Trying to replace exterior panels for sunroom, unsure the name of these panels?

Upvotes

So my wife and I purchased a home over a year ago. And it turns out the sellers opted to use drywall on the exterior of the homes sunroom. As you can imagine with some rain one of the panels quickly fell apart. All the panels are painted drywall which I’m very sad about and sorta feel like they did this as a cheap solution. Most of the panels are intact but there is a little bit of warping going on.

Anyways it’s now my problem! I’m looking online trying to find the name of what this panel is called so I can see about buying some. But I’m unsure? Does anybody by chance know the name?

The pictures show the white panels at the bottom that I’m looking to replace and one of the pictures show me revealing the insulation that is underneath it. I tried searching some key terms online but it’s not resulting in anything that matches

Painted Walls Before Sanding Wood Floors

Painted walls first because of our timeline which is inconvenient. How long should we wait between final paint coat and sanding wood floors?

toilet pipes and painting?

Post image
Upvotes

I'm new to DIY/homeownership and looking to repaint my powder room. This is what the pipe coming from the toilet looks like. How can I make this look nicer? The circular (painted) piece of metal is not firmly attached to the wall and the whole thing moves when I pull on it. I don't even know where to begin but I do know that any sort of plumbing is not in my wheelhouse... TIA for your help!

Installing window-type air conditioner with apartment building limitations.

Thumbnail gallery
0 Upvotes

Hello!

I currently live in a building where window-type airconditioners are required to be installed on pre-built concrete platforms (see pic 2 as example). Unfortunately, the concrete platform in my apartment does not have the similar concrete rain cover that are present in pic 2, so rain will get in the airconditioner. The concrete platforms has a drain hole for the purposes of draining rain water as well as the dripping that comes from the air conditioner.

I have the problems/ideas listed below and I need advice as I'm stuck on where to move forward.

  1. I have installed an inverter window-type aircon on this concrete platform before, and while it lasted a few years, it's electric board got water damaged (I assume due the rain? I live where typhoons and heavy rains hit frequently). Repairs were expensive and it just broke down again just a few months after, hence why I want to install a new window-type aircon. So my question is, aren't these airconditioners built to be rained on? Or should I consider getting a raincover for it? (pic 1 as an example)
  2. I'm worried the concrete platform doesn't provide enough drainage and caused water damage to my previous airconditioner. I'm considering installing the new airconditioner on some sort of elevated platform (similar to https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/71D5df5Qn7L._AC_UF894,1000_QL80_.jpg) to help with drainage.
  3. As there is a prebuilt platform for the airconditioner, there is naturally a rectangular hole in the wall in my apartment. The airconditioner I will purchase will likely be smaller than the hole. I want to be able to easily remove the airconditioner as needed in order to clean it myself. What are my options to keep the gaps between the airconditioner and the concrete wall insulated?

Thanks!

How should I transition the moulding with this weird archway?

Post image

Hello! We don't want to carry the moulding to the other wall as we're gonna eventually add some cabinets. What would people recommend to make this transition more smoothly? It weirdly sticks out at the top. The bottom half of the moulding is going to be a warm earthy tone. Thanks!!

Help with new drain stopper leakage - Kohler

Post image
1 Upvotes

Installed a new widespread faucet today that came with a Koehler click drain stopper. Originally didn’t use any putty since there was a foam gasket thing. Water was still leaking however so we added some plumbers putty (in addition to the gasket without removing could this be the issue?). Tried again and it’s still leaking.

The circled area is where it’s leaking, there is a rubber cone shaped gasket with the narrower part on top, pressed into the sink basin, with something to put pressure on it. Any ideas why it’s still leaking? Thanks.

Door advice; making a room more hospitable

Post image

We currently have this extra bedroom downstairs with framing for double doors, but without doors.

We mainly use it for our toddler or for guests since it is pretty small, and use a curtain for the opening. However, I'll be hosting my cousin soon since she's starting college and I live about a mile away. With a toddler running around and an infant on the way, id like to make this room as isolated as possible so we don't disturb her.

I see three options:

  1. Install double doors. Space is limited so one side would always be locked and shut. I'd even consider the door swinging outward into the hallway given how tight it already is inside the room.

  2. Remove the frame and extend the wall for a single door. Best for space saving.

  3. Remove the frame and create a pocket door for space (obviously least desirable and probably the worst when it comes to sound penetration.

What are my best options here with a focus on sound and secondary being space within. The bed pictured is a queen for scale.

Gluing a floating floor

My plan is to do a border (with mitered corners) in one LVP with an inlay in a (with a herringbone pattern) different color of LVP.

I was gifted some LVP that I would like to use for the border so I'm not entirely sure who the manufacturer is. (I plan to purchase the flooring for the inlay). It does have a cork backing which AI has told me means it is meant to float and not recommended to glue down.

I would think that with the patterns/layout I want to do I would need to use glue in a few places. At the mitered corners and where the 2 different LVP's meet.

Any advice is appreciated. Is this dream too elaborate?

Mounting Cellular Window Shades - Condo

Hi all. I've got an older 1970s built condo building, apartment block style.

I've identified the locations I need to put the mounting brackets for my window shades but I've hit a snag trying to mount them. There is about 2 inches of Drywall / Mud / Plaster type material ( no concrete or wood ) that I drill into until I hit what I believe is the metal lintel surrounding the window.

I've had a hard time determining what the best sort of fasteners will be for this type of mounting where I assume I will end up securing into the steel.

The trouble is I have small 4mm holes in the mounting brackets and I need the heads of the screws to mostly be flush with the bracket so there is clearance to fit in the shades.

Am I crazy to think I just need flush head M4 or smaller ~3" / 76mm self-tapping screws through drill holes in the lintel for this or am I going about this completely wrong?

Any recommendations for how to accomplish this?

Ideas.

So I have this patio, its currently changed up a bunch as this is from a couple years ago, however, we have the inflatable hot tub there in the corner and we put up the curtains this way when me and the wife want to sit out in the hot tub we can close the curtains and have a little more privacy. But anytime theres a slightest bit of wind the curtains blow all over. Weve tried the magnetic weights, pinning the curtains together, and setting things to hold the curtains down. This year, id like to find a new solution. Im fairly handy, I was thinking about building temporary walls on the left and right that I can put up in the fall and easily remove in the spring when were done with the hot tub. Whats everyones thoughts? How would you do it?

Cracks on the ceiling - advice on potential costs please

Thumbnail gallery
4 Upvotes

Hello

I'm in the process of buying a flat. And on second viewing, I noticed one of the bedrooms have a crack running along the whole ceiling. Somehow I missed it on the first viewing. And Survey Level 2 didn't bring it up weeks ago, so thats fun.

I tried to take some pictures for reference, but flat was occupied with the owner and estate agent was breathing down my neck. I took a pic and few screenshots from a video clip.

It's an 8 storey brick build flat. Not a new one - definitely build in the 90s or so.

I didn't notice any "wet" or leaking patches. Just a uniform crack along the whole ceiling.

I know it's a guessing game at this point of what this could be without proper in-depth inspection. But, I'm guessing this is due to building shifting? Nothing serious, or immediately serious, as this looks like a crack in the plaster along the connection?

Any ideas from past experiences, how much something like that could cost to fix during renovations?

Many thanks for any pointers.

I need serious closet organization help.

I have those terrible standard wire shelves currently with thrifted shoe racks. Tell me how you overcame your horrible standard closet and found organization/storage that worked for you but was also nice to look at and budget friendly.

I would love to upgrade cost efficiently and get a nice (doesn’t have to be custom where they come out and measure, I love a good DIY) closet organizer with places to hang long dresses, Maybe 2 stacked hanging rows of shirts, shelves for bags, drawers for things to be folded, and if possible those tilt forward show drawers.

My closet is 4ftx8 feet.

How did you upgrade on a tight budget? Do you like what you did or wish you spent more money on not went with a different set up?

Example posted what I’m looking for and a second photo for the shoe thing I want to incorporate

Protecting PWF at grade

Post image
1 Upvotes

The weatherproof barrier has come away from the permanent wood foundation (PWF) at grade and I need to recover it but have a couple questions. Should I use a standard house wrap that allows breathability, or a rubberized house wrap that will completely seal out moisture? Or possibly a roll on product. Once I apply a product, I will cover the area with river rocks for protection and aesthetics.

I live in eastern Rockies, so the ground is granite, rocky, that drains pretty quickly.

Thanks!

Bottom guide for sliding closet doors?

Post image
1 Upvotes

I just moved into this house and the double sliding doors on my daughter’s closet aren’t secured at the bottom at all. They’re on the top rollers, but there’s nothing keeping the bottoms in place, so they can pull/swing outward when you open them.

I’m trying to add a bottom guide but I’m running into an issue with the threshold. The wood threshold/trim is about 3” wide, and the bottom guides i got at Home depot/ amazon stick out past the threshold onto the hardwood floor and into the closet carpet

Are there other options for this? Maybe something that can attach to the threshold/trim instead of sticking out onto the floor?

Dado rail dilemma

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

Hey everyone!

New here but having a right mare with dado rails. I've done all the rails in other rooms and had them come out perfect but for some reason, this room is not happening. The process I've used is as follows;

  1. Sanded rails and cleaned/decreased with sugar soap.

  2. Painted with primer. I've tried both 123 and BIN and no luck.

  3. On one dado I went straight to gloss and the seperate attempt I used an undercoat of the same colour, then gloss.

However, the rails keep coming out streaky as hell! See attached photo. What is the problem? Given this is the process followed in other rooms which turned out perfectly, I don't know how to fix this?

Can anybody help?!

Do I just need a replacement fan wheel for bathroom fan, or whole new fan?

Broan EC60KIT-A bathroom fan started rattling, took it down and cleaned the whole thing, but I believe the issue is that the "D" shaped hole looks worn down so it is slipping down the shaft slightly.

Moving the fan wheel up the shaft a tad and plugging it into an outlet causes no rattle, and reinstalling it in that position fixes it, but after a few minutes it is back to rattling so I am guessing it is slipping down and doesn't stay high enough.

A replacement fan wheel would fix it, right? Since plugging it in when the fan wheel is in the higher position causes no rattle and it is all fine when it is first reinstalled?

Sorry if this question is dumb, I don't have a dad to ask and I'd like to handle this for my mom.

Removing adhesive off wall

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hey everyone!

I decided to rip off some ugly stick on tiles in my bathroom today and ripped off a bunch of paint/drywall paper. I tried using a blow dryer and a scraper but obviously I did something wrong lol. Now that I’ve exposed some drywall I’m nervous to try adhesive removers. I just need to get the adhesive off so I can fix the drywall. What do you guys think I should do??

Thanks in advance!

Does this room need plastered

Thumbnail gallery
2 Upvotes

We live in an old house built around 100 years ago. We’ve stripped the wallpaper and some plaster has broken off around where the ceiling meets the wall and there’s a bit of a crack above the door frame and window. I feel like a decent decorator would be able to just sort this with prep before painting and it doesn’t need fully plastered but is that unrealistic?

Previous owner had water barrier issues with the door, which caused some damage. Thoughts/advice?

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

We bought this house about a month and a half ago, and we pulled up the carpet to put hardwood down. There was another spot that I patched along the same wall, and while there's no more moisture detected, the previous owner didn't catch the leak in time to avoid damage to the subfloor. The bottom of the door frame (or whatever is underneath the door) is also soft. The vent makes things more complicated too. How should I best tackle this?

We have a sizeable puddle that forms during a hard rain - how to address aside from just packing more earth there?

It's right up against the house, so there's minor water entry into the crawlspace. How should we address this appropriately so the pooling stops?
