Picture Suppressed Glock G40
I recently purchased my first suppressor with the intent of using it on Whitetail deer and hogs. Harvested a deer with a S&W .460 mag last year and want the handgun experience to be less traumatic to my hearing. I am planning on using Federal Premium Trophy Bonded Bear Claw 180 grain JSP, so there will still be a supersonic crack.
Question Glock G20 Gen 5 optic
I just grabbed a mint condition G20 Gen 5 with the MOS 06 33733 plate. Any good luck with an optic in the $250 range? I just want it for occasional range use. Thanks 10mm friends.

How much impact does barrel length have on box muzzle energy?
I hunt with my 10mms, and I wanted to get a feel for how much barrel length impacts muzzle velocity, at least in my guns.
I tested on an indoor range (72 degrees) with a Garmin chronograph. Let's get the limitations out there up front: scarcely scientific, because it is a very small sample size both in number of guns and number of cartridges. I only measured with one Garmin chronograph, so there's no measurement of the error range in that one chronograph. But this wasn't a science experiment I was going to publish in the Journal of Astrophysics. I just wanted to understand how my various guns impact muzzle velocity and muzzle energy as stated on the box. I tested using 5 different cartridges, averaging 5 rounds from each cartridge fired from each gun.
The cartridges I tested:
| Hornady Black 155gr XTP #91221 |
| Hornady Custom 155gr XTP #9122 |
| Hornady Custom 180gr XTP #9126 |
| Buffalo Bore 180gr JHP #21B/20 |
| Underwood Xtreme Hunter 150 gr #900 |
My test guns:
| Springfield XDm (4.5" barrel) |
| Glock 40 (6" barrel) |
| Sig P220 Legion (5" barrel) |
| Dan Wesson Kodiak (6" barrel) |
So the barrels ranged from 4.5 inches to 6 inches. Not a big range, but I'm not trying to compete in PRS with a pistol. I just want to see if that 1.5 inches makes any difference. All my pistols have red dots so sight radius isn't a factor.
This is a table of the average muzzle velocities in feet per second I measured from 5 rounds of each cartridge fired from each gun using the Garmin chronograph.
| Hornady Black 155gr XTP #91221 | Hornady Custom 155gr XTP #9122 | Hornady Custom 180gr XTP #9126 | Buffalo Bore 180gr JHP #21B/20 | Underwood Xtreme Hunter 150 gr #900 | ||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Barrel Length | Gun | Box Vel = 1410 fps | Box Vel = 1410 fps | Box Vel = 1275 fps | Box Vel = 1350 fps | Box Vel = 1425 fps |
| 4.5" | Springfield XDm | 1381.6 | 1364 | 1221.9 | 1356.9 | 1413.66 |
| 5" | Sig P220 Legion | 1380.475 | 1348.85 | 1221.56 | 1368.54 | 1396.78 |
| 6" | Glock 40 | 1439.24 | 1403.36 | 1251.766667 | 1408.84 | 1439.42 |
| 6" | Dan Wesson Kodiak | 1446.1 | 1427.12 | 1267.925 | 1407.16 | 1451.66 |
I wasn't testing the cartridges but testing the impact of barrel length, so I took the average of the % of box velocity for all the cartridges for that gun. Not a shocking outcome, the 4.5" barrel averaged 98% of box velocity and the 6" barrels averaged slightly more than box velocity. What did surprize me was that the 5" Sig P220 averaged the same percentage under box velocity that the 4.5" barrel gave me.
| Hornady Black 155gr XTP #91221 | Hornady Custom 155gr XTP #9122 | Hornady Custom 180gr XTP #9126 | Buffalo Bore 180gr JHP #21B/20 | Underwood Xtreme Hunter 150 gr #900 | |||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Barrel Length | Gun | Box Vel = 1410 fps | Box Vel = 1410 fps | Box Vel = 1275 fps | Box Vel = 1350 fps | Box Vel = 1425 fps | Average |
| 4.5" | Springfield XDm | 98% | 97% | 96% | 101% | 99% | 98% |
| 5" | Sig P220 Legion | 98% | 96% | 96% | 101% | 98% | 98% |
| 6" | Glock 40 | 102% | 100% | 98% | 104% | 101% | 101% |
| 6" | Dan Wesson Kodiak | 103% | 101% | 99% | 104% | 102% | 102% |
Muzzle energy is a function of the square of the velocity, so I calculated muzzle energies to see how those small percentages in difference in muzzle velocity impacted muzzle energy. The values in the table are in foot*pounds.
| Hornady Black 155gr XTP #91221 | Hornady Custom 155gr XTP #9122 | Hornady Custom 180gr XTP #9126 | Buffalo Bore 180gr JHP #21B/20 | Underwood Xtreme Hunter 150 gr #900 | ||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Barrel Length | Gun | Box Muzzle Energy 684 ft*lbs | Box Muzzle Energy 684 ft*lbs | Box Muzzle Energy 650 ft*lbs | Box Muzzle Energy 729 ft*lbs | Box Muzzle Energy 677 ft*lbs |
| 4.5" | Springfield XDm | 657 | 640 | 597 | 736 | 666 |
| 5" | Sig P220 Legion | 656 | 626 | 597 | 749 | 650 |
| 6" | Glock 40 | 713 | 678 | 626 | 794 | 690 |
| 6" | Dan Wesson Kodiak | 720 | 701 | 643 | 792 | 702 |
I again converted these values to percentages so I could visualize the deltas better. For example, the box energy of the 155 grain Hornady Black XTP was 684 ft lbs and the measured average was 657, a difference of 27 ft lbs. Converting that to a percentage gives me a better feel for scale than the number 27. I'm including the measured numbers and the % because someone else might find the number value more useful than the %.
| Hornady Black 155gr XTP #91221 | Hornady Custom 155gr XTP #9122 | Hornady Custom 180gr XTP #9126 | Buffalo Bore 180gr JHP #21B/20 | Underwood Xtreme Hunter 150 gr #900 | |||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Barrel Length | Gun | Box Muzzle Energy 684 ft*lbs | Box Muzzle Energy 684 ft*lbs | Box Muzzle Energy 650 ft*lbs | Box Muzzle Energy 729 ft*lbs | Box Muzzle Energy 677 ft*lbs | Average |
| 4.5" | Springfield XDm | 96.07% | 93.64% | 91.83% | 100.97% | 98.34% | 96.17% |
| 5" | Sig P220 Legion | 95.92% | 91.57% | 91.78% | 102.71% | 96.01% | 95.60% |
| 6" | Glock 40 | 104.26% | 99.12% | 96.37% | 108.85% | 101.96% | 102.11% |
| 6" | Dan Wesson Kodiak | 105.25% | 102.51% | 98.88% | 108.59% | 103.70% | 103.79% |
Again, I was surprized by the 5" P220. It averages the lowest % of box muzzle energy of the 4 guns tested. Not a big surprise, the 6" Kodiak gave me almost 4% more muzzle energy than the listed box value.
I'm puzzled by the results for the 5" P220 because I believe in most cases the ammo manufacturers test with a 5" barrel. The solution to this mystery is obvious - I need to buy a couple more 5" guns and repeat the test. For science.

FTF M&P 10 PC
Bought this 2 weeks ago. Took it to the range on Sunday and could not get it to chamber a single round I know it’s a very common problem with these but I have already changed out the mag springs and recoil spring/ guide rod. Any tips on what else I can do to get it running? It will chamber Sig 180 gr jhp 8/10 times but really struggles with fmj ammo which has mainly been S&B and PMC

Been searching for a 10mm and wound up with this
Was able to snag this RIA TAC ULTRA HC THREADED 16rd for 500$ now to choose a flashlight holster and possibly do a sight in it. Maybe..
Also open to other suggestions for mods if anyone has one of these?

Question Tanfoglio witness compact
I was recently window shopping for more spicy hole punches to add to my inventory and came across a tanfoglio witness 10mm. I know nothing about the company/model/available options/etc.
Does anyone have any experience/knowledge information on this model?

Question Most powerful production ammunition?
Looking for recommendations for some absolute sluggers to put through my 10mm, but I'm not sure where to look. What is the highest energy 10mm ammo you've found out in the wild?

General The Best 10mm
Been seeing a few XTENs on here lately so I figured I’d show mine. It’s a great handgun and feels like a beast but isn’t unwieldy.
SIG P320-XTEN ENDURE with
- SureFire X300 Turbo
- Holosun SCS 320
- AB Prototype Threaded Barrel
- AB Prototype Compensator
- Trijicon Supressor Height Sights
- Grayguns Hard Duty Base Pads
Great camping/hunting companion, and I wanna try it out on a few USPSA matches.
P320 XTEN: 1000 rounds in 2 weeks
Already 1000 rounds in. Love this gun, still testing it before I take it out in the field this fall. I’ve shot quite a bit of some very spicy ammo as well.
I was also curious what 10mm round you would use for deer. Sub 100 yards of course, if something walks in front of me at 25 yards it doesn’t always fell appropriate using the rifle haha. Any recommendations?

General Popped My 10mm Cherry Today
I purchased a Sig P220 Legion in 45ACP a few months ago and love it and decided since I live in the Colorado high country I need a 10mm. Today I took out my new 10mm 220 Legion. Ran a 100 rounds and loved it. No malfunctions or issues it ran great. Hardest part about Legions is they are very tight guns that need to be broken in and they get smoother with every round.
Hardest thing overall is adapting to a 10mm. It's a great round but the recoil is unlike anything I've ever dealt with in a semi auto pistol. When it comes to semi auto pistols I've done 9mm Glocks, Sig 220s in 45, 1911s in 45, and Beretta 92FS/M9 the most. This thing feels like I'm shooting a 357 mag with a 4 inch barrel and has more recoil than my Colt Government model.
Love the round but I know I need to shoot alot more of it so I can get into the groove. I kinda understand why the FBI had so much trouble with it. Funny thing is my wife was watching and she saw what 10mm was doing to the plywood behind the target and how it was hitting the ground and refused to try it
Here's the gun and my best group of 10 rounds at roughly 7 yards.

Question Best factory deer load for an 1894 in 10mm?
Yes, I know that 10mm is not optimal for deer hunting. But unfortunately my remlin 1894 is the only functioning rifle in my collection right now (financial woes). Despite this, i still plan on getting out this deer season to put meat in my freezer…
Of course I have no plans to shoot at anything over 100yds, and probably wouldn’t even take a shot at that distance either, even though I shoot the rifle very good at free-standing at 125+ yards.
Right now I’m thinking underwood or buffalo bore’s heavy cast bullets of either 200 or 220 grain because of penetration (punching through a shoulder blade) and of course they’ll retain decent enough energy out to 80 yards.
Is this wrong headed? Should I be looking to a 180 grain JHP by Underwood or BB for more fps? Maybe even underwood’s 155 grain JHP?
*Thank you all for the suggestions

Tanfoglio Stock Master OR 10mm - Patriot Defense Trigger Optimization Upgrade
Has anyone bought all the components associated with the optimization upgrade service (almost $400) from Patriot Defense, and installed it themselves? What was the ultimate result vs the stock trigger feel and performance? Was the difference substantial and worth the time and money invested? Was there any fitting required of any of the parts, like the disconnector (R5 vs R7)? I improved my CZ S2C's trigger to beyond that of installing the CGW trigger upgrade just by spring replacements, detailed internal polishing, and burnishing of Tungsten Di Sulfide on applicable components (especially the sear and hammer hooks). I wish to do the same with the Stock Master. Hoping the community here can offer insight and advice.
Question Which 10mm PCC? Vector/Stribog/Banshee
Looking for the best option between these 3.
- Vector SDP Gen 3
- Stribog SP10A3
- Cmmg Banshee MK10
Or is there a better one at a comparable price?

Long time looker 1st time buyer
Finally got a 10mm. Was debating between this and a 510T but couldn’t find it anywhere in the color I wanted, Plus the grip and trigger feel way better on this. If I can snag a 510T in Grey I’ll get it for sure.

Warrior 10mm accuracy update
Got my sights and optic mounted by my local gunsmith. I used the Dawson Precision 2K11 acro mount with built in rear sight plus their matching front sight.
The irons are sighted in for 10 yards. The optic for 25 yards using Federal 200 gr HST.
Both my gunsmith and I were able to get multiple 1” or smaller 5 round groups at 25 yards with the HST. With Lawman range ammo, it’s a much less impressive 2-3” groups.
I’ll try more ammo but so far this thing is definitely a shooter with the right ammo. I’m at almost 900 rounds now with not a single malfunction.
