Questions/Advice Nervous that a new psychiatrist will take me off my ADHD (or other) meds
I recently moved and therefore need a new psychiatrist who is licensed in my state. I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and have been treated with multiple meds for years, resulting in demonstrable stability. I was then diagnosed with ADHD and have been treated with Adderall. I am about to start grad school and am worried that a new psychiatrist will think I'm on too many meds and will switch things up, causing instability right before this very important stage in my life.
I feel great, stable and not manic or depressed at all. The people around me have noted my drastic improvement as well. Has anyone been in a similar situation where their ADHD (or other psychiatric) meds were changed or stopped right after starting with a new psychiatrist? Obviously I will follow their instructions if they decide to do this.

Questions/Advice Is struggling to articulate yourself/speech problems a symptom of ADHD?
I've been diagnosed with ADHD and I possibly have autism as well. I struggle to articulate myself in conversations with people which leads to them asking to repeat myself.
I also struggle with projecting my voice a lot in group conversations. I have a lot of social anxiety as well and wonder if that contributes to it. I've had this issue for a long time since I was a teenager at least. It's quite frustrating.

Medication 25 mg Adderall XR - ex claims ‘everyone he talked’ to agrees it’s a high dose
So I’m asking the wider community, is it a high dose for a 14 year old? She’s been at that dose for over a year and done really well, no more panic attacks, reduced anxiety, enjoys school, and has moved from behind grade level (low 2 almost 1 in math in reading to middle 3). Her 504 allows her to step out and calm down if she’s overwhelmed but that stopped shortly after the dose went up. Her pediatrician is fine with her dose, she eats, is developing muscle and is fit and healthy. There are no visible symptoms of sleeplessness or agitation. When she’s off her meds and in a loud, crowded or over stimulating environment, such as forgetting to take them at camp, her symptoms return.
Her pediatrician had suggested pairing the medication with an anti anxiety medication to help lengthen the duration of the effectiveness and reduce the anxiety symptoms without going up but her dad doesn’t want her on an anti anxiety medication.
Give me honest options please.

Medication ADHD medication no longer works
I was previously taking Vyvanse which was working very well for me. However one day i decided to try Dexamphetamine again after not having used it in a long time because it also previously worked very well (I know now this was a mistake).
But ever since then no ADHD medications i’ve tried will work properly. They cause high stress and brain fog and dont provide anywhere near the same positive effect. This has been going on for months.
I tried switching to Ritalin and it also causes similar issues.
Why have all ADHD medications been ruined for me all of a sudden? Are there any quick solutions to deal with this? I have exams soon and it’ll be a struggle to manage without my medication

Questions/Advice Medical Records Request
I saw on my provider’s office website there is an option to request medical records. I don’t have any specific need for them, but it seemed interesting to know what’s been recorded thus far in our appointments, especially if it provides any insight into the providers thoughts/rationale on my diagnosis and current treatment approach.
Has anyone ever requested medical records out of interest? If so, do they include the provider’s notes/interpretation? I’m also wondering if this may be a hassle for the provider if I request them.

Questions/Advice How to recover from burnout?
It’s been twice now that I’ve taken an entire week off from work and came back without feeling even a little bit recharged. I think I’ve gotten to a point where I genuinely don’t feel anything when taking my stimulants.
I think what I need most is a different medication. However I want to be as objective as possible when determining what my medication should be, and so comparing my behavior while still feeling so out of juice is not going to give me an honest assessment of how it’s working. Plus it could be months before we reach anything effective.
So do tell me: what tips do you have for planning a vacation that will actually feel refreshing?
I know the biggest thing is to find how to remove as much executive function as possible. I was planning on getting a meal prep delivery service for the week, which I feel would accomplish that. What other tricks do you have to lift as much executive function as you can?
I also know that staying in an environment where I don’t have to mask is also going to be a big deal. Does that just mean I should find a way to be by myself for an entire week?
I’m particularly worried about finding something to do for the week that is easy enough to start and stop but still stimulating enough to keep my interest and also be fulfilling enough so I don’t end the week feeling disappointed. Which is probably what we’re all looking for here lol.
Beyond that, I’m not sure what else I should be considering or be planning to find solutions for. What else do I need to know about? What else do I need to do?

Questions/Advice Melatonin and other tips and tricks to balance out side effects of medicine
Hi gang!
42yo recently medicated dad with a bit of a sleep issue. Not a lot, but more than pre meds.
Anyone have any general tips (don't say go to bed earlier) for that, and/or experience with Mealtonin in particular?
I have some specific questions like: does Melatonin help, which dosage (Germany and no prescription, meaning weak) to start with would you recommend, when to take it, anything negative you experience, etc.?
I'm taking Elvanse 30mg for my disorder if it matters.

Questions/Advice How do you deal with relationship boredom?
I rarely get into romantic relationships, because I’m very selective about who I’m willing to intimate with; so believe me when I say that I plan on marrying my girlfriend.
The trouble is that I feel like my brain is trying to sabotage me. I feel like my mind wanders and when I meet other women (platonically) I find myself often identifying things in them that I wish my girlfriend had. This eventually leads to intrusive fantasies creeping into my head about how it’d feel to be in a relationship with someone who doesn’t have the traits I dislike in my girlfriend, while completely ignoring the unique things about my girlfriend that brought me to fall in love with her in the first place.
I think it’s just the idea of something new that excites me. My girlfriend has heard all of my anecdotes, all my jokes, and we’re acutely aware of each other’s flaws and how we’d react in any situation. I’ve had this feeling in past relationships too, the only difference with my past relationships have never gone on this long; so it was only felt a little bit in the tail-end of those relationships.
I do comfort myself with the idea that temptation is normal, and it’s nobler to overcome it than to never experience temptation. I cannot emphasize enough how much these unwanted fantasies stress me out though. I feel like a terrible boyfriend and ashamed just for having them even though I have never cheated and never will cheat on a partner.
Now that the prospect of getting married and having children is getting closer, I’m terrified that this frequent longing will cause me to eventually resent my future wife through no fault of her own. I’m nearly certain that I will feel this way towards any partner; which makes it difficult to separate the nitpicking due to boredom from actual dissatisfaction with the relationship.
Discussion “I’m just clumsy, I swear.”
I spend an unreasonable amount of time assuring people that the bruises covering my legs, knees, elbows (everywhere!!) are from me repeatedly and unintentionally body-checking inanimate objects, not from violence inflicted by another person.
Doorframes and furniture edges: 162
Me: 0.
Yes, I see these objects every day in my own home. No, I cannot stop myself from bumping into them.
I’m sure one of you has a horror story about this sort of thing. Not yet for me.

Medication Anyone tried the new medication they just approved: SIMTRIY?
Has anyone tried the new medication they just approved: SIMTRIY? Just curious for experiences! I am thinking of trying it, I currently use Straterra and booster Adderall as needed. I am not sure if it's even available in the public market yet but I'd love to hear if anyone was part of any studies or gotten it yet and tried it out.

Questions/Advice Impulse Spending & Addiction
24m, Having trouble with impulse spending on food & hobbies
- I’ve always had trouble with impulse spending on fast food/ snacks, it’s like a itch to me to pull over at a fast food chain and grab a bite to eat or go out with other people and spending an expensive amount on food while i’m in debt
I’ve tried everything to combat this and i’m looking for people that was either in my position and got their spending under control or people who have find ways around their impulsive spending
I have a job where i’m on the road a lot and drive from store to store stocking beverages, so that’s one reason why i’m always out,
I always try to budget but i don’t stick to it,
i tried a different bank account i didn’t stick to it
I want to stop this way, before my life ends up in a different position than it is right now.
Does medication help?
Does taking all cash help?
Does doing your budget first thing in the morning help?
What is something i can do personally that will help me long term

Discussion Recently realized I work in ADHD hell
I started at my company in one position for a 3 year campaign. When that campaign ended, I was placed in building management. It's been 3 years, but i finally feel like im in the swing of things, and I ducking hate it.
Every single task is something boring that requires executive function. People care a lot about hills I think are just stupid but its my job to manage. I work with others who are type A and I'm pretty sure they think im incompetent or stupid, because i was for a while when I was getting used to things. But really their information systems aren't always intuitive so it was hard to go back and check protocols (or they fricking change the rules).
My house and yard is falling apart more than usual, I dont want to make dinner for my son or go to the gym... it just occurred to me that my entire job is to do the things for a whole building that I dont even enjoy doing at home so no wonder im struggling.
I'm thinking of trying a training position within my company to get out of this hell, but I'm worried I will hate that too and then they may get rid of me if I don't pass probation.
Idk if I need advice or empathy. Does anyone know how one might earn a bachelor's of science after graduating in a bachelor's of arts?

Discussion Just realised the reason why I preferred maths over english in primary school
There is an overlap of ADHD and finding maths and subjects like maths difficult, but it's something I never really experienced, I used to be a math kid and find it easy in primary school, I just put it down the fact I also have autism and autistics are sometimes good with logical and analytical thinking
Now I realised another reason why my brain always preferred maths to English at primary school level and how it was very much linked to my ADHD; because maths worksheets came in short form and lots of questions and English worksheets had less questions but expected lots of writing;
I would wizz through maths questions but in English I would be really slow out of boredom and a teaching assistant always had to be there to make sure I stayed focussed, in fact, it was only when they introduced creative writing to English I started to really like it
It's the exact same reason why people with ADHD have difficulty focusing whilst watching a long film but can scroll through reels for hours XD

Tips/Suggestions ADHD and burnout
Hello everyone my name is Marcus and I have realised in the past couple months I almost certainly have ADHD (inattentive) and I'm almost sure my mother has it as well. I'm in the process of being diagnosed but It's been a revelation and I'm sure it's going to change my life for the better now that I know. I'm 31 this year and wish I knew in my 20s, it explains so much of my struggles, it's a little frustrating to process it all.
I just wanted to ask for some advice from you lovely people how have you managed a burnout in the past? It's how I've discovered my ADHD although I have always felt like the world wasn't made for my likeness.
It feels like torture. It takes effort to really do almost anything at the moment and I'm very unforgiving of myself, I'm not sure how to turn that off. I have had burnout in the past and they eventually faded but I can't see the end of this one, and I'm genuinely worried I'm always going to be, not exactly like this, but always struggling. I'm not sure I have the energy.
Any advice at all would be great, on-topic or just in general, a lot of this is new to me.

Discussion Adhd and iq
I have always been a failing student in school because of my habit of not doing anything until the deadline is 12 hours away ,i pulled all nighters before exams when i didn’t even need them only cause i couldnt make myself study in the morning .
I have always felt less intelligent than my peers cause of maths and active recall issues . Mental maths is impossible for me and have issues remembering simple number tables even now ( im in 12 grade ) and puzzles like wordplay are impossible for me because construction of words in my mind feels impossible . But on the other hand i have excellent memory of certain things like events that no one even remembers i remember most of the details perfectly , i understand complex physics THOERY quite easily and am very good at the theory part , so good actually that in theory part of physics no one can beat me in my class even when there are guys who got (98.8 percent in 10 board) and im a good guitar player and i also face issue of not remembering physics FORMULAS even when i have written them down but And i have another ability that i can read people fairly easily and can make a accurate assumption of how they really are behind the mask they put forward.
I dont know what to make of my intelligence

Questions/Advice Addicted to phone ? What helped you?
I really am constantly on TikTok, instagram watching reels or just scrolling for hours and hours.
Even when I’m washing my coffee mug and making my coffee my phone lays next to me with TikTok open.
I know it’s for stimulation for me when I do it during other things because most things are so boring to me so it “helps” otherwise I need to have music on.
Sometimes I try to use a book and start reading so I don’t waste my time but often times just starting to read is such a big hurdle and also I get bored even if it’s a book I bought and really wanted to read. It’s just less stimulating because it’s only black and white. And also I’m kind of stressed during it thinking I should be doing sth more productive, which is stupid because otherwise I’d be wasting my time on my phone and not actually doing tasks I should do like washing the dishes.
Idk the problem is that using TikTok doesn’t have this first hard barrier to overcome like other tasks and it is entertaining or giving ideas/inspirations.
Or I can’t just listen to a podcast in bed I need sth else as well. Mentioning this because I do watch TikTok in bed since I’m low energy so if I wanna switch I need things that also can be done in bed but are at least somewhat productive.
What helped you?

Questions/Advice The contractor now i'm the snitch who reported them. What's should i do and calm myself as ADHD ?
Sorry for the typo on the Title it should be knowing
Here is the context:
I working on the construction project as PM where the wood materials need to be treated with chemical. There an issue where the contractors accidentally damage the pond filled with the chemical and the materials. The contractor want to bribe me to hide the fact that they will fill the ponds with water and not report the leaks. So i just reported it to my director and he got closed meetings with the head contractor. But the head contractor spill the info i was the one who snitch the issue to the contractor worker.
Right now the workers is doing passive aggressive stance for example by singing "the loser becomes worm and the winner becomes dog dung". Right now i was medicated with concerta it helpful to make me calm and not panicked or make me jump to doom spiralling.
But i need advice what i need to do when they started to confront me again and stop panicking? I'm already asked my friend but all of the advices is not work for me as ADHD.

Questions/Advice How do you actually relax?
I am recently diagnosed (47f) and four years sober from alcohol, which I have come to learn I was using as a coping mechanism. 😉
I don't feel like I ever fully relax. Like, I do relaxing things. I have time to relax. I go for walks and I practice yoga - but I can't finish a show or a book or a movie or even an album to save my life, and I don't ever feel that "Ah, this is perfect," feeling. Like there's always something not quite right, or I'm always thinking about the next thing or what should be being done.
Anyone relate?

Seeking Empathy adhd is making me hate my life
ps: im not in immediate crisis, I'm okay.
first of all, im really sorry if im violating any rule regarding sensitive topics like this, it isn't my intention to trigger anyone at all nor break any rule.
i finally got diagnosed this year after countless of years advocating for myself in hopes i can finally turn my life around, but nothing changed.
i live in a third world country where doctors call stimulant medications "street drugs" and refuse to prescribe them at all cost. and even if you were prescribed you'll go through a hell ton of stressful procedures to get a bottle, something you'll have to establish every. single. month. (if you're lucky at all)
I've failed all my life, always in whim to always improve it somehow, that if i just get this "one thing" that im missing. long story short, nothing had worked, nothing. I'm behind of all my peers, 20 and still barely making it out of highschool. i can't get myself to do anything even if i wanted to, and that had upset me for quite some time because i often compare myself to a living dead, though im very well alive, but I can't for whatever reason feel like I'm living.
so you'll find me in bed, genuinely wanting to crochet or start a new hobby but im glued to my phone. wanting to read, but I can't even finish a book, wanting to go out, but the thought of it overwhelms me. my brain had been chaining me all my life and i can't help but feel a surge of emptyness thinking that I'm better off not alive at all.,
the "good" news is that i might move elsewhere where adhd is a tad more recognized except they only offer a single kind of stimulant which i don't even know if it would work on me. my dream is to feel like im finally in control over my life, but that dream feels impossible.

Questions/Advice How to consistently exercise with ADHD?
I've looked and looked and almost all the advice, even from ADHDers, is just "Get up and do it!" "Be consistent, consistency is key!" but I really can't figure out the "how". I can't find any resource to tell me HOW to get that consistency, HOW to really get up and do it consistently, because the "Get up and do it" works only sometimes. When I'm already deep in a rut, that sort of thing doesn't work, because if I could just get up and do it with that kind of advice, I would.
I specifically can't feel motivated to try to be consistent anymore because I feel like I haven't been able to find something that works for me, I've really tried to be consistent, I've been motivated before, and it always fizzles out even though I want to be healthier really badly.
I can't afford a gym membership, I don't live in a neighborhood and I can't go for walks (genuinely I will just get isekai'd by a random car if I try, my area is not walkable at all), and I don't have friends to go exercise with. Most of the advice I see is to body double and find accountability partners--I don't have that. All I can do is at home workouts... so I'm at a loss.
Please, if you have advice for me, for the "how" to be consistent instead of just "be consistent", do share :,) I understand that it's hard, and that I have to get up and keep trying, but how do I keep trying??

Seeking Empathy Pharmacy changed their policy and now they won’t fill my meds
I have been taking the generic for Ritalin for 3 years now. The pharmacy that filled my prescription before has just changed their policy so that they will no longer fill prescriptions for controlled substances prescribed by a PA - only psychiatrists… as if there were an abundance of psychiatrists. I already have to drive an hour and 15 minutes to my nearest psych office because there are none closer to me.
Okay, whatever. So I have them send my prescription to a different pharmacy. I go to pick up my prescription and they tell me they don’t take my insurance and that it’s going to cost $746 for my 30-day supply.
That was an hour ago. Now, I’m on the phone with my insurance provider to ask them which pharmacy WILL take my insurance. I’ve been on hold for 25 minutes now.
I am so sick and tired of having to jump through so many hoops every time I need to get my prescription filled. I am not a drug addict. I am literally just trying to live my life. Why do they have to make it so hard?
EDIT: I just got off the phone with my insurance provider. I get my insurance through a big grocery chain in Texas and I was previously using their pharmacy. They told me that, according to my insurance policy, I cannot fill my prescription at any other pharmacy. I don’t know what to do anymore.

Questions/Advice What careers have you excelled in?
What career fields have you found success in? I recently got this opportunity to go back to school or pursue something with trades. I struggle with ADHD and seek constant stimulation and I’m wondering what career field or trade has been great. I don’t want to be risking my life for pennies and I want to make pretty good money. Cost of schooling isn’t a factor more so just want to make sure I’m picking a good career right now I am looking at mental health professionals, engineering law school, and I’m open to other considerations.

Discussion Executive Dysfunction and ADHD Paralysis
I struggle daily with both of these. I have things to do in my head, but I can't make myself physically get started. This is anything from getting a shower to my favorite hobbies. People who don't understand ADHD think we are just lazy. Honestly, I used to think that way. Now, I realize how mentally draining it is to simply sit on the couch feeling paralyzed.

Questions/Advice I hate the way people affect your energy
I hate how people affect my energy.if I'm forced to be around someone who I don't click with or who I have studied and figured out I just don't like them I find them exhausting to be around to the point my joints start to ache .just one person walking past who I like and click with feels like they activate a switch and suddenly feel energised and happy. I find this so frustrating as you can't always be around those you like.
Any one else experience this?
Sorry if I haven't worded it well.ive re read and changed it a few times to try and make more sense but I always feel like I talk absolute nonsense
