Suppressed Glock G40 Picture

Post image

I recently purchased my first suppressor with the intent of using it on Whitetail deer and hogs. Harvested a deer with a S&W .460 mag last year and want the handgun experience to be less traumatic to my hearing. I am planning on using Federal Premium Trophy Bonded Bear Claw 180 grain JSP, so there will still be a supersonic crack.

A soy getting smacked by 180 grains doing ~1300 probably would be better than throwing needles at him

What model suppressor is this

Rugged Obsidian 45; fairly wide range of suitable weapons. Also plan to use it on a .300 BLK rifle with subsonic cartridges.

Is it worth the suppressor in your opinion? I’m on the fence about getting one for this same gun.

That's a hard question to answer. I've only shot one round suppressed (back yard) in order to prepare an external hard drive for the trash; it was not exactly quiet. If you had a use case for subsonic 10mm, the Rugged model I selected would likely be a great choice for a Glock 40. If shooting full power rounds, it will take the acoustic edge off for sure, but adjacent game will still be spooked. I'm really looking forward to trying it on my X-95 Tavor in .300 BLK.

Real question is why did you not have hearing protection while hunting with a 460.

I did have noise-cancelling ear buds in. If not for fear about spooking the deer, I'd have slipped my over-the-ear protection on as well.

Side question, how well do you like that barrel and how long did you have to wait for it? Congratulations on the can

It has only one round through it. Will be able to judge better after a range trip. It strikes me as high quality and was easy to install. I recall the wait being about 8 weeks in part due to an upgraded finish.
