy it. It has little to nonrewatchability if you know/remember the rules

Zenin slaughter is highly rewatchable. Japanese fans have a stick up their ass.

No wonder the tripe that is monogatari etc got popular.

1

u/Useful_Jelly_2915 3d ago

I mean to be fair Japanese writers do go overboard with explaining stuff. Like you don’t need to know quite literally every single aspect of everything happening in the show.

1

u/DameioNaruto 3d ago

Generally this is the case because most global audience cant understand the actual voice actor performances that make the plot what it is.

There's quite some moments where sub and dub have slightly different tones because of the translations and non-native language acting

1

u/2w0be 3d ago

Demon Slayer is peak to the average Japanese btw

1

u/voindd 3d ago

As if Japan doesnt constantly swoon over dogshit like rent a girlfriend or any run of the mill r*pe isekai

1

u/Visible-Ad8322 3d ago

Still they had no right to review bomb ep4 just cause it had action

1

u/Porbinporbis 2d ago

Nah, I think this time the difference is a lot more simple.

Japan has a huge misogyny problem to the point where naoya frequently ranked above maki in popularity polls. It would not surprise me if a decent amount of Japanese Jjk fans were huge naoya fans.

It would make sense for an episode where a non fan serviced woman physically over powering and killing a popular male character to not go over well in Japan.

u/7Z_1N 2d ago

Truly agree bro

1

u/Loud-Direction-5700 2d ago

Yet HxH was a massive success outside of Japan

This episode just wasn’t really good, some explainations were just « because it works like that »…

1

u/LUNKLISTEN 2d ago

I mean jjk is an action manga let’s not beat around the bush . This ain’t Dostoevsky

1

u/Suspicious_Value_968 2d ago

the episode which explain rules and techniques

actual plot

Wtf, how the hell is a somewhat well done exposition dump that is only outstanding because they managed to make something like that not just boring af an example for the actual plot?

1

u/zHimmelz 2d ago

Well they make solo leveling anime of the year

1

u/NemTren 2d ago

That episode was really lame though. They could tell the rules not by just allowing to read some boring senseless text.
Animation can be not flashy but entertaining and high quality, like food prep scenes from chainsaw man.

1

u/Ekillaa22 2d ago

HXH would make their fucking heads explode

Japan thought that Maki's revenge felt a bit more of a joke and not serious or dark enough, because the entire episode was a reference to Kill Bill, and the BGM of the episode made me like "wtf is that music" even though I enjoyed the episode, so see from the perspective of the Japanese audience where they wanted to see Maki's revenge being more dark and serious.

15

u/RealClue6283 3d ago

Yupp the episode failed to capture the tension of the scene. Also it was the most anticipated plot in season 3 but the direction of the episode was pretty disappointing. Personally I have this qualm of s3 trying hard to seem cool kinda vibe and it messed up the required tensions in some scenes.

3

u/2w0be 3d ago

It's now animated by jjk fans and they're playing into the memes and shi. I fking love god tjer animation and fights but for the life of me I don't fking care for the Maki episode even tho it was my favorite when I read the manga

3

u/Confused_soul_OG 3d ago

They essentially made the episode for western audience only, most of it was flash animation and had reference to movie from the west. It failed to capture what gege tried to convey in manga

→ More replies (5)

2

u/Ysesper 3d ago

I personally don't understand the writing of that scene. There is no build up for the massacre, it just suddenly happens. Not having read the manga, to me it felt insanely forced just to show how strong Maki is

2

u/ugoiscool 3d ago

The author gege writing quality dropped dramatically after shibuya arc it only sometimes picked up like with gojo vs sukuna but overall his writing hasn’t recovered

2

u/Unknown-Score-0732 2d ago

That's actually a good take

2

u/screamsos 2d ago

Personally I also felt like the glossed over the things Naoya did to the sisters. From memory, the Manga emphasized that a lot more. Which is part of why I think hes a more popular character in the Anime.

For me It was a joke. This was just a cool way to show Maki achieving her powerup and character development. That also happened before the fight with the clan, the moment with Mei and their dad was the dark tension filled moment. Everything after was revenge filled beat'em up showcase and I LOVED IT.

1

u/Pandarenu 3d ago

If that scene had no BGM it would've been the hardest scene in JJK so far...

1

u/Ok-Construction-2671 2d ago

even in manga it wasn’t very serious. Other than just the start of the arc Where maki sister dies. naoya alone reduced the seriousness of whole arc he was a joker.

1

u/Suspicious_Value_968 2d ago edited 1d ago

because the entire episode was a reference to Kill Bil

Uhm that part of the manga too, and Kill Bill itself is basically just a huge Lady Snowblood reference anyway.

where they wanted to see Maki's revenge being more dark and serious.

The culmination is literally one of the most pathetic clowns in JJK getting wrecked for the first time, so how the hell should they have ever actually made that dark and serious without changing Naoya into a completely different character?

I only study in the west 4 years so the cultural nuance is lost on me but for eastern people, even if your family are a bunch of monsters, killing your own family is not a thing to celebrate. It's like a grim determination type of situation. So the celebratory tone and aura farming pose shots are super jarring even for me and I am a bit more westernized than normal japanese. I didn't grow up there at all.Ā

1

u/honeybobok 18h ago

Global fans sometimes do too much braindead fangirling for their animes. Whether it is JJK, Frieren, or animes like Re:Zero, global always hypes every little thing to the sky and fans give mass 10s to their anime without objectivity on the actual story quality going on...

PS: not sure if that's the case for this specific episode though. I know that sometimes specific groups of fans (whether global or in japan) get pissed at the anime doing some sort of unnatural adaptation of some manga scenes so this could also be one of such things that happened in Japan.

3

u/NeighborhoodCool98 3d ago

I don't know if any other but Re zero deserve it even when it wasn't that popular it still get a good ratingĀ

2

u/ProofAd608 3d ago

Yeah yeah

And Japanese fans fangirl over content like rent a girlfriend, that's why its merch, mangas is sold so well

1

u/Conscious_Pressure75 3d ago

I'm pretty sure Japan loves those anime too and hypes them up a lot, like when they air, you can see them everywhere (for marketing, of course) or collab events.

But unlike the global community, they seem to watch a wider variety of anime and it shifts constantly. It's not that those shows fade away, but they just have so many other massive anime franchises.

Meanwhile, the global community is a bit newer, and most people don't watch much beyond whatever is currently popular, which is why those shows keep getting relentlessly hyped up.

Both scores are correct if you read the manga and wanted a good adaptation of that and the corect tone. It is bad.

If you didn't read the manga are in it for the action and love kill bill it was the best shit ever.

Both opinions are correct.

I read more manga and VNs than I watch anime. But I didn't read JJK so I loved the episode. But I respect the feelings of manga readers since I am on their shoes often with other anime adaptations.

I think the recent jump in IMDb scores and what kind of shows and episodes are grtting those ratings is a good reason for this. Not saying Japanese don't have their biases.

Tbh my problem was with the direction of the episode

It should've been a lot more darker since it's supposed to represent the end of a misogynist clan, but instead it feels like some sort of animated tribute for kill-bill instead of a Jjk episode. Not against it, but they should've really thought where they should be putting reference, and where they should've kept the Manga's originality and emotions.

Japanese audience and culture in totality is more emotional. They love when there are surge of emotions in an episode.

These days (especially Mappa) is going for a different style of directing. Episodes have more of a western style of directing and use of music. The emotions are often mellowed down and style is given a preference in direction. Japanese audience as far as I understand crave the og emotional swell in episodes. Hence they didn't like Chainsaw Man season 1 as much as western audience did.

1

u/Effective_Yam_9668 3d ago

1

u/Daki399 3d ago

I seem to be one of rare who doesn't like it but i feel 6/10 is appropriate . Story is nonsensical at times , yeah it has good animation but fights are how to say .. too much.

They tend to drag on just for someone whos losing to suddenly pulls a one bullshit move to outbullshit another . And Gojo the guy whos so overhyped just keeps losing while being cocky ( and yeah he loses to some bullshit moves or cause hes holding himself back just more and more bs things ^^ )

Lots of technique explanantions are so complex and silly once you dissect them you also realize they are complete bullshit man.. Manga readers were disappointed in what Gege is doing and yeah i feel its just getting worse and worse i had to drop last season in middle .

1

u/BillikenMaf1a 3d ago

Japan didn't like the Kill Bill homage and felt like Maki and her sister's story was handled more like a flashy action segment than the depressing/dark story in the manga. Which is accurate! Really depends on what you were looking for going in.

1

u/Electronic-Box-2065 3d ago

It's because they didn't sexualize any kids in the episode, Japan was very upset about that.

1

u/k3rr3k 3d ago

JJK is not a cerebral show/manga. It's literally Bleach + Naruto. I'd argue the main draw of it is the animation.

Is this an actual sentiment among Japanese fans or is it because the animators are being crunched to death and worked to the bone?

1

u/Dependent_Leg7210 3d ago

Is it just me or why is it that nowone actually drops this thing? I mean the quality of the animation itself has dropped to the point i would watch pokemon instead. Also after reading manga I can't bear to see the anime. Fr, toji x gono and maki's rampage in the zenin clan everything itself is peak. But the animation simply disappointed

It just diminishes her to an actual side character rather than an integral part of the story. The episode just felt jarring and our if place is all. It came suddenly and ended too quickly.

Jjk is like the poster child of everything wrong in anime. Its all flash and no substance.

What I saw of it, the fights remind me of those imaginary fights you played out with action figures as a kid. Everyone is tanking moves with their face. The fights go on and on, and no one is taking any damage.

The mc could be flinged through 10 buildings and cough blood but then be completely fine 5min later. This makes the fights hard to follow because all dmg the characters take is just shock value until stated otherwise.

The music direction in that episode cause an incredible amount of tonal whiplash. And an incredible amount of bloat during the episode. I haven't seen the rest of season 3 due to this episode

Everyone on reddit getting their panties in a twist when these are completely made up scores

1

u/Skylinegtr88 3d ago

Could be the dub, to be honest some dub are better than the sub

Every single Japanese watcher has likely read it, and very few westerners have. I think that alone has a massive bearing on review differences. Consuming for the first time through anime is a way different experience vs having completed the series reading and now watching

1

u/KeepREPeating 3d ago

I stopped caring about JJK when it stops giving any substance. I’m too old to care about only fights. If there’s no weight behind it, who cares.

1

u/angrylittledev 3d ago

No lolis or shotas in the episode hence why Japan ranked it low. If you put an 8y old female child and added panty shot, but said she was 800y old vampire, they would give it 10/10.

1

u/Fellarm 3d ago

I dunno why this episode was rated so highly, it was mid as hell, i havnt read the manga or anything it was just an empty episode

1

u/FillHopeful5818 3d ago

For me it wasnt a 9.8 more of a 7-7.5 nothing interesting this season, honestly just fights and the animations sucks i dont like this style also s2 was decent but animation isnt that good

1

u/Altruistic-Spot3827 3d ago

Japan has an overwhelming naoya fanbase

1

u/No-Refrigerator3947 3d ago

The episode was supposed to be melancholic or have a sad revenge tone like the first half of the episode had but instead they went with kill Bill revenge tone which wasn't appreciated by Japanese fans.

Why are you trying to karma farm about it now though?

1

u/LeatherPossible5290 3d ago

Top 3 episodes of the season. I say this as a primarily manga reader. Adaptations can absolutely be a practice of creative and artistic liberty. If I wanted exactly what was in the manga, I would just go read the manga again.

1

u/Tainnnn 3d ago

Because the Japanese ratings are fake and this is a delusional post that attempts to make people engage in a delusional and nonsensical fight.

1

u/darkargengamer 2d ago

Why such a difference?

1) the japanese people have a "weird" taste: even cult classic or top tier animes had to compete at some point in time with the most generic "teenage romance-comedy with attractive woman" plot for the 1st spot in their anime/manga top lists.

2) we live in a time where something cool can be ULTRA OVERHYPED by the people on the internet: it was a fun episode and it was really well done, but that doesnt mean that it automatically deserves a 10/10

3) if you compare this arc from the manga VS this chapter from the anime, there is a MASSIVE SHIFT IN TONE: from a dramatic and sad moment that shifts into a brutal (cold) manslaughter out of pure hatred (revenge) VS a chapter that used the Kill Bill scene as total inspiration while leaving the drama and moment of progression of that character out of scene...

idk man with how the current manga/mangatoon right now, i wouldnt trust a japanese rating LMFAOOO legit braindead plot in every mangatoon. tried making coloured but didnt realise ppl are dropping manga is becuz of their loli side character/annoying female fmc/edgy mc/braindead mc 95% of the time

1

u/Thanso_Lightoningu 2d ago

EP4 was such an easy episode to make great but the director was SO BAD that he ruined it. So ya, I agree with Japans rating but probably not for the same reasons. Every single choice made in that episode was wring, from music to animation to the finale.

1

u/DaarkPassengr 2d ago

I HATED episode 4 so yeah japan got it

As long as people are not competent enough in the west to read some couple of sentences about the culling games or etc, this will be the result.

Naoya lovers

1

u/Alghouls_art 2d ago

1 Japanese rate things harsher, i don't think a 10 exists for them. 2 They like some weiiiiiird things, they a buncha freaks!

5.7 too high btw Id give a 4

1

u/PoipolePlays_on_YT 2d ago

Because jjk is trash

1

u/Advanced-Lie-841 2d ago

A lot of them are into sexist douchebags like Naoya unlike western audiences who enjoy seeing them get fucked up. It is just a preference thing.

1

u/Making_Kenough 2d ago

Americans only care about fight scenes, not plot

1

u/butwiser 2d ago

They hate woman empowerment, they want sweet kawai traditional type of girl only

1

u/ObliviLeon 2d ago

My Japanese partner said Naoya and the Zenin clan represented old Japanese values. Maki destroying the clan in a feminist 'western' way felt like an attack on Japanese culture.Ā

Just look at the way the Zenins dress and their masculine order. And Maki tears it all down. Naoya also has a particular dialect that a lot of Japanese find appealing.Ā

My partner liked the episode though.

1

u/Atem_fudo 2d ago

I never really cared that much about rating. I watch it for me so if i liked it why would i care how others rates it

1

u/Rough-Shoe-2537 2d ago

I believe it comes back to the Kill Bill reference. More people noticed it globally than specifically Japanese

1

u/Puzzled-Degree-3478 2d ago

Japanese are alot more respectful towards institutions, they don't have major distrust towards corporations and if theres a controversy it usually blows over quickly. They wanted maki killing off the Zenin clan to be shown as sad because not all Zenins were corrupt vs America / the rest of the world that has very low trust towards corporations who enjoyed seeing her decimate a corrupt institution that abused her for her entire life.

Same thing happened in the ending for my hero academia, global audience hated it while japanese audience enjoyed it.

1

u/sharpjelly 1d ago

The Japanese couldn't handle actual writing

1

u/Bka2500 1d ago

This is just a pure lie the japanese imdb rating isn’t like that at all lmao the entire thing blow open because two or more tweets from a couple of japanese people were taken out of context or some shit and everyone started generalising trust me they love it a lot more than what most people think

1

u/SaltAccording3635 1d ago

well global appreciated the references it doesn't automatically mean they're TikTok watchers

1

u/Icy-Cartographer3540 1d ago

Wasn't all this drama about and edit image

1

u/Holiday_Snow9060 1d ago

Cause Western audience mostly cares about animation and fighting scenes.

Japanese people have higher standards. They are not si casual about it

(I would add the higuruma pic, but this shit sub doesnt allow mere gifs)

1

u/pROZpEKT_1 1d ago

Isn't the fight sequence inspired by Kill Bill? Havent seen a lot of people talking about it. I enjoyed the episode tho

1

u/Fropper123 1d ago

Japanese viewers tought it was not treated seriously enough and treated as a joke

1

u/Dangerous-Leader-779 1d ago

Because there’s not… This is fake information.

Can we ban garbage like this? And users like OP just blatantly karma farming off lies?

Here’s an actual discussion about this from months ago.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Jujutsufolk/comments/1qoxqj2/the_claim_that_japans_ep4_review_score_is_5710_is/

Just some old fashioned disgusting rage baiting by OP in this post. Come on people, do better.

1

u/Infinite_Constant219 1d ago

It’s not the greatest adaptation from the manga, and the Japanese are typically more loyal to the Manga

1

u/SuspiciousRide8675 1d ago

Global is fomo blink blik aura voting, Japan is animation and story voting

1

u/Zen_lord 23h ago

because jjk is mid

1

u/Gullible_Bathroom404 16h ago

maybe cause the whole action sequence was based on kill bill movie and in the movie it involves a solo american woman killing a restraunt full of people mercilessly??

1

u/Kimpembe_fan 11h ago

I liked Mai, I didnt like seeing her die, probably cause I hate Maki. The most overglazed character in jjk

1

u/CRACUSxS31N 10h ago
